Celine's dream of doing cinema

Recommended Posts

She has spoken many times, ever since the 90's, about wanting to do movies. Why do you think she hasn't been in one yet? She's a big star so how come a good role hasn't come her way. Even Whitney despite her long battle with personal problems managed to do Sparkle (which i saw in theaters and loved) before she passed, also Barbra is coming up with a new movie at the end of the year.

Do you think it's because of Celine's accent? her looks? her over the top gestures/expressions on stage? Obviously she shouldn't take any movie role that comes her way, as we saw with Mariah and how it can be a big disaster... The same for Madonna and her numerous movies that flopped (with a few good ones in there). But still sometimes when I see Celine talk about this, it's almost as if it kind of hurts her a little bit that this dream hasn't come true. She's not getting younger, so I don't know what role she could still land, especially with no prior experience. I mean Barbra & Whitney are older but probably landed their recent roles because of their "established" careers before. In other words, it probably would have been much harder for them to land their "first role" in their late 40's.

Anyways, I guess I'm surprised no major hollywood star has approached her like Costner and Denzel did for Whitney in the 90's although Whitney i guess had a more "hollywood movie star" beauty. But heck even Christina, Beyonce, Britney and tons of divas managed to do movies so it shouldn't be too complicated although they were young. But even Rene Angelil did one recently even though it was a small gig and not a major hollywood picture. I know that some of you are probably thinking that Celine is probably waiting for the perfect role, but there's no such thing, sometimes a movie project looks great on paper but then turns out to being a flop critically and commerically. So you can't be "too" picky.

I remember reading that Celine was set to appear in one of those Ocean Eleven movies. It didn't seem like a big role but I wonder why it didn't happen. Anyways time will tell.

I hope she has some time to squeeze in to act in some movies. We need new faces in the theatre! I bet she's been busy with Vegas and the boys - I hadn't seen much news about her until now with the BAMBI Awards and with the Whitney Tribute. I hope she does get into the movie business, she'd be great, and I think the movie would be a huge hit if she had her own movie. Of course besides her tour movie.

Don't worry, both Céline and René are still planning to have Céline starring in a movie about the life of María Callas. Céline said it during an interview with Denis Levesque, and René talked about this as well during his interview with him. Both interviews were broadcasted earlier this month.

I could see that, knowing how Maria impacted Celine and she did do a song with/about her.

Can you all just see it... "and the Oscar goes to...Celine Dion."

:D :)

And, welcome to the newcomers. I notice that in this topic alone, we have 2 of you. Yay, welcome.

L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle! :)

The thing is though that the Maria Callas project was first reported on at least 5 if not 6-7 years ago. If it was happening we would have heard much about it. It may be something she was thinking about, but never happened. Also how do we know that she can act? Yea she can sing, she has other musical as well as social (interpersonal) abilities but acting is very different. It may very well be she decided that she did not want to put herself through this, the scrutiny many crossovers get as well as the many hours filming and being away from her family.

From a personal perspective Im not sure I would want to see her in a movie unless I knew/heard she was going to be absolutely great in it.

But did Celine and Rene concretely confirm that they are doing the Callas film? Cuz to me it just sounded like they were just talking about it as a dream project that they would like to do. Which is something they both have been saying for years.

I feel that if it hasn't happened by now then most likely it will never happen. Celine's not getting any younger, and let's be honest, her popularity has diminshed. And we all know how Hollywood works. They like to make movies with young starlets who are in their prime. The few roles for older characters are cast by the studios and they always go with an established older actress.

Then there's Celine's acting. Someone mentioned earlier - is she good at acting? I know I'm gonna get flack for this but we've all seen Celine where she's wooden and clearly reading from cue cards. Granted its a small read-through but the point is if she's like that for something so small then how's she gonna be in a movie?

But she doesn't need to go into movies because music is where her legacy is.

I think this will happen after the vegas show OR during the final years of her career

I do think her accent contributes to how she has never done a movie. I think it severely limits the roles she could be up for (unless she could learn to hide it). Maria Callas had kind of an accent...very different from Celine's, though. Maria sounded sort of....snobby. :whistling: (sorry!)

Many good actors work on hiding their accents and/or taking other accents for a movie... and with a good coach they can do it and Céline could do it to!

When Celine has had the small guest spots acting as *herself*, it's been a bit wooden and awkward (I'm thinking in particular of The Nanny performance) . . . but if she could lose herself and be another character, I think she'd be AMAZING. Have you seen Des fleurs sur la neige - the miniseries Celine starred in in 1990? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZyDCf1DcTY -- I don't understand most of the French, but I was surprised by how *good* Celine is -- completely inhabiting a character quite different from herself.

I think she'd be great at something dramatic -- I also think she could do comedy. She has fantastic comic timing, great funny faces . .I thought she was great and funny in her guest spot on The Princes of Malibu - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y51bv6rsNqo - supposedly a reality show, but obviously scripted.

I would LOVE to hear her without an accent!

Reading from cue cards that she probably did not have a chance to look at until 20 minutes before taping a message is a bit different from getting to read an entire script and engulfing yourself in the character you are going to be playing. I think she could do it. She can memorize a song after 1 or 2 listens, why not be able to memorize lines and get into the character? Not saying after 1 or 2 readings, but I think she is more than capable.

She have enough money :shifty:

And I'm sure that she is a GREAT actress

I hope she does the movie soon, because time flies so fast, hopefully when Vegas ends.

No world tour again inmediately, no more albums, only focus in the movie. :-D

I think she would have been perfect to do the French and English (especially cos of her accent!) voice of Belle (BATB), that would have been so awesome! :in_love:

as an actress she would do well, but singing like Maria Callas - yes she did a great job doing that song on the D'Elles album, but she will be compared with singers from that genre that really can sing like Callas, which is a certain way of singing Celine is not used to do, they will critizize her. For us it sounds amazing, but I think the people in the Opera genre, the real knowabouts, they will have a very different opinion, don't you think?

Back in 2007 she had a meeting with an Opera coach, and he said she could definitly sing Opera, though of course with a lot of training...

She should have jumped the wagon then. I think she should let the Callas dream go, cos now I don't see it happening, or she should do it within the next 3 years.

I agree. I think it is a very "closed society." (opera singers) I think they would love the chance to tear her apart! I kind of hope she wouldn't do it...

I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

Are there any Les Mis fans out there?

Celine would have been perfect for Fantine. Great wayto get her feet wet in a major production! The movie comes out in Dec.

I know! Not that I have anything against Anne Hathaway but I could just imagine hearing/seeing Celine in that part! Perfect range for her and all! Oh well, water under the bridge!

I agree COMPLETELY. She would be so perfect in that role. The drama; the emotion -- her singing "I Dreamed a Dream" . .I have wanted to hear Celine sing Les Mis FOREVER!! And I think a younger Celine could have been an amazing Eponine . . can't you see Eponine singing Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore??

Yes she would have been wonderful for Eponine in her younger days. (not that she is old  ) "On My Own" all the way!

GUYS! We could say this project is almost confirmed! On her interview with Daniela Lumbrosio yesterday she said this:

If you play Maria Callas, you will not need dubbing voice anyway?

Level voice, we'll talk. I could do little things here and there, but I'm not an opera singer! That's another world ... But I'm sure I'll be well protected and well managed through this new adventure. I hope anyway ...
