Rene Angelil still alive in the World Series of Poker. Manager and husband of international superstar Celine Dion is still alive in the World Series of Poker -- Rio Circuit Event. Angelil was one of 222 entries and is one of the finalists going into Day Three. Angelil is ranked 13th in chip count of the remaining 27 players.

Rene Angelil is a man of modest background endowed with a remarkable intuition, who has always believed in his good fortune. He has gone through all kinds of failures before learning how to manage success. A poker player since his childhood, he has waited forty years before meeting the one who was to become the most popular female singer on earth, Celine Dion.

A manager with an artist soul, he is a perfectionist obsessed with the image and the control of everything related to the star Celine Dion, who has become the unchallenged goddess of millions of fans.

Rene Angelil, the younger of two brothers, was born on January 16, 1942, in Montreal, Canada, but his parents are originated from Syria.

He studied on the College Grasset and on the school Les Clercs de Saint-Viateur in Outremont, Montreal.

When he was twenty years old, Angelil formed with Jean Beaulne and Pierre Labelle, a pop rock group, "The Baronets", who were known as "Quebec's Beatles." This group had some hits in the 60's as "C'est Fou", "Mais, C'est tout" and "Hold Me Tight".

After the dissolution of the group, Rene Angelil began managing artists.

He managed the career of two great singers of Quebec: Rene Simard and Ginette Reno.

In January 1981, Ginette had decided to change manager, when he heard the young voice that has changed his life dramatically and allow himself to realize his largest dreams.

In 1987 and 1988, he won the Felix Award of manager of the year.

On December 17, 1994, Rene Angelil (52) married Celine Dion (26).

WSOP Circuit Championship Day #2, 27 Remain.

The second day of the WSOP Championship event at the Rio finished this evening after 27 players remained from today's starting field of 72. Play completed early in the evening shortly before 9:00 pm. The 27 surviving players will return on Tuesday for a noon start to determine the lucky six that will make the TV table. ESPN will film the final table play on Wednesday for later broadcast on the sports network. The three tables of players include professional's T.J. Cloutier, Jennifer Harman and Phil Ivey. Another familiar face at the tables was Rene Angelil, husband of singer Celine Dion.

The end of day #2 had chip leader, Tom Schneider, with $239,000 followed by Grant Lang holding $184,300. T.J. Cloutier is third in the chip count with $175,300. Professional player, Tony Ma, had amassed a stack of $172,900 and the Canadian Super Bomber, Doug Lee, had $94,300 after going all the way down to $1,500 on the first day before clawing his way back into contention. Well known player, Phil Ivey, continuously massaged during today's play, remains in the hunt with $81,500. Rene Angelil ended the day with $71,300; while Jennifer Harman, the sole surviving female, was holding $48,800 in chips.

The event will pay the top eighteen players with $695,970 going to the winner.

Tuesday will see the twenty-seven players seated and the cards in the air at noon. Play continues on Tuesday until only six players remain. The action will probably be fast and aggressive, if today was any indication. Late in the evening on Monday the play became much more aggressive and bold with someone all-in most of the time. The players do tend to tighten up once they are close enough to smell the money; but play aggressively to get one of the final table seats.
