The report also revealed the Top Selling Albums in the Soundscan Era (1995 to 2012). Topping the list was Shania Twain's Come On Over with 1,941,000 units sold. Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love placed second (1,491,000) with Adele's 21 third (1,394,000).

I don't get it. Adele has truly a beautiful voice, but her album 21 is the most depressing and boring one i ever heard. Take the 4 singles out (which are awesome songs btw) and the album is crap! I feel like people got tricked into buying her album cause of those 4 songs.

 

Nothing spectacular with her voice.

 

Celine's voice sounds different on every single song in pretty much all her albums. Its not repetitive, unlike 21

Well then they did a very good job by choosing 4 amazing singles..

 

Besides, it's not just the "voice", or the "songs" (lyrics/melody), or the "personality" it's the full package and also very lucky(?) timing.

There are only a few who got "it" right, like for example Adele (past few years) and Shania Twain ('90's).

Do you guys realise that in Canada, Celine has sold over FIFTEEN-MILLION albums? That's more than any other soloist.

 

The only other act that's topped 15m albums is The Beatles. Michael Jackson, Madonna and U2 are millions behind.

 

Adele and Mariah are millions and millions and millions behind! In Canada, whether 21 tops Lets Talk About Love or not [which by the way, it won't anytime soon - I'll explain below], that doesn't detract from the fact that in Canada, Celine sits atop the tree. And Adele can only dream of reaching the heights Celine did. What Adele has done with 21 [1m+ in Canada], Celine has done 6 times already. What Adele has done with 21 worldwide, Celine has bested twice already [two 30m+ sellers].

 

About the 21 vs Lets Talk About Love Canadian sales - LTAL has sold 1.5m copies - still 100k+ more than Adele on Soundscan. What Lets Talk About Love also benefited from was music club sales and a non-comprehensive Soundscan coverage. In total, I estimate Lets Talk About Love's sales to lie between 1.7-1.8m in Canada [32m+ worldwide].
