One thing we desperately need is a new DVD collection of her music videos. The ATW DVD had some strange choices, leaving out many early videos and using live performances when they could have used the proper videos (BATB, BYLM, TLYM). They had an excellent opportunity to release a DVD when My Love Essential Collection was released in 2008. With all the videos Celine has done it could easily be a 3 disc set! I agree, guys. The first GH is usually the Ultimate collection in terms of sales, regardless how ultimate they want it to be or sound.

 

And no, no, no for a GH anytime soon. I'd love to have, like Tim says, a comprehensive collection of ALL her videos. That would be amazing.

 

Part of me would love the Collector Series, Volume II, but just for the sake of completing the darn series and not leave it there hanging and always asking where on earth is volume 2??. Hehe

Ooops I thought he was talking about another english greatest hits. Another french one would be nosense since they already did that in 2005 with On ne change pas (though it took them 24 years to do that! ).

 

But I agree with the option of another "The Collector's Series Vol. 2", that's not exactly a greatest hits album but an album with less known songs and some rarities/unreleased songs, and its about time they release that. But they just don't want to or don't care at all.

My uncle owns a lot of her concert tour DVDs and the A Decade of Songs music video compilation which I have borrowed over the past few years. I'd like to get one of her albums, so can anyone suggest the best one for me? (Most of my favourite songs are from the late 90s/ early 2000s if that helps)

Another greatest hits album? I hope they take their time in releasing the next one. Or, at least, release a compilation that consists solely of unreleased tracks, B sides, and demo recordings. Or maybe a greatest hits album without the usual tracks ("My Heart Will Go On", "The Power of Love", "Because You Loved Me") and instead focus on post-2000 singles only.

 

Either way, I don't see Sony releasing a GH album for another couple of years, at least.

To go with the theme of your thread, I guess you'd need to get the "My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection," as it's the most comprehensive CD with the majority of hits from both the 90s and 00s.

If you mean a compilation with some of her hits, then I'd suggest you to get "All The Way... A Decade Of Song" (1999), which sums up pretty well what the 90's were for Céline + 7 excellent new tracks.

 

But if you want to discover also new songs and an amazing album from her, I'd get "A New Day Has Come" (2002) if you like the best combination of pop songs and ballads in her career. You won't regret this one!

 

In a way, you can get the best of both decades with this two albums!

They'll probably get an idea to make an album titled "All The Way Down... A Decade Of Decadence"

Before another compilation disc, Celine should release a new Christmas album. Or, as we've talked about in the past, re-release TAST with bonus tracks (remember the David Foster Christmas tracks?). It would be a simple release that would keep Celine's name among the top Christmas sellers -- and it could be an easy project to do while still performing in Vegas over these next few years.

 

Celine is no longer going to have mainstream radio "hits" so the material on the compilation discs needs to be more like Barbra Streisand's -- where the material is made up more rare/unreleased recordings, special recordings, demo versions of songs -- kind of like a "B-side" mixed with her best recordings, regardless of whether or not they were hits.

 

Nevertheless, this will at least need to be towards the end of this Vegas run. I could see an album similar to The Collectors Series to be released down the road to continue promotion for her Vegas show.

 

I think, most realistically, we will have in the next few years:

 

-Obviously, the upcoming release of Water and a Flame

-perhaps a DVD and CD of an English-based tour in 2014?

-a DVD and CD release of her upcoming French concerts

-a new French album written and composed by JJG. I think he and Celine should work together again before Rene's health really declines. (I don't mean to sound morbid, just realistic). They can record the entire thing in Vegas & FL.

-a DVD and CD release of the Vegas show

-a new Christmas project (re-release of TAST with bonus tracks) or maybe a new Christmas project, heavy with duets with people like Andrea, Barbra, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett, even Christina A., etc.

Another case in which we could get another greatest hits collection soon, and I hope it's not the case, is if they changed record labels and if there would still be some albums left in their contract. I don't think this will happen, given that she has been with Sony for a long time, and the French album has done really well.

no to a greatest hits - theres nothing to go on it that we dont already have in a compilation cd.

i think there should be an epic release of unreleased records - an english version and then a french version - i think both editions packaged differently for their markets would storm the charts.

 

we wont be getting a cd/dvd of the up and coming concerts away from vegas - as that is what the trouble rene was having with doing those concerts - with their contract with vegas they arent allowed to release concert material that could damage the vegas venture - its in an article somewhere not so long ago im sure. its a shame any new material from celine would be accepted from me just no miming!!!

There's All The Way... Decade of Song (Half Greatest and half studio album)

My Love Essential Collection and The Essential i love those albums very much but i agree no more Greatest Hits albums please we have enough.

But i agree with LukeD and with others how about compilation album that is full of rare tracks that haven't been released onto to Celine's CDs before or songs that have been released onto a Celine Dion CD but are very hard to get. You can get Ziggy French version on Celine's albums but what about her English Version? You can only listen to that Version while watching the Music Video.

Unfortunately, those rare songs will not be released until many, many years from now to get maximum profits for the label. Unfortunately, we are at the label's mercy with such releases. From thier point of view, and business-wise, they'll keep throwing greatest hits at us. That's why there's such over-saturation with greatest hits from every artist on the planet.

What I meant by a greatest hits album is an album featuring her previous songs, not necessarily her best or most popular songs. Having said that, I think the more accurate question I'm trying to ask is 'When is the right time for Celine to release her next compilation album?

What I mean is that she delayed this album too much time, they kept pushing it back over and over again, even when they could have released at least an EP or a couple of new singles in all these long 6 years of absence. Well, the truth is that they didn't, and prefered to ignore the fact that the more time she was gone from the english market, the harder to come back and the bigger expectatives she would create with the new material.

 

They ignored all this and she just preferred to concentrate on her Vegas concerts when she resumed her activity in 2011 I'm not sure if the place she left in 2008 will be the same 5 years later, and if radios and the music industry on the whole will support her return. I hope so, but I've always thought that she has neglected her english career all this time in a very stupid way.

Hehe no I didn't pretend to be dramatic, but its true, some artists have seen their career go into decline precisely because they took too much time between an album and the next one. That's just a fact that has happened to many artists... because they waited too much to release something new.

 

I hope it's not the case of Céline of course, but it's very true that she has neglected a lot her international career and her fans not releasing anything new during all these years, even when she could have released a lot of things that they have kept locked in some drawer...

 

Yet she will always have her old hits to perform in her concerts, but will she move on from that? I don't know.

This will sound macabre, but I truly believe Sony won't release a decent GH album until after Céline's death. And we might not even be around to enjoy it :-P
