Anyone from or knows Amsterdam?

I'm going to Amsterdam for a couple of weeks in December for work.

 

I've never been to the Netherlands before, and I hope I get some free time to explore.

 

So far, I have to go to Amsterdam, IJmuiden, and Soest.

 

Can anyone suggest places to go, things to see, places to go for dinner?

I've been to Amsterdam, in 2008, with my best friend. We went to see Celine and it was amazing. We spent 2 days there, but we didn't have money, so we didn't have the chance to do many things. I remember walking a lot, going to Madame Tussauds and eating at McDonalds. But I really liked it there and I would love to go back.

 

I hope someone who's from Amsterdam will see your thread and post some good tips for you.

I've got a few friends who have been, but they've done the activities in Amsterdam that I'm not really interested in, so I was keen to hear what else there is to to there!

Hi, I guess it all depends on your budget, preferences, interests. There's obviously a lot to discover in Amsterdam.

Of course there is the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, also you could go the Paleis op de Dam

Utrecht, Alkmaar and Zaandam might be nice places to visit, which aren't too far from Amsterdam!

And of course The Hague is a gorgeous city

you should go to Zaandam (Zaanse Schans www.zaanseschans.nl/en) and the city centre I would love to be your private guide there since it is the place I live. Just let me know)

Alkmaar is a great city to go to, Haarlem is wonderful (it has the oldest train station of Holland) Volendam is also okay but VERY VERY touristic

Texel (on of the islands of North Holland) Deventer is great to do the city walk Maastricht just do a citywalk The Hague. Kinderdijk. Well, you got the idea just don't stick with Amsterdam.

Remember, you may drive on the right side of the road, but on the continent (mainland of Europe) we drive on the right side of the road. But really I know how confusing it can be, I still remember my first trip to London, I almost got hit by a bus, if it not was for my friend who shouted BUS on the right! So the way you feel when you are on the continent is the same as I feel when I'm in Britten.
