JCeline85 Posted March 27, 2011 at 04:06 PM Posted March 27, 2011 at 04:06 PM So instead of going from topic to topic discussing all the special effects I thought perhaps we could discuss them just under one topic? So we know there are holograms for the show.. and recently they added a water feature. can anyone explain the water feature a bit more? Quote The Wait Is Over?
~Christian~ Posted March 27, 2011 at 05:00 PM Posted March 27, 2011 at 05:00 PM I'm really curious about this water thing. Can someone tell us about the holograms? Do they look real? Quote

angelil78 Posted March 27, 2011 at 08:40 PM Posted March 27, 2011 at 08:40 PM My mom thought it was Stevie Wonder the whole time hehe so it's good. If you sit in the 3rd mezz, Célines head is cut at the top (you can't see the top of her head). I met Ken Erlich the director of the show and told him about it, so at least they know. He said the holograms weren't perfect yet. Quote
tristan.josef Posted March 28, 2011 at 06:41 PM Posted March 28, 2011 at 06:41 PM they added the water effects?! i was wondering about these when i saw the first two shows and nothing was there and it even talks about it in the program. i thought they had been cut. can someone give details on the water curtain?! tristan.josef Posted March 28, 2011 at 08:17 PM Posted March 28, 2011 at 08:17 PM also in regards to the holograms, they are pretty good. i have sat in the orchestra as well as 2nd mezz from this show so i have seen it from different perspectives. its definitely better the closer you are. yes up on the second balcony celine's hologram's head was cut off....not completely, but her forehead and hair. haha. and i was in the second to last row so i think thats the story with that. from the orchestra it looks great. celine looks very real. the only thing i think is that it's a tad smaller than the real celine. after staring at her for an hour til that point, you can tell the hologram is a little smaller in size than the real celine. i think if they could make it a little bigger (true to life-size) and also fix it somehow so its not cut off for the higher seats itd be even more awesome! as for the stevie wonder one, this one is really neat, too. only thing with him is the piano he's sitting at looks a little less 3-d because of course a piano is much bigger than a person. so that's really my complaint with this one. but still not really complaining because its totally awesome and a really unique aspect of the show. it looks especially cool when celine is standing next to stevie and his piano. i kept wanting her to climb on top and sit on the piano!! hahaha. how cool would that be! the second time i saw the show i was watching to figure it out and figured out how they do the projection for the holograms. id be happy to share my findings if you guys are interested cool stuff! tristan.josef Posted March 28, 2011 at 08:49 PM Posted March 28, 2011 at 08:49 PM it might be a little difficult for me to explain the hologram projection effects effectively in my own words, so heres a video i thought id share. watch this first, and then you can understand my details below a little better: im not sure whether celine uses a sheet of glass or mylar screen or what, but im guessing its the mylar option or something similar, as glass is very difficult to move quickly. when the curtain opens in the show to reveal the hologram, you can see a large black rigging (that looks a light rigging) lowered about half way down on the stage. it doesnt have any lights attached to it, so it is clear this is the piece connecting the top of the hologram mylar or whatever sheet of material they use. this material stretches to a 45 degree angle, and there is a high resolution projector below that projects the hologram imagery up onto the material. because of the angle and material, we the audience see the projected image standing upright. for this effect to work, it is also important for the lighting to be set just right. youll notice there is absolutely no light during the show splashing onto the projection material, as not only would this reveal the secret but also ruin the effect with the wrong/too much exposure. during the second time seeing the show, i blantantly looked for all these pieces to confirm all this, and they are all there. also if you sit high enough and in the right place, look below the hologram image and you can notice the projectors image. it almost looks like a reflection. what you are seeing there is glass of the projector which is why you can see the [smaller] image of whats on the hologram screen below. look for this projector below next time you go if you're interested in that stuff! the angle of the projection material is why the higher-seated audience members cant see the effect as realistically and why in some places parts of celine's image are cut off. to see the entire image, you must be able to see the entire height span of the projection material screen. its all about lights and angles! also, when celine is standing next to "stevie," shed actually be unable to see him...at least in the way the audience does. since the projection mylar or whatever material is angled about 45 degrees going away from the stage rear, (toward the audience) she'd be even with it and thus too far back to see the hologram image like the audience. depending on where she stands, there is a chance she can't see any of it at all, and can most likely only the see the projector's reversed image on the projector on the ground. i used to work for disney and studied all these things...similar types of effects and projection illusions are utilized in disney attractions and shows. granted this is all a much more (expensive) and awesome sophisticated and defined form of this technology for CELINE, but you can see where it gets its roots. you can also look up "pepper's ghost effect" online and see more about illusions and how they got their start. hope this helps some of you who might be interested Quote

maceta_biloxi Posted March 29, 2011 at 01:30 PM Posted March 29, 2011 at 01:30 PM You can tell the holograms are not real, they look a little blurry. Actually for the audience is a huge disappointment when Celine screams "Steve Wonder" people stand up and clap, whistle and even cry after 2 seconds everybody realize it's a hologram and sit down. I still don't understand the water thing, but the visual effect are very cool. During The Reason there are 6 (I think) flowers on the back and they keep changing they look like 3D... they look more real than the holograms. I like the fire at the beginning of the Bond Medley, the projection of the intro over the curtain looks nice and also the projection of the windows/curtains over the curtain, it looks so real. overall, the effects are very cool. I Drove All Night! Posted March 30, 2011 at 09:00 PM Posted March 30, 2011 at 09:00 PM Hologram Céline stays on stage Ok Thanks, I thought a hologram Celine moving through the audience would be pretty much impossible.. but I remember someone saying that Celine moved through the audience without security... which obviously seems like a HUGE safety risk. So I was confused.... which presents another question. Is there security that follows her through the audience? Quote

So I was confused.... which presents another question. Is there security that follows her through the audience? this is about the only venue where she can walk through without security right off her shoulder. her security head (nick) stays in the rear of the aisle. just in case there were any altercations hes not too far away and could quickly intervene. obviously its precautionary, but you'd have to have a lotta guts to grab her or do anything that breached her security...i mean really! its not like she is walking to stage before a concert...she's literally singing as she walks with a spotlight on her and everyone in the theater watching. you'd be a moron to reach out and grab her or try and do anything dumb! also how disrespectful as she's in the middle of performing! i hope no one ever attempts something silly like that or this cool moment could be at danger of being removed from the show. Thank you And Ken Erlich was chatty, said that the hologram wasn't perfect YET (I think he said) so I guess that's why the water hologram wasn't ready in time. Edwin was there when we met Ken, so he might remember everything he said (I've got a bad memory) But it's kinda upsetting that they changed the show so soon. Also someone said (or I read ) that Céline did come in earlier for rehearsals than planned, so maybe because they had a lot of stuff to finish (and didn't make it in time ) Quote
