Digital Spy (UK) has just published a list of the Official Biggest Selling Female Singles Artists of All Time.

They are as follows:

1. Madonna (17.8m)

2. Rihanna (11.4m)

3. Kylie Minogue (10.2m)

4. Whitney Houston (8.5m)

5. Lady GaGa (7.329m)

6. Britney Spears (7.324m)

7. Beyoncé (6.9m)

8. Celine Dion (6.7m)

9. Mariah Carey (6.62m)

10. Olivia Newton John (6.61m)

Think this is pretty impressive as Celine has never really been much of a singles artists - saying that she is still the only one to have 2 x 1 Million Sellers in the UK with Think Twice and then My Heart Will Go On and that's an amazing achievement!

Unfortunately, I have heard that Rihanna too can now call claim to having two 1 Million Selling singles as well. :P

Rihanna has two, nearly 3 one million sellers.

Kylie also has two now, as does Olivia Newton John [though the latter's are duets].

In an albums list, Celine would be #3, behind Madonna and about 100,000 albums behind Whitney.

Celine and Whitney have both sold just shy of 12m albums in the UK.

Yeah it's a good position for Celine considering really she's not sold any singles in the UK since 2002. Everything after that didn't really have much impact on the charts. If they were to release the album figures it would be a much different chart I feel.

And yes as confirmed above Celine sadly no longer holds that record of being the only female artist to have 2 one million sellers. She held the record for years though. :)

As does Celine's now - Celine's added about 125,000 digital sales of MHWGO to her 1.3m physical tally.

Well potentially - back when My Heart Will Go On was released, a physical single would routinely cost you between £1.99-£3.99 in the UK.

Take out distribution costs, manufacturing and packaging costs, and you really aren't left with a vastly profitable item - in relation to a digital single, which comparatively speaking will see roughly 30% of its cost go to the supplier [i.e. Apple] - because of the availability and easy access of a download these days, a digital single can make up what it would've lost the label had it been a physical single, because it sells more as a digital single anyway. As a percentage, digital sales will reap around 65% profit. A physical single will NOT reap anywhere close to that.

Not to discredit Celine's two million sellers any - during the 90's, she sold more records in the UK than any other act, bar Oasis - she was the top-selling female, the top-selling international and the top-selling overall solo act.

But this plateau that physical singles are placed upon is misguided, as actually - they didn't make the label much more money than what a download does, once all costs are taken out. And at the end of the day, all that matters is profitability.

it isnt misplaced Wayne because it cost US the fans more to buy a single back then than it does now. Don't you think singles would have sold more had hey been cheaper (cough cough Carey cough hahahaha). I for one would have bought more singles if they were cheaper. I mean instead of buying one 3.99 single i could buy four .99 singles. There's a difference... Edited by pat200

Okay, so its more of an achievement for the artist - that I accept.

But as for the label's profit, my point still stands - and from that perspective, Celine's two million sellers aren't that much more impressive than Rihanna's two, three or soon to be four!

And as for singles, no I wouldn't have bought more - I don't buy singles, not even for my lovely Celine! :P Although I did buy Taking Chances digitally, and I think I might buy her new single, just showing my support like!

It's great she's in the top 10, but Sony, her team and Céline really fecked up in the last decade. GSTW as a single, not releasing IDAN as a single; it all lead to the low sells she had from 2002 on. If she had focused a bit more on the UK (European) market, she would have been before Beyonce no doubt!

btw I am really surprised that Rhianna got that many legal downloads in this day and age!
