It's clear she was hoarse and had troubles getting these notes out. She put an immense strain on her voice. It sounded wonderful but I can't help but think about how much she damaged her voice by singing like that. On the other hand she shone on Beatuy And The Beast cuzz she didn't strain as much. Her voice was mediocre on Calling You, I hear definitely the great gap between her 1995 vocals and the 1996 vocals. The decline stared there. Nonethelessbutstillofcourse a very nice performance, especially on FIY which isn't vocally demanding at all but is instead stunningly calm and beautifully sang. Every time. It could have been so amazing. I prefer the versions she sang on tour, because they were full versions. On the Italian TV special from San Remo it has been shortened so much, and the instrumentation sounds weird, psychodelic sometimes. Quote

This song must always remain in the: what was she thinking pile, but you can't blame her for it. It's just amazing that she has the guts to take on this song. I give her all credit for that. She did a good job, but it was no match made in heaven. And the track comes as a shocker on the let's make love ballad album. This is the only time I can recall she experimented in her English work. But it wasn't such a smart move just singing it here and no further promo, she should had promoted it all the way out and then see where it led to. And for the first time I hear the verse I have missed for so long... Great performance. It is such a SCF moment to watch it. I just have to say that I'm amazed by her performance at the Essence Awards. I mean, at this time PERIOD, she was EVERYWHERE in the media, on the radio, and on television. And to be able to perform on the Essence Awards as a caucasian artist at an award geared to only African-Americans, man she's got lots of guts! And she deserved that standing ovation at the end I want to see Celine go back to the Essence Awards and perform R-E-S-P-E-C-T along with Natural Woman!
