Howdy! :)

Just wondering if there are many Irish on the site! It's quite hard to come across a Celine fan here in the Emerald Isle! (Unless you're a middle aged woman  )! Not even the gays like her here! I've met about two Celine fans on the scene here! Shocking, I know

A gay leprechaun. My, my. How interesting :) I think I know one other gay leprechaun around here and he just started posting again. I'm sure you've seen him already

I have a request for you Irish people :P I study Celtic Languages and Culture in The Netherlands, and last year I had the chance to learn Irish for two months. But due to lack of money the course got cancelled, so my Irish has been declining ever since. Is there anyone who would like to talk with me in Gaelic, so that I won't forget everything I've learned?

And I'm finally going to Dublin this year!! I have never been to Ireland, which is really a shame because I know more Irish than most Irish people.. So I'm looking forward to it :) Any tips?

The Leprechaun museum!! It's kinda s must do! Very funny and light way of telling the stories and the story behind Irish folklore.

I'd also recommend:

Christ Chruch Cathedral

Dublin's main shopping streets, Grafton Street

And a walk in St Stephen's Green which is at the end of Grafton Street

Garden of Rememberance at Parnell Square

A drink at Cafe en Seine, 39 Dawson Street

In welk hotel zit je?

It's a studiereis :P So I'm probably in a cheap-#ss hostel with my collagemates ^^ But I will write your tips down :) That Leprechaun museum sounds interesting, as I know most Old Irish stories :P

But I'm so excited to see the National museum and Trinity college, to see the manuscripts we're translating in Old Irish class, and the objects I've only seen in powerpoints from the Irish history class!

(yes I'm a bit of Ireland-obsessed, I know.)

oh yes! Of course you have to see The Book of Kells  that would be most interesting!

Don't think too much of the Leprachaun museum, it's funny, but not diepgravend ;)

I like funny ^^ Especially when it comes to Medieval Celtic Literature, most of it doesn't make any sense. Though Irish tales are a bit less bizarre than Welsh tales.. (just a bit.)

I love the Irish language so much I am planning to talk Irish to everyone I meet in Dublin, just for fun ^^ I am very interested how many weird faces I will get, and if I will find someone who actually speaks Irish :P

I myself can speak very little Irish. I was taught it for over 10years, but in order to fully grasp the language, you must speak it constantly!

Many good places to go in Dublin! But it is a very small city!

Did John really dance an Irish jig? Was it to Je Lui Dirai?

I used to drive my (ex)significant other crazy with this song! I was addicted!

Really? I never really cared too much for the song.... Though it would have been awesome to have had it on the TCWT.... (as it was mentioned in the tourbook)

But it wasnt meant to happen :(

But the ex in significant other is probably the reason u forgot about the song ;)

Not the reason at all! Because our song was On Ne Change Pas, and it still remains my 2nd fav Celine song after Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore ;)

When are you going to Dublin Lian? And for how long?

Trinity College is defo the place for you. The book of Kells is a hugely historical piece of work. But the line to see it can be very long. Temple Bar has good artisan shops and nightlife. I don't think that Dublin Castle is meant to be that interesting.

As Davey and D-M said, not a lot of us speak Irish much. most Irish speakers are in the gaeltacht regions, to the west and south west (Kerry, Connemara, Mayo) Don't expect more than a basic understanding from most of the people you meet. As I have said to you before, I have practically no Irish!

If you travel down to Cork, I will be happy to bring you sight seeing if I am around.

My Irish dancing was actually very good Edwin. Davey was moved to tears on several occasions when I announced I was going to put my dancing shoes on and dance another session for him.

frightened to tears John, frightened :P

Oh you do love showing of your legs, don't you?!

Oh yeah Lian, you have to go to the book of Kells in first thing in the morning. We were there before they opened and already a line was starting... So be sure you do that first thing, cos it'll safe a lot of time.

The Dublin Castle is a no go... we went there, but it wasn't interesting at all, didn't even look like a castle, more like a palace thing :P We didn't went inside tho...

I liked:

Dublin Zoo.

The Guinness Factory.

Apache's Pizza ( nicest pizza on the planet ) its on the main street corner between Christ Church & Temple Bar.

The Shelbourne Hotel, were Celine & Rene first kissed in 1998 after Eurovision.

I highly recommend staying in The Croke Park Hotel, its stunning and right opposite the stadium.

Edit: Female irish dancers always have lovely legs, thanks for sharing the pic :P lmao.

Yes, unfortunetely Irish is a dying language, which is really a shame because it's the most beautiful language I ever heard :P So one day I will visit the Gaeltacht, but I don't have the time nor the money at the moment. But my Irish isn't the best either, so if I meet someone who doesn't speak it very well, it's maybe for the best so I don't have to freak out :P

I'm going at the end of April, for a week :) Last year we went to Cardiff, even when my Welsh is even worse than my Irish, but it was fun!

This college trip is organized some fellow students, so I don't precisely know when we will go to Trinity College, but I'm actually more interested in Lebor na hUidre, and those other, less famous, but for me very important manuscripts :) I'm translating the Lebor na hUidre at the moment for Old Irish.

(and omg I really hate riverdance :P It makes people in The Netherlands think I study a culture full of weird dancing people..)
