She very possibly did, I seem to remember hearing about a possible release of it in the UK, but for some reason that never materialised.

It would seem a no brainer not to have recorded it in English too, especially as it was a time when many Eurovision songs were translated for an English speaking audience.

I think a Scandanavian or Icelandic band released an English version a few years back. Euroband or something they were called.

(As you probably know, she did of course release a German version: Hand In Hand)

I read somewhere (I guess it was in the official biography) that at the press conference after she won the contest, a journalist asked if she was going to release an english version of the song and that René answered "no" and added that they were preparing an entire album in English.

Stupid question:

is there a version that mentions "Captain Kirk"?

I have a clear recollection of hearing her sing "captain kirk". I played this song to my bf, who is a star trek fan, and it wasn't there!! Am I imagining things or mixing the lyrics with another song?

I think you're thinking of "Star Trekking" by The Firm

They are both very similar songs and easy to mix up.

But jokes aside, you're thinking of "A Quatre Pas D'ici", but it's Captain Kidd, not Kirk. (Captain Kidd was a pirate)
