(CNN) -- The latest statement from Joan Rivers' daughter gave no new information about the comedian's condition three days after she was rushed to a New York hospital.

 

"Thank you for your continued love and support," Melissa Rivers said Sunday. "We are keeping our fingers crossed."

 

Rivers, 81, stopped breathing during throat surgery at a Manhattan medical clinic Thursday morning, according to the New York Fire Department. She apparently suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest during a procedure.

 

 

She was listed in critical condition in New York's Mount Sinai Hospital, where paramedics took her by ambulance.

 

 

Her daughter's initial statement, made public late Thursday when she arrived at the hospital after a flight from Los Angeles, said her mother was "resting comfortably."

 

Her next statement Friday also gave little indication of Rivers' prognosis.

 

"Her condition remains serious, but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."

 

Rivers' was undergoing an apparently minor elective procedure at the clinic, which is about a mile away from the hospital where she was taken.

 

She had been scheduled to perform her comedy act at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey, the next night.

Michael Lucas, who was in the audience for Rivers' show at New York's Laurie Beechman Theatre on Wednesday night, told CNN that she joked about death.

 

"She said, 'You know I'm 81 years old, and I could drop dead at any moment and you would be so lucky because you will have a story to tell your friends for the rest of your life,'" Lucas said. "Then she mimicked people talking about what it was like to see her drop dead on stage."

 

 

Rivers was in fine form, he said. "There was no sign (Wednesday) night that she was declining. Her show was over an hour long and she never stumbled or even paused to catch her breath."

 

In 2013, Rivers allowed cameras to record a health scare for her and her daughter's reality show, "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?"

Rivers said on the show that doctors found a spot on an X-ray after she had a persistent cough.

 

"We're just not going to be sad about this," Joan Rivers said during the episode. "We're gonna do jokes and be up until we know. That's how I deal with things. I'm not just gonna sit around the next couple of days and go crazy."

 

Rivers has been open about her health issues. She was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2002 after a fall down some stairs left her with broken bones, and she became an advocate for screenings for women.

 

She also admitted to not being as healthy as she could be.

 

 

"I try not to be, but I'm a terrible eater," she said. "I wish I could say I eat super-healthy, but I don't. I love junk food -- it should be its own food group -- so I help my bones with supplements and medicine."

This is so sad. I love Joan River's. Fashion Police is one of my favorite shows. Joan has always been so full of life. It doesn't feel like she is 81 years old, with her energy and work ethic. I really, really hope she pulls through this and comes out of her coma as the same Joan everyone knows and loves.

 

I can't even imagine what her family must be going through right now. I send all my prayers to Joan and her family at this difficult time and I really, really hope everything will be okay because I can't even begin to imagine a world without Joan Rivers.

This sucks. I am so pissed off at whoever operated on her vocal cords. Something like this can't just happen to a perfectly healthy person. Joan was so full of live. I have to use words like was now and I can't believe it, I can't believe she's gone. This should not have happened.

 

I am a regular watcher of Fashion Police and I saw Joan every Friday night. Joan did not look the least bit sick or give any evidence of growing weak, so I now this could have been avoided. Joan should still be with us today, but she's not and I am so beyond mad at how this went down.

 

I can't even begin to imagine how I'm going to watch Fashion Police without seeing Joan's face and hearing her voice and her jokes. I am so saddened right now, I'm just shocked. I really thought she was going to pull through. I feel like my grandma just died.

 

R.I.P. Joan Rivers. You will be missed by so many people.

We're still blessed with all her amazing shows, youtube-series, books and other things she did. But yes, I would have loved to see her live aswell.

I just read that it was dr. Gwen Korovin. Celine's ear, nose and throat doctor! I recognized the name from her books! Crap. I wonder if she's still her doctor.

Are you sure that's the doctor who operated on Joan? I thought the doctor that operated on Joan was a guy?

 

OMG. If that's the same doctor, I hope Celine isn't with that doctor anymore, but who knows. Mistakes happen. Maybe this doctor is good at there job and just messed up like anyone can do from time to time.

 

I highly dought it though because I heard that this doctor took a selfie with Joan right before she stopped breathing. Joan wasn't awake when the doctor took the selfie and I find that very unprofessional and creepy.

I think there's some confusion about what Dr. Gwen Korovin did. For those who don't know, Dr. Korovin is the doctor that we see in TTEOTW when Celine was sick in New York during the TC Tour. Dr. Korovin did not perform the surgery on Joan, it was a different doctor who works at the clinic there, but reportedly did a biopsy (what we saw her do with Celine in the office when they are looking inside her throat at her vocal chords), and supposedly this caused Joan's vocal chords to block her air supply, causing her to go into cardiac arrest.

 

Now, here's my opinion. Though there are a lot of things that are against the doctor (taking a selfie, which is not even confirmed yet, and not being authorized to perform at that hospital), I would like to think that all of this was a freak accident. Dr. Korovin has been working for over twenty years to my knowledge and has worked with many people in the entertainment world, Celine, Lady Gaga, Hugh Jackman, Julie Andrews, Luciano Pavarotti, Pink, and Daniel Radcliffe just to name a few. She is the one who saved Celine's voice after the Incognito tour, suggesting that she rest her voice for a long period of time rather than undergo surgery for her vocal chords. I would like to think that the doctor would know what she is doing, if she's been working for so many people and for so long. I don't think anyone had any intention of harm towards Joan and that rather than speculate the reason as to why she passed away, we should focus on the more important portion of her, her life, her talent, and her personality.
