Bieber, Lavigne, Gosling related: Report

By QMI Agency

If Chavril has a baby, it will have Bieber blood.

Three of Canada's biggest superstars may be distant cousins, a new report suggests.

Pop stars Justin Bieber and Avril Lavigne, as well as actor and beloved Internet heartthrob Ryan Gosling, are distantly related, according to Ancestry.ca.

"Discoveries like this are rare, so the fact that some of Canada's top entertainment industry stars are all related is especially fascinating," Lesley Anderson, a genealogist for Ancestry.ca, said in a press release.

"There's something special about discovering a shared connection, and to be able to go so far back in history to do so is one of the most satisfying aspects of family history research."

The Cancon trio reportedly share a common ancestry that goes back 400 years to some of Quebec's earliest settlers.

Bieber and Gosling are 11th cousins once removed, while Bieber and Lavigne are 12th cousins, the site's family researchers found.

The Biebs is connected to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger's fiancee through a couple named Mathurin Roy and Marguerite Bire, who were both born in France in the early 1600s and later migrated to Quebec.

Bieber is also related to French-Canadian pop queen Celine Dion. The two crooners are 10th cousins three times removed through Jacques Vezina and Marie Boisdon, who also immigrated to Quebec from France in the 1600s.

For those who are interested in the "Madonna / Celine - family tree". I've found that once in a while at the web. Can't remember where exactely. If it's been made by someone here at the Forum: Forgive me, I didn't / don't know!

Yes, Celine mentions it in the Wayne Brady interview in 2003 -- when he's asking her random questions, he asks "If Madonna tried to kiss you, what would you do?" and Celine sings a little of some song and then says "It means that we're related. I don't even know if it's true . . I've heard that we're supposed to be related."

It starts at 8:07 in this interview (the whole interview is hysterical - some of her best "funny" chemistry with anyone since Rosie):

There is a theory among geneticists that most people in the world are 50th cousins if not closer so it is not that surprising. Im sure if someone really wanted to they could find several distant relatives here on the forum. That said, there are groups of people who tend not to marry outside their own group, Jews historically, Indigenous Australians were isolated as well.

I was going to explain how this theory is possible but this youtube video does it rather well.

I just found out today that Celine and I are 9th cousins 4 times removed. If that's not the coolest thing ever then I don't know what is. Is anybody else related to Celine somehow?

I must be related to her somewhere...my grandmother was a Dion! :)

what does "X times removed" mean?

It just means that my ancestor four generations up from me is her 9th cousin. So for example, your parents' first cousins are your 1st cousins, once removed. 2nd cousins share the same great grandparents, 3rd cousins share the same great great grandparents, etc.
