One of the best interview i have seen, because the host was very sympathic towards Celine, and Celine needs that to do a good interview. A lot of things , we have heard but it seems so sincere...The love for her mother, her determination, her humbleness are there and she did not change...it is fantastic. A lot of things , we have heard but it seems so sincere...The love for her mother, her determination, her humbleness are there and she did not change...it is fantastic. It's true that there are lots of things about her that haven't changed . . . but what struck me about this interview were the things that are SO different from the way she talks now: Staring at 3:45: "I've done this career since I was very little - [with the dream of] being known all around the world . . .I want to be known all around the world. I want to sing on stages all around the world. . . [then something about all the television shows, all the radio shows, the front pages of all the newspapers -- I think she was saying she wants all those things.]." Then she says, around 4:35 - "I remember very well my first gold record. I was the happiest girl in the world. Then I wanted a platinum record. And then I had a platinum record, and I wanted a trophy (award?). And then I had an award . . You always want more." I cannot imagine her saying anything like this nowadays -- in fact, I think she'd probably deny ever having felt this way. She's always saying how she doesn't care about gold records, she never did this this for the awards, she sings b/c it's a way to express herself, etc. And that's all probably true now, but I honestly think she may have forgotten how she felt when she was young and very ambitious, before she had children and before she had her worldwide success. It's a part of her that I think is very much overlooked -- people always talk about Rene's ambition, but when you look at these early interviews, you see that she was just as ambitious, if not more so. Jim Steinman once said that Celine is "incredibly driven but focused and in a sweet way. She knows just what she wants..." http://www.jimsteinman.com/wplj.htm I think that's a really good description, but not something that's recognized very much. I mean, her sweetness is always recognized, but the side that's driven - not so much. 5 Quote
chocolatechip15 Posted March 12, 2017 at 03:03 AM Posted March 12, 2017 at 03:03 AM (edited) Also, it was adorable to see her fangirling about David Foster at this point in her career. I love Celine and David Foster - there is so much mutual respect and affection in that relationship. And interesting to hear her mention Andy Goldmark. She said nothing other than that he also worked with the Pointer Sisters. I always wondered what happened there. . she worked with three producers on Unison -- obviously she ended up with a long relationship with David Foster. And she did several other songs with Christopher Neil, and he was often quoted talking about how amazing she was. But there was never anything else with Andy Goldmark beyond those couple of songs on Unison. I wonder if recording with him wasn't a great experience for her. I guess that younger , she was not as aware of that. Time have changed now, partly because of Celine. The catholic education and all that. That's why i find it great, because we see the true Celine before someone told her what to say. 1 Quote Plus qu'ailleurs , but now Si c'était à refaire , i still love tant de temps....

I'm glad she performed this beautiful song at least once on TV! Plus, it's interesting that she was still talking about an upcoming album in German during her short promotional trip to France in 1987. I wonder what happened with that project... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yzTX5zVqZY 1 Quote Tournée Européenne in Paris (December 1, 2013)Céline Dion Live 2016 in Antwerp (June 20, 2016)Céline Dion Live 2017 in Birmingham (July 27, 2017)

Too bad this is the only performance that we have. The song definitely deserved more attention. Also the scenery of this video does not match the song at all. The entire thing seems so old and awkward. 1 Quote

Daysleeper Posted March 12, 2017 at 06:07 PM Posted March 12, 2017 at 06:07 PM By the way, does anybody know why Celine the songs Je Ne Veux Pas, Comment T'aimer, La Religieuse, Billy and En Amour as singles (or B-sides) in France back in 1987 instead of adding them to the French re-release of 'Incognito'? "Billy" and "En amour" were released in 1986 and recorded before her hiatus in 1986. Probably they intended to release them on some new album, but as she took a break, they released them on single in France, while in Canada they released a best of "Les chansons en or" with "Fais ce que tu voudras". They were maybe even recorded in the same time as the album "C'est pour toi". We can't be sure of it. On the other hand, "Je ne veux pas" and "La religieuse" were recorded in France in order to replace two songs on Incognito album (Incognito and Lolita) so that the new album could suit the French market. I read that in "Ma vie, mon rêve" biography. Obviously the plans were changed. The release of "Incognito" wasn't sure, so in the end they released them on singles. Maybe to examine the French market since Céline was sort of forgotten there at the time. After Eurovision success, they finally released "Incognito" in 1988 with "Ne partez pas sans moi". Of course, it's only my guessing. "Comment t'aimer" (one of my favorites btw) is more mysterious for me. We can't be sure when it was recorded. Perhaps it was a sort of leftover, recorded in the same time as "Billy" and "En amour". It was a b-side for "Je ne veux pas" while "C'est pour toi" was b-side for "La religieuse". I'm very interested in this kind of things 2 Quote

I'm really interested on this type of stories as well, specially about the mysterious Comment T'aimer as you just mentioned. My guess is that she recorded that song at the same time as Je Ne Veux Pas and La Religieuse since the three songs were written by the same author, but I guess we'll never know... By the way, before she goes into performing Comment T'aimer on the video I shared, she talks about Je Ne Veux Pas as "my latest disc" (which could make the audience believe that it's the tittle of her latest album). Sometimes I wish she would speak in a more exact way about her work. Maybe it's just a synonym for single in French, but I'm not sure. While I was writing a post I totally forgot that Romano Musumarra wrote "Comment t'aimer" as well as "Je ne veux pas". So it makes sense that they were both recorded in the same time. "La religieuse" was written by Didier Barbelivien and it was released later that year with the new lable. I always thought that "Comment t'aimer" sounds like it could fit on "C'est pour toi" album. Also her voice in "En amour" sounds younger than on Incognito album. I read again recently "My Story, My Dream" and it doesn't say specifically which songs she recorded as a replacement, but it's not hard to guess. Yes, "disque" can also refer to the single. But we don't know what she meant by that. 1 Quote
