neilg Posted September 4, 2012 at 07:23 PM Posted September 4, 2012 at 07:23 PM I'm going to be moving to Paris for a couple of years in October with work. I've been to Paris only once in August, but I had no free time to explore. Can anyone give me any tips or suggestions of where to go, what to see, where to eat, etc? Apart from the obvious Eiffel Tower, Louvre... Any hidden gems anyone has discovered? I'm really excited and nervous at the same time about moving to France! Thanks for your help. Quote
Alex_Incognito Posted September 6, 2012 at 01:29 AM Posted September 6, 2012 at 01:29 AM I know Paris very, very well. However, that said, one can never see everything in Paris. My suggestion is to buy a GOOD guidebook and use it. Rick Steves has a fantastic guide book on Paris. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions. Vous parlez français? neilg Posted September 8, 2012 at 07:34 PM Author Posted September 8, 2012 at 07:34 PM I speak a little French, but I stopped studying it at GCSE. I visited France for the first time since 1999 a couple of weeks ago, and the French started to come back to me by the end of the visit. I will be living in Clamart or Plessis-Robinson, and working nearby, so I won't be in the center of Paris. A lot of people told me to live in 14th and 15th districts, but I don't want a commute out of the city every morning. For the first few weeks, I'll be living in a hotel until the housing officer finds me an apartment. She was most surprised when I asked for a house! She said, no-one has a house! Quote
Yentl Anchel Posted September 9, 2012 at 02:14 PM Posted September 9, 2012 at 02:14 PM the only think I can say is that if you wanna buy some old Celine stuff for a really good price, you should go to Lucky Records located at 66 rue de la verrerie. If you go by metro exit at Hôtel de ville walk up to rue de Renard take a left at rue verrerie.. and you're there...
