mike_z Posted January 11, 2013 at 11:10 PM Posted January 11, 2013 at 11:10 PM I don't know why she would struggle when she sings higher songs. For example even a half step lower in Because you Loved me she still sings an E, and for "Taking Chances" she sings an F just fine and in the original key of MHWGO she only has to go up to Eb. The key lowering thing I really don't understand with her haha She always struggled that F on "Taking Chances", except during the tour bc it was lipped. She's always struggled notes above Cs, except when she uses her mixed voice. Quote

There have been two occasions where she performed MHWGO in the original key, this was Oprah 2002 and 2007. Quote

I now remember. I was astonished at the moment that they didn't give oprah the lowered instrumental tracks! She sang IDAN live in the original key (minute 10:30)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-Y8B-iYbw0 and then MHWGO in the original key at (minute 13:01), but she didn't get to the high notes!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dkx0H24jMhI Quote

The Last To Know is, with no doubt, one of the hardest songs from 'Unison'. Interesting that he says "The Last to Know" was a single . .it must not have done very well - at least, I don't remember ever hearing it on the radio. Does anyone know what other singles were released from Unison, other than WHMHBN, which I think was the only hit? I've always wondered why they didn't release Have a Heart as a single, considering the impact that song had on her career (singing it in English at the Junos before she had an English career; the tape of that convincing David Foster to work with them, etc). Tyler1991 Posted January 13, 2013 at 06:34 AM Posted January 13, 2013 at 06:34 AM I like that "The Christmas Song" was in its original key. Her voice is still amazing. I'd hate to think that as she gets older song songs will end up 5 semitones lower than original....it's totally not necessary. Honestly if there was one song she would have to change the key of to perform again it would be "To Love You More", which was already lower when it was live, but the playback was in original key and her dubbed re-recording in 2009 showed that any new playback should probably be lower... 1 Quote

I agree that Celine would probably sing TLYM lower than -1 if she were to do it live again, but she could easily record a new TLYM playback in its original key with her current voice. The dubbing in 2009 was after the tour, when Celine's voice was not in good shape at all. None of the dubbings were exceptional vocally. Just because that wasn't good doesn't mean she can't sing it in the original key now! And to be honest, I think Celine will probably keep her live keys the same for at least the next 10 years. When you look at other singers like Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer, they kept singing in the original keys (or kept to the same lower live key) well into their 60s! Quote

chocolatechip15 Posted January 14, 2013 at 02:21 AM Posted January 14, 2013 at 02:21 AM I love this video, too -- so much that's interesting about it. That's Celine's sister Claudette announcing the award; she clearly has no idea what Celine is about to do. Then you see how the first thing Celine does is go to her and hug her, so that Claudette doesn't feel like it's something against her there. I also love how she waits for one last look from Rene before she gets up -- for that last reassurance -- and you can see she's trying not to cry before she speaks. And the first thing she does when she finishes her speech is to hug her sister again -- very classic Celine. I love it .
