Kyle_Jared Posted January 16, 2011 at 04:09 PM Posted January 16, 2011 at 04:09 PM Celine was on fire in 96-97 with this monster album, and 'striking' while the iron is hot of course is key. Coming off of three huge singles and all top tens on the Billboard Hot 100 (Because you loved me #1, It's all coming back to me now #2, and All by myself #4), personally I think a 4th single should have been released to the North American market. Europe got "Call the Man". In Canada and the states it stopped after "All By Myself." Any thoughts as to why this happened? and if a fourth single had to be released what would have done the best in this market? Personally, I think "Seduces Me", could have been a pretty big hit in the states or even "Call the man". Thoughts? Quote

Javito Posted January 16, 2011 at 05:04 PM Posted January 16, 2011 at 05:04 PM Please, give this album a rest... yes is great, but it already had the greater number of singles worldwide What this album started in terms of wide and big promotion should (and could) have been continued with LTAL, All The Way and above all, ANDHC. But they just simply didn't do many efforts. Gert over it... Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Dionesque Posted January 16, 2011 at 05:20 PM Posted January 16, 2011 at 05:20 PM I love "Seduces Me", "Make You Happy" would make a good single probably. But what does it change for today?... Matias Posted January 16, 2011 at 07:10 PM Posted January 16, 2011 at 07:10 PM Celin e was "discovered" by so many people (including me) around 1996, so she was the big sensation back then, because her singles from FIY ( IACBTN and BYLM) were huge success, and then she won album of the year. She was on a roll back then, she now has a name of her own, and like she says "has nothing to prove anymore" so...maybe she, Rene & team got a little bit lazy over the years.... wjd Posted January 17, 2011 at 05:11 AM Posted January 17, 2011 at 05:11 AM Back in 1996, there was no such thing as a digital market, and the only way you could listen to music was on the radio (if a song was pushed as a single) or a physical single, if a song was released as such. Record labels repressed single sales, for the sake of selling albums - simple fact is that you got more from one album sale than 5 singles in 1996 (the average single cost about $3, and the average album around $15 in 1996). So by not releasing many singles, which has always been the case for Celine - she's always had on average 3 singles released from each English album - her label were maximising the album's sales. And its a strategy that worked well. 31m copies sold, and counting. You cannot grumble Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
Xpresso Posted January 18, 2011 at 12:36 AM Posted January 18, 2011 at 12:36 AM Always thought they should have released SEDUCES ME! And that's what she should have sung on the Grammy Awards instead of All By Myself (another cover)... Quote

Esty Posted January 18, 2011 at 08:52 AM Posted January 18, 2011 at 08:52 AM Wasn't FIY released as a single? There's even a video... So it wasn't released in North America then? It's a shame because it's a fabulous song. It would have been successful there. Quote
RebelRebel Posted January 24, 2011 at 09:14 PM Posted January 24, 2011 at 09:14 PM Because it didn't need more singles. AFAIK it's like the tenth best selling album of the last 20 years (since sales are officially counted) and to achieve that with 3 singles is astonishing. I guess the label stopped after 3 singles because they knew FIY would be a big catalog seller and I assume the recurrent airplay of the 3 singles was so big that radio wouldn't have jumped on a 4th single, so not only it wouldn't have reached the top 5, but its overall effect wouldn't have been significant. If the 3 hits didn't make a person buy the album, most likely no other song would have convinced them otherwise. It wasn't about pleasing the fans, but to get the most out of an album with as less cost as possible. With Let's Talk About Love it was more obvious, they knew no song would get as much attention as MHWGO, so it got a radio-only single in TLYM but it wasn't nearly as big as MHWGO. Quote

wjd Posted January 26, 2011 at 03:27 AM Posted January 26, 2011 at 03:27 AM Falling Into You, like most 90's studio albums from the big divas, is an astonishingly poor catalogue seller, and was so from as early as 1999. The album only sold 1m+ in two years (1996, and 1997) - it then plummeted to below 7 figures. Nowadays, the album shifts less than 4,000 copies each year. Pop albums usually die when a greatest hits record comes out and has the hits that still get the recurrent airplay etc. Of course nowadays old albums in general barely sell because of iTunes and illegal downloading so it's a moot point, but in the 90s there was no need for a 4th single. And yes, AFAIK is 'as far as I know'. I did check and it's indeed the 10th best selling album of the SoundScan era with sales of 10,781,000. Quote

Dionesque Posted January 27, 2011 at 03:07 PM Posted January 27, 2011 at 03:07 PM (edited) I agree with you, RebelRebel, we now live in a different, "digitalized/internetized" times so we can't compare today's reality to that of the 90s and we can't complain about old albums not selling well. But, on the other hand, nowadays we can buy those old albums (no matter what artist is involved) on a very low prices on amazon or at retailers such as Saturn, MediaMarkt, Fnac and so on, there are numbers of very pricy offers in the recent year. Personally, I bought pretty a lot of old albums by different artists (from the 80s and from the 90s) just for that very reason. Back than, when those albums were relased, they were way too expansive for me but now I can finally add them to my collection, even if I've already downloaded an illegal copy in the meantime... That's true, if you look around you can find cheap albums, but at this time and age not many people do that anymore, they don't actually need the physical product since it "takes space" and even dedicated fans a lot of times just buy the CD, rip the audio and never use the CD again so it's really not that surprising... JasonFromTheMoon Posted April 6, 2011 at 04:20 PM Posted April 6, 2011 at 04:20 PM I remember going to a music store at the beginning of my hardcore era (1999), right after I bought All The Way. I asked the seller what of Celine's albums should I take next and he said "Take Falling Into You, that's her best album ever!", but at the end I preferred Let's Talk About Love and I was not sorry after when I actually bought FIY as well. It has an amazing mixture of styles and tempos, but I'm sooooooo into balladry, so LTAL was much more appropriate for me and still is in my TOP 3.About another US single from FIY I think an R&B remix of Dreamin' Of You with a video would be #1, but let's think about the future, past is past Quote Welcome to the "Loved Me Back To Life" era!http://s10.postimg.org/j8wfwy3ah/Fotor0101825542.jpg
