René-Charles appreciation thread

Bumping this up given conversation in other threads. It's the interview RC did with Brendan Kelly at Montreal Gazette after his short-lived SoundCloud chart topper phase

Amusing reading it a few years later: https://montrealgaze...4d5e4cce16/amp/

"Of course, Angélil could have used some of Dion's music-biz contacts to get his songs out there, he said, but decided not to on principle.

"That's way too easy," he said. "My mom's the greatest singer of all time and she's got all these outlets. I could have been like, 'Hey mom, I'm kind of into this music stuff, let's do something about it.' But I wanted to prove to myself that I'm able to do it. Not just because my mom is who my mom is. At the end of the day, that's what matters to me the most: to make a name for myself.""

I don't think I've read this before. Funny. Well, the desire to "make a name for myself" is laudable, but... A rapped autobiography in which someone like the heir to a Quebec royal family recounts the miseries of growing up in the conditions of the world's financial elite, "I've been living the high life, but it comes with a high price"? That's not "cultural appropriation" by any chance? ;) I don't know about the evolution of rap, but it rather makes me laugh. Plus the artistic motivation: to prove random guys on the Internet who bash him wrong...

But he is explained by the fact that he was really very young at the time.

Maybe he has grown up enough and built his own individuality strong enough that he is no longer afraid to work alongside his mother?

Many years ago, when Fabian Matus became the manager of his mother, the legendary Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, he was asked if he was bothered by such a life in her shadow. He replied: "Living in Mercedes' shadow? But that's impossible. She will always pull you out into the sun."

Yeah, I'd give him a pass on that, it was nearly 6 years ago at this point. One would hope he's matured since then. Still, I applaud the hustle, and he seemed pretty level-headed for a 17-yr-old who grew up not wanting for anything.

I never listened to any of the stuff he recorded, just couldn't really bring myself to, anticipating cringe... He did get some press coverage at the time, owing to the novelty of it all. But that quickly faded, and perhaps he had a bit of a reckoning, or perhaps he was attuned to the "nepo baby" discourse over the past few years.

In any case, he has kept a low profile on social media since, and we don't really know what he's up to other than the occasional poker tournament/ picture. So who knows, he may or may not have the skills, but theoretically, one would think he'd be in good position to get into the family business and would have his mom's trust.

I hope he does. And I hope he cleans house, if Celine does indeed make a comeback. And I’m saying that knowing that he may well have no expertise in this spot. At this point, I don’t think he could do any worse than what we had after Rene and Aldo. At least RC, could bring a fresh approach to the situation. RC if you are looking at the forum, first order of business.. FIRE whoever runs Celine’s social media pages, my cat could do a better job.

Pretty sure Sony runs the social media pages and not even employed by Celine. When she did the interview with Julie Snyder wile pregnant with the twins she talked about how Sony started those accounts. I have a feeling that has never changed and Sony runs them and she either asks them to post something on her behalf or they ask her for something to post on an anniversary or holiday.

Once she started to deal with the neurological problems and figuring out what was happening I feel she stepped away from giving Sony anything to post and was focusing on her health. Now if RC took over as manager he could engage with Sony more so the accounts posted more often and with better content. Not sure if Sony would give them up or not if they do control them.

I’m sure if that’s the case… Sony only took over because Celine didn’t have a person designated to run her social media accounts. With her being one of their artists I’m sure they wanted it to at least be ran in someway shape or form. If a new manager comes to the table and request to run Celine social media accounts I’m sure Sony will be willing to let that happen as long as content is posted. There are many artists under major record labels that run their own account.

Says video unavailable, what is it?

It plays if click on it will take you to Youtube, it is titled "Tragic Details About Celine Dion's Oldest Son Rene-Charles". Basically video to get clicks about the 'hard life' of RC. Like losing dad and mom getting sick.

Random, but I was just looking at the new pope’s Twitter, on its first day of action, and looking at who else among my mutuals also followed him. Noticed RC is among them.

So I’m curious - clearly RC hasn’t been posting on social media for a few years now. Do we know what he’s been up to? I’ve seen rumblings that he’s working with mom in some capacity, but do we know more than that? Did he ever finish college?

