Celine Superfan Shows Her Un-Dion Devotion

We can’t get enough of hearing about people who are really, really passionate about the things they love, especially when it involves Las Vegas. First, we featured Max, the Caesars Palace superfan. Read more.

Now, we bring you Sarah Celine Dion Whitt. Nope, that’s not a typo. Sarah actually changed her middle name to “Celine Dion.” She even sent us proof.

We first heard about Sarah when we saw her jazzy Celine tattoo. Now, that’s a true superfan.

Celine Dion returns to Caesars Palace on Mar. 15, and we can’t imagine anyone more excited about that than Sarah. She’ll be coming all the way from her home in the U.K. (Nottingham, to be exact) to see Celine onstage at The Colosseum at Caesars.

Behold the Celine superfan awesomeness.

We snagged a Q&A with Sarah, whose love of all things Celine seems to know no bounds.

Pulse of Vegas Blog: What do you do as a day job?

Sarah: I work for a telecom company. I find the job not too bad, and it also funds my Celine habit.

POV: How long have you been a Celine fan?

Sarah: I have been a Celine fan for around 15 years. My son was around two years old at the time, and I started taking him to a “mums ‘n’ tots” group where the children play and the mums get to chat. I made friends with a girl who simply said to me one day, “You need to listen to this cassette tape.” (Yes, it was that long ago.) I borrowed the tape, which was the Celine’s “Falling Into You” album. I remember listening to it maybe a couple of days later and being completely taken with song “Because You Loved Me.” That’s when my fascination kicked in.

POV: Then what?

Sarah: My admiration grew and grew for Celine and when she came to the U.K. in 1996, I was certainly not going to miss my opportunity to see her. After that show (“Lets Talk About Love”), I vowed that wherever this great lady turned up, then so would I. I also started becoming an avid collector of all things Celine.

A tiny fraction of Sarah's Celine collection.

POV: Around that time, Celine took a break from performing. How’d that work for you?

Sarah: It was amazing when she finally came back with the new song/album, “A New Day.” She was back, and how I’d missed her. I then found out about the show in Vegas [during Celine's prior residency at Caesars Palace] and I remembered back to the day I “vowed” to go where she was. I’m grateful she had a show in Vegas, because it was not a place I’d ever thought about visiting, but after my first visit in 2003 to see Celine, Vegas became a place I’ve fallen in love with bigtime. So, I’m thankful to Celine for that.

POV: What was it like seeing Celine for the first time in Las Vegas?

Sarah: I remember crying on the phone to the ticket office, trying to get front row seats. The closest I ever got was in the second row. I never book just one show, in case a show is cancelled for some reason. I then have other opportunities on other nights.

POV: How did you like her first show?

Sarah: The Vegas shows were amazing in many ways. I managed to see her on four occasions. I was blown away by the Celine Boutique and made a point of visiting it every day for two weeks, almost like it was my place of worship. I just loved to be there with the other fans and the music playing.

POV: What’s the story behind changing your middle name?

Sarah: Just how far can you keep going to prove the dedication to someone who you have idolized for a long period of time? How can you go one better than the next Celine fan to show your love? It makes me feel honored to know I have chosen to make her name part of mine. I wanted to change my first name to Celine, but my son, who is almost 17 now, objected to it, so I decided I would make it my middle name.

POV: And how about that impressive tattoo?

Sarah: The tattoo came out of the logo for the new show. I thought the design of her name was gorgeous and would look so pretty.

Not sure if Sarah's house has a Celine Wing, but it probably should.

POV: Should we assume you’ll be seeing Celine’s new show?

Sarah: I’m already booked to see Celine this year in August, and I am so excited!

POV: To put this as delicately as possible, do people in your life think you’re kind of nutty?

Sarah: The people around me think I’m mental. I once joked with my husband that the day he married me he also married Celine. I just love telling everyone how I feel about Celine, and now I have her name. I’m the one at work who everyone gets fed up with announcing every bit of Celine news there is. New show, new songs, new twins. But they know they have to listen, because I won’t shut up until they do.

POV: What else are you into?

Sarah: You mean there’s more to life than Celine?

POV: Any other fun superfan things you can share?

Sarah: Well, I have a piece of The Colosseum stage. When Celine finished her last residency, they chopped the stage flooring into pieces and sold it. Also, when I buy Celine books, magazines, DVDs or CDs, I always have to buy them in every single format available, and buy more than one of each, so I can use one and keep the other all wrapped up safe.

POV: What would happen if you ever actually met Celine?

Sarah: If I got to meet Celine, I think I would be utterly gobsmacked. So many questions and so little time. I think I would tell her how amazing her voice is. She has, by far, the best voice around, ever. To hear her sing live is incredible. It’s just so effortless for her. The emotion that comes through in the way she performs is unlike most people that I have seen live. She is simply extraordinary. She is a true inspiration and has had a huge impact on my life.

See the singer who has made people like Sarah (if there are any) into superfans when Celine returns to Caesars Palace. Find out more.

ohh that tattoo is really pretty :) I mean, I wouldn't change my OWN name to hers, that sounds odd to me ha, but I would name my little girl Céline in the same fashion Céline did with Eddy and Nelson- her heroes.

I'm engaged and i have already told her that im naming a girl Celine, first of all because i LOVE Celine, but i really have just came to LOVE the name... and it would be pronounced CA-LYNN like the french way

I don't think it's weird at all. Most people name their kids after someone they are inspired by...she could have easily been born with the name Celine Dion had her parents been huge fans like her. Look at the Egyptian man who named his newborn daughter Facebook. I don't think I would have went as far as Celine DION...I think Celine would have been sufficient enough and extremely beautiful.

that is soooooo amazing and awesome. i so what that tatto as well.

look im sorry i think its weird.... i understand that many people dont like their names, but i believe that (and i know many will not agree) the parents should choose the name of their children and i look at it as a slap in the face if the child changes the name...i just feel that way. Now her naming her child Celine wouldnt be bad at all that would actually be great.

I agree! lol a bit creeper-ish but got to love the dedication! :)

If she changed middle name to "Céline" so maybe, but changed to "Céline Dion" is really too much.

I think we're pretty much on the same page here, giving your child Céline's name isn't weird at all for me, I would love for my child to have Céline's name as an inspiration in life. Change my own name to Céline Dion is something I would never do though, just knowing that I love her endlessly in my heart is enough for me.

I thought so too! I wouldn't want it myself, but it looks pretty.

Good for her for changing her name! If that's what she wanted then great, I'm in no position to judge, it's just a name :)
