Canadian Business Names Celine Second-Richest Canadian Celeb

In a new article from Canadian Business, a leading business publication in Canada, they name Celine as the second-richest Canadian celebrity, behind only Titanic and Avatar director, James Cameron. From the website:

After releasing almost 30 albums of in-studio and live music, the Quebec-born songstress now holds the title of Canada’s bestselling musical artist, with hundreds of millions of albums sold internationally. In March, the singer began a new show in Las Vegas that will run for the next three years at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum. Each time she steps onto that stage, Dion pockets more than $500,000. Last year, the star also made a documentary called Celine: Through the Eyes of the World that followed her first tour in nine years through 25 countries. The film was shown in theatres across North America for eight days."

Do you think those figures are right? Celine 481M and Shania 471M? I don't think so.. Celine has to have much more money than Shania, if not, Rene knows some good tricks for tax evasion

i think Celine has way more money than Shania since Shania is not a better selling artist than Celine, in fact i haven't heard of her for years now! It was only in 1998 that she became popular here in Holland, before that Celine already made fame with great songs, so I don't think she has almost as much money...

The thing with Shania is that while she only released 5 albums, 3/4 of them have gone diamond and one of them is the best selling album by a female artist of all time...

Plus the fact that she has written ALL her songs herself (and Mutt)....which also = a lot of $$$$.

Celine is worth more than half a billion. The cost estimates for her house in Florida are in excess of $60,000,000. I don't think she would spend that much if she wasn't worth more. She also spends like crazy so maybe it's right, who knows??

It is true that Shania wrote all her songs, that's a plus, but I think the real money is in touring right now and Celine is way ahead. It is not that I care who is richest it is just strange for me only 10 millions difference after 10 years of Shania almost complete retirement.

 

I hope Shania is coming back soon, she is been missed too

Yeah, when I saw the Shania quote, I was a bit confused and curious of how they calculated the amounts. If the figure for Shania is right (which I think it most certainly is not - she's probably worth $200 million less), then Celine is worth at least that much more than Shania is worth less, meaning Celine's probably in the range of $700 million. It wasn't disclosed how much her last segment of "A New Day" garnered her, nor do we know for sure how much her merchandise sales are, despite the fact that her perfume collection has sold in excess of $800 million globally. We'll obviously never know the true amount, unless we become her personal financial adviser, but I still thought the link was worth mentioning....it did get a lot of conversation, which I wanted and do appreciate.

They also don't say if that includes Rene's income/net worth. Shania's net worth probably got a boost from her divorce from Mutt. I think he had quite a bit of money. No telling. They don't say what they include or don't include.

Well, Buble's quite new and McLachlan (aside from those horrid commercials for the ASPCA) hasn't really made a large amount of money with album sales and tours. Also, the list isn't exclusive to Canadian musicians, judging from the No. 1 person on the list...James Cameron.

Celine obviously got twice more rich than she was about 3 or 4 years ago which is cool for her. By the way don't think that all the money gained from the fragrances go to her pocket, that's not at all like that. She receives a fixed contractual percentage of the sales income and that values for everything from Vegas to the tours, albums and singles. If she was taking 100% of everything she might have been richer than five Oprahs.

And Shania n this amount should be not so big, she stood for 10 years, and these artists has a life of luxury, spends up.

She didn't "earn" $400m from Vegas, nor $200m from TTCWT - she reportedly pocketed $250m from her first Vegas run and I reckon she will have pocketed roughly $120-$130m from TTCWT.

Shania wrote almost all of her music, so the royalties are huge on something like that. The money just keeps coming in and she's had a lot of popular songs. Some songwriters make much more than some singers but not everyone is a good songwriter.

Shania didn't make more money from her music sales than Celine - even as a songwriter. Celine was pocketing up to 30% of every album sale she sold 1996 onwards.

 

That equates to - on average - a $100m from an era like Falling Into You.
