In light of recent events with this "person" has Celine ever been in any controversies?

There was also a controversy surrounding a comment she made back in the late 80's/early 90's saying she did not support Quebec seceding from the rest of Canada. She caught a lot of backlash and bad press from those who did support it, and that's why she tends to shy away from political issues/controversy in general.

 

Hopefully someone else can fill in the details on this one, because my memory of the specifics is vague.

Well I like when she talks or speaks about things that maybe people think should have an opinion on like;

1. Whitney Houston's death when she talked about Whitney using drugs and such.

2. Hurricane Katrina when she gave opinion-but then again their might be much controversy other than those things.

I agree. I love Celine dearly, and have for over 17 years, but I like that she seems to be less interested in pleasing people as she gets older. Even the response to the Daniel Marriweather fiasco (though released from her "management") was a little more blunt than I think it would have been, say, ten or fifteen years ago.

Aww I would like to know where you saw that statement but then again if you don't remember than that's ok but that is sooo true tho. Celine can just say things and quickly come the haters to go and bash on here every word.

 

I also agree with you that she no longer wants to please people anymore. Why would she? She has absolutely nothing to prove to anyone so why even bother. She is a 45 year woman who has her priorities in order. I wish certain people in the industry who also have nothing to prove would just follow her motto.

To elucidate the phenomenal successes of course one has to take into account the absence of controversy, which accomplished her image, as well as her music perfectly.

In other words, considering the other acts/artists in the top 10 of music history most successful acts, once provided by wjb in another topic, the lack of controversy certainly seems striking. So despite of acts such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis, controversy apparently was not required to have phenomenal success.

Meaning, obviously, she and her team equal true genius.

I can't remember where i read it but if i remember correctly, there was a controversy by the time of A New Day... in 2002 when she wanted the vegas show to be called "MUSE". the music band refused to see their name used for a Celine Dion show and the won against her so the show was called "A NEW DAY" at last.

Apparently she used tons of water and got some stick for it

yes that's right! and also another controversy with one of the architects working on her new home. She sued him because the building of the house took more time than it was supposed to be. and let's not forget the controversy about Rene Charles' hair where some stupid persons thought it was the way it was 'cause Celine wanted to have a baby girl but she had a boy and she refused to cut his hair for him to look like a girl !

To me, only the first one is a REAL controversy: as in one people could remember for a long time and one that could alter her image in a way, or affect her career.

If the general public would know about her large scale lipping; by means of a journalistic and thorough article or reportage or whatever, then this would affect her hugely.

I think this is like a latent scandal/controversy hanging above her head like a Damocles sword.

This article clarifies his arguments a bit.. he stated he was the original author of Dreaming of You. However, he is mentioned as writer with Aldo Nova, who produced the track and delivered most of the music arrangements, including the percussion parts.

SO, though he is a musician, a drummer himself and the writer -or one of two- of the song, he was clearly left out the production and recording of the song already in 1995 (when DOY was recorded for Falling Into You).

 

By all means, if executed correctly he would have gained lots of US Dollars being one of the writers involved in the FIY project.

They even released DOY as a single at one time..

These things aren't necessarily controversial in the definition that the others are. These are personal choices she makes for herself that don't involve other human beings. It's unfortunate for the animals, yes, but you'd have to lump Celine in with millions of other carnivores and fur-wearers in that case. I'm a vegetarian, so I understand your view, but these are life choices she has made for herself, not controversial matters.