Part of me does wonder if he’s engaged to his current girlfriend… when she was seen in London with Celine if you look closely she seems to wearing an engagement ring? Part of me wonders if the whole rumored makeup trip while she was in London was actually for his girlfriend maybe because it was odd that she was with Celine yet none of Celine’s children were seen with her there….

We are just kept in the dark when it comes anything related to Celine. We used to watch him grow up basically every step of the way and just as we know nothing about Celine anymore we don't know anything about him either. It also seems that she is speaking English with the twins rather than French anymore...

It was clearly Renè that was pushing for her to be a more “open book”… which she still claims to be but isn’t. That’s fine if it’s her decision but don’t pretend to be that if you aren’t.

I remember the documentary “Celine: 3 boys and a new show” and it was clear that was Renè was the one behind that. Sadly since he passed, the open book shut and has collected dust.

I was surprised how she revived that phrase 'open book' so heavily during the documentary promo. I don't recall her having used it for many years, but maybe I'm wrong.

It's hard to be an open book when you don't do interviews or post anything to social media. Likewise we know she really cares about her fans and never wants to disappoint them, so I feel like if it were up to her she'd actually share some of the stuff trapped in the vaults. But it must not be up to her.

It's also true that it's normal for Celine to isolate herself — she doesn't want people to see her like this. Maybe that's why she hasn't been so open, because she doesn't want to interact much with her previous world as a singer, since it reminds her of when she was well, and now she can't sing.

Anyway, it's really good that her son is her new manager, if that's the case. He's a young guy, up to date and in the loop — he can bring fresh ideas!

I do wonder about that. Is it painful for her to reflect on the past or watch videos of herself performing?

In her documentary, it did seem rather painful. But she hadn't had a diagnosis for most of the filming time if I recall right, and her pain of all kinds was intense. You're right, at least her non social media team seem competent and she trusts/likes them.

In my opinion, I do believe it’s very likely that reflecting on the past or watching videos of herself performing is painful for her. You can see it in the documentary when she cries and asks herself who Celine Dion is. She may be struggling with depression because of all this, or anxiety from seeing how worried her children are about her. Let's remember that she said her children were afraid of losing their mother. They already lost their father at a very young age.

I believe her mood goes through highs and lows. At some moments in the documentary, she seems to have the vibrant spirit she’s known for, and at others, she appears very sad. At some point in her life, she will overcome all of this and accept herself as she is. But for now, it seems she hasn’t reached that point. She appears to feel incapable of singing, and it clearly hurts her, as shown in the documentary, that she can’t give her fans the kind of performance she always has.

Her son accompanying her wherever she goes might help her feel more at ease, safer, and supported. René-Charles acts like Angélil, constantly taking care of Celine. On this forum thread, some have said that ever since René Angélil passed away, Celine hasn’t been as open. I think it all stems from her illness. Just notice how, in the documentary, she scolds one of her sons for pulling out coconut hair to record a video to cheer up their butler. What other celebrity would show something like that publicly? Most would hide it to make their children appear perfect. But Celine tells it like it is.

The fact that she’s not very open on social media might be because she doesn’t want people to see her as sick, and she made the effort to film the documentary out of love for her dear fans—fans she has even called friends at times. I truly believe that all of Celine Dion’s fans and her family are one big family—her second family.

That her son René is now her new manager or the head of her team is a good thing. If one day Celine overcomes all this and René-Charles is leading the way, maybe we’ll even see Celine recording TikToks, and so on. You all know that Celine and technology don’t get along very well. She doesn’t like it much. Maybe no one has ever taught her how to use it, and she possibly doesn’t know how to do things on a computer or even how to record a TikTok video.

Her son could teach her, and then Celine could record things for her fans on her own, without depending on a team or anyone else.

Lol, how can you all believe that he is her manager and the head of her team. He has no experience whatsoever. We know who her managers are, she revealed it last year. Stop spreading false information.

This is a longer interview with RC:

https://www.poker.org/latest-news/dream-come-true-superstars-son-runs-deep-in-the-wsop-main-event-a9JL82q9KCsj/

He says he's working for his mom when she's traveling (as a personal assistant, sounds like, though he doesn't use the word):

"I work for my mom as kind of a right-hand man on by her side with whatever she needs, especially when we're touring or out of the the city."

And is this “touring” in the room with us now RC?
