disadiva Posted January 29, 2011 at 12:41 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 12:41 AM Back in 1998 Celine recorded a song for her then french album S'il Suffisait D'aimer with anOrchestra and it is called Papillon "Butterfly" the track is a tearjerker ballad and Celine hits somegrand notes in the chorus when she says Papillon and again When she says Fou' This song has the same name as Mariah Carey's 1997 Butterfly and is reminicent butnot same since Celine sings in french. Both songs to me are meaningful lyricly and has a message of freedom and light. Witch song do you like more. 1 Quote http://i46.tinypic.com/2nvtcpl.jpg
ladylindsey Posted January 29, 2011 at 01:14 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 01:14 AM Papillon is one of my favorite Céline songs from SSDA It is so beautiful! 1 Quote
Angel2006 Posted January 29, 2011 at 02:00 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 02:00 AM I Love Papillon!!! I would freak if Celine did that song live in her new show!! 1 Quote
RomualdlovesCeline Posted January 29, 2011 at 02:59 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 02:59 AM I don't think Celine would sing that song because the song is very intimate and it talks about how Celine had a hard time expressing her feelings to her public back in the 90s. Celine has matured since then and she is more comfortable in her own skin. I like the song though but it doesn't have any special meaning for Celine's life today. Quote
disadiva Posted January 29, 2011 at 09:28 AM Author Posted January 29, 2011 at 09:28 AM The Song is very beautiful the music behind her voice...gives me goosebumbs. Yeah i can believe that the song had a personal meaning in Celine's life back in 1998 it wasn'tan easy year for her even though she had a huge success with MHWGO. I wonder if someone here can translate the lyrics of Papillon into english. Quote http://i46.tinypic.com/2nvtcpl.jpg
duri Posted January 29, 2011 at 11:04 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 11:04 AM I like Papillon more, it´s very beautiful song, I like many songs from Mariah but Butterfly is not my favuorite. Quote http://www.supermusic.sk/obrazky/80543_Celine%209.jpg
Javito Posted January 29, 2011 at 11:25 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 11:25 AM Of course, Céline's Papillon! Again, here we are before an amazing song with an impressive orchestral background that has been disregarded, but its a jewel in her french career Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Dionesque Posted January 29, 2011 at 11:37 AM Posted January 29, 2011 at 11:37 AM Well, posing such question on this forum is kinda offensive, lol, would you expect people to say "Mariah"? Maybe one of 20 or one of 50 would say so, lol. I like Mariah song but of course Céline's is light years better and that's even though this is not my fave song. I love intimate songs but for me "Je crois toi" is so much better than "Papillon" when you think of "SSDA" album. "Papillon" seems quite boring to me, esp. if I'm not in the right mood for that songs but the vocals are indeed amazing! But what's that "rare song" all about?? It's not a rare song, neither of the two, lol. A "less known Céline song" would put that better to me. Céline74 Posted January 29, 2011 at 12:57 PM Posted January 29, 2011 at 12:57 PM (edited) I totally agree with Dionesque, "Je crois toi" is sooo much better. "Papillon" is a good song but if i had to choose i would listen to "Je crois toi" all day long. But we all have our favourites. wjd Posted January 31, 2011 at 10:48 PM Posted January 31, 2011 at 10:48 PM Papillon gives me goosebumps, like somebody said its the music behind her voice that commands such attention. I mean how can you EVER dispute her voice, with performances like this? I love Mariah's Butterfly too, probably more than Papillon, but both are awesome! ferjaacu Posted April 22, 2011 at 02:50 PM Posted April 22, 2011 at 02:50 PM Well, they are both amazing songs, and I think my answer is gonna be the obvious one... Papillon !! I love that song... And Celine sounds amazing singing it. The high notes, the low notes, belting, singing the soft parts... It's so beautiful... Love it !!! 1 Quote http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3216/5786913948_369265dbeb_m.jpg FERLO

sfbaysinger Posted April 24, 2011 at 02:50 PM Posted April 24, 2011 at 02:50 PM I did not know that butterfly was the English translation...Most people don't know about me that before Celine was my all-time idol, Mariah was first. She's the one who, at least for a time until I shut them again, opened my eyes to wanting to be a singer. Se did great at her version of Butterfly, although this is a bittersweet song as it began to herrald her going downhill, but anyway...I love both songs but Celine's is so pretty I never skip it when it comes on! sfbaysinger Posted April 28, 2011 at 06:21 AM Posted April 28, 2011 at 06:21 AM Guess I didn't make it clear enough that i knew they were two different songs, but did not know Mariah wrote that because of separating from Tommy Matolla. I do know that was difficult for her, but things have turned out well for her as she has a baby now from the little I understand as I do not follow her any more. Thanks though for the clarification!
