Bulgarian Cellist to Play with Celine Dion

 

Irina Chirkova is a new cello in Celine Dion’s bandThe cello in the show of the Canadian pop legend Celine Dion will be played by a Bulgarian Irina Chirkova. Celine has handpicked a small string band for a series of concerts in Las Vegas. The concerts will be staged in the Cesar’s Palace hotel starting mid-March. According to a lucrative contract, Dion will put on 210 shows within three years; 31 musicians will accompany her. The Bulgarian cellist has been living in the United Staes for over ten years. She has graduated from the Boston conservatoire and is now teaching cello in several musical schools. Irina Chirkova has played together with Pi Didi, Kanye West and has recently taken part in a new solo album of Sully Erna, vocalist of the Godsmack.

“I did want to play but in Bulgaria offered only limited opportunities. Maybe things have changed for the better now but years ago it was very difficult to make your way up. After the first year in Sofia Conservatoire I decided to move somewhere. I applied for the Boston Conservatoire just for the sport of it but won a scholarship,” Irina recalls.
