swimmer Posted July 31, 2016 at 01:50 AM Posted July 31, 2016 at 01:50 AM Hey guys!I am a college student studying International Affairs and French with a certificate in Human Rights. In the next couple of years, I am looking to study abroad to try and become as fluent as possible in french (right now, its not the greatest!). I was wondering if people could tell me about their experiences if they decided to study abroad. It doesn't have to be in a french speaking country, I'm just looking for what type of programs you went through and how much you learned from it and how it impacted you. At the college I am attending, there are many programs in France, but I think I am more interested in going to Canada. Again, any comments or experiences about your study would be a helpful insight. Thanks!-Megan Quote
Alex_Incognito Posted August 4, 2016 at 12:31 AM Posted August 4, 2016 at 12:31 AM Believe it or not, I am an expert for this. I'm a French teacher who has taught in both high schools and university. As much as I love Quebec, I don't suggest you study there as it's too easy to slip into english. Many people speak it fluently. To visit, it's wonderful. But not to learn French. I suggest whole heartedly l'Institut de Touraine in Tours, France. They're home of the clearest French, you can have a homestay, and I promise you your French will be better. I studied there in university and I also have gone there as a teacher for teacher training. They also offer excursions around France, especially the Loire Valley where Tours is located. Please feel free to PM me any question you may have. Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990
lyn Posted August 6, 2016 at 04:07 AM Posted August 6, 2016 at 04:07 AM Random, but I totally agree about Canada after spending a couple days here in Montreal..!! I'd really hoped to practice my French but every time people sense an accent or weird grammar they switch straight into English I had a much more educational time in France, where there was no choice but to just ask to encore une fois for everything and parler plus lentement. Really helped my french! Quote Philadelphia, PA, Sept 5 2008.New York, NY, Sept 16 2008, Madison-Freaking-Square Garden.
