This is how it would have sound when xtina had done it. totally over the top vocals..in fact the song has been.raped. not saying this girl sang offkey or something but i hated it..sorry. the melody has been changed and all these unneccesary adlibs totally ruin the majestic sound and emotion in this otherwise great song. And I am also not saying that Celine is the only one who can do this song justice. This is just not the song to do vocal tricks like this in, it just does not work. Yeah, this was a terrible rendition. I welcome covers of Celine's songs… But I'm waiting for a really great cover. Like when an American Idol contestant (can't remember his name) covered Mariah's Always Be My Baby and made it his own. It was incredible. It seems like that's yet to happen with a Celine song. It's as though these young singers think they can really tackle an epic song and expect it to be better than the original. It's incredibly dangerous to ask for direct comparison to one of the greatest vocalists of all time.

 

BUT I also loved the judge's comments. And I'm glad that Christina finally said Celine's name. Celine has a strange stance in the pop world right now. She is shown respect overall -- but there's still an underlying feeling that's it's "uncool" to think she's great. Similar to Barbra Streisand. This is true in America, at least. I hope the view continues to change as the years keep passing.

No.it was written for Meatloaf, but they didnt record it then. Pandora's box first recorded it in 89, celine in 96, meatloaf not untill 2005? Which was horrible!

Goodness gracious! That girl might sound okay on other songs that she might sing. I haven't heard her sing anything else, but singing MHWGO was just absolutely positively wrong!!!! She was pitchy, and that's just one of those songs that I don't think she should have even attempted. Yikes! That was hard on the ears, and truly rather hard to watch. I think that she could've been mentored a little bit better. Christina should have talked her out of singing it, even if she had to put her foot down!!! No doubt about it!!!

I think it was David Cook who covered Always Be My Baby if I remember correctly! And I like what Sylvia says about MHWGO in this article, it's so true!

 

"Two things went through my mind. 'Oh crap' was definitely one of them. And the second one was 'Gosh, I love this song.' I have so much respect for Celine. Obviously it was a challenge but I love taking risks. So I'm really happy with it. I wanted people today to like this song because it's so iconic and I feel like a lot of people today don't appreciate it as much."

I agree, what is great with artists like Celine, or Whitney and Adele, is that they use techniques to restrain their voices. So many think they can sing like them by just screaming. I always thought that shows like this coached the singers in technique, obviously not. Why is this girl singing on tv?

Yeah, I have the same feeling, but I don't understand why...

Because she don't write her songs? Is because Celine isn't American? Because she got a BIG voice but she isn't a black singer?

Is because she sing ballads and she don't sing R&B or dance music that is very popular in USA? Is because the main songs of Celine are love songs that nowdays considered cheesy songs? Is because Celine done so much cover that they not considered a original singer? (even when every cover that she sing is better than the original one)

 

I don't know...

 

For example, Adele isn't American, she isn't black singer, and her songs are ballads and love songs as well, and is so cool when

people say that are Adele's fans, or admitting she es great. Even she is very well accepted in the young people... Is because she write her songs?

 

So, why Celine have that "uncool" feeling...

I'd like to read more opinions about that "uncool" feeling, cause I have to admit that sometimes with some people, specially with the new people I meet, I don't like to say that I'm a Celine Dion fan, and it's for that "uncool" feeling.

Sometimes they look at me weird, so... I have to hide it And don't get me wrong, I'm a proud Celine's fan, but you know what I mean.
