recently I just saw some youtube videos of Falling into You Tour

In compare of TC tour, I feel the extreme passion from celine,her Background Vocals and crowd. :clap:

It seems that celine is not that popular anymore :pinch:

I agree, even though I wasn't very old during the FIY Tour Era and didn't know about Celine, but I agree with Celine Fan 77, she's still very popular, it's just that the industry has been changing. The TCWT is the 2nd top grossing tour by a solo-artist! It's sad though how most people seem to think that Celine has gotten really old and isn't famous, when it's really the opposite.

Honestly i could care less if Celine is popular by "Industry standards" or by the "general public" I will always love Celine :xmas_w00t:

And further more the artist that are popular or that are considered "IN" or relevent in todays music industry can not hold a candle to Celine Dion voically :xmaswhistling:

It's kind of like she don't have to prove herself anymore. She's worked very hard over the years to get where she is at. She deserves that kind of "diva" status. She is still popular though. I think a lot is because TC wasn't promoted properly... :ermm:

She definitely is a diva, but IMO she is so much more than that - she is an icon, a legend, a goddess - the greatest female vocalist ever, never to be matched, or surpassed. Just an incredible, incredible PERSON.

She's been at the very top, from there you can't reach any higher. Some artists that gets really big make it there and stay there for about a year, maybe a few more if they're lucky, then someone else comes along and takes the place. And as Céline has been there she doesn't have to prove anything anymore. Céline is special, she'll become a legend. :thumbsup2:

I can't say much about 1997 because I was still very young, but it's true that she was very popular back them. Even though it's a bit disappointing, it's normal. She's still very popular, there's no doubt about that even if her career is more fragile than ever..

I understand what you mean about that... but I only went to one concert and only see footage of small amount of the rest of the tour, but I also think that her hits (TPOL, IACBTMN, BYLM, TLYM, MHWGO, etc) were brand new and weren't 10 years old she was just simply "bigger" to see back then... That's the only reason I can think of for your question...

I would still go any day any decade to see Celine. :wub:

I will never come over the sad fact that I couldn't go to any concert of her in the 90s, esp. before "MHWGO" era as I'm a fan since 1993 but back than I lived in a different financial circumstances + first I was to young to travel abroad for a concert anyway... I would die to turn back time and be at one of the concerts during the first European tour in 1995 (esp. in France!) or during FIY tour! :wub:

As for Céline's popularity, I agree with some of you here that for me personally I couldn't care less as for mainstream, populatity among "regular" people and the "industry" etc.!

I will always love her and nothing will change that - no matter how much high or low she fells on charts. :heart:

But I feel what many of you refer to, how Céline seems to be less popular. I say "seems", because you know the best that according to album/concert tickets/DVD sales it's not true.

You are probably mainly refering to the fact, that we don't hear/see much Céline in mainstream media, at least not outside France or Québec. Here in Germany for instance, our local radio stations rarely play Céline's songs. One station that is aimed mainly for young audience seem to ignore Céline at all. The others, more aduilts-stations play only a very small range of her songs (MHWGO, One Heart and maybe 1-2 others). Where I really often happen to hear Céline's songs is our local supermarket, lol! ;P

But I don't care much for that. And if you think about it, Barbra Streisand is even less present in the media, practically the only song of her played in mainstream radio stations is "Woman In Love" which is over 30 years old. Still, her albums sell very well too and her concerts are highly anticipated. Wish I could see her live one, I missed her 2007 European tour and nrobably there won't be a 2nd chance, sigh...

In one hand I don't like comparing Céline to any other artist but if she has to be compered, I would compare her career and popularity to that of Barbra's. They are both living legens, both have stunning voices and both are not much present in the medias nowadays, at least not in those aimed to young audience. Still they keep on doing their job, they don't change much in their styles and they stay way beyond one-hit wonders and wannabe-divas. :wub:

I do wish i was older, because I missed Celine in the 90's... And I think I would have gone crazy when the 'my heart will go on' phenomenom hyped up as Celine was everywhere = heaven :-D

Wow, NancyxxM, that's so cool to see Céline has such young fans like you! :clap: So indeed it's not true that she appeals only to adults/older people, haha!

And you were born in a great year in Céline's career, oh my, hihi!

I remember vsiting France for the first time in 2006 for a students exchange with my class and I've totally gone nuts there as for me it was like Céline heaven there! :wub: She was in few magazines while I was there, there were tons of her cassettes and CDs in the shops and I even bought some cute large size concert photo in a shop in Paris! :wub:

At that time she was almost unknown in my home country (Poland) so you can imagine how I felt in France, haha!

And how much I got stuck at the TV following UK Top 40 charts on MTV UK in 1995 when "Think Twice" was competing there with Annie Lennox "No more I love you's".... Oh boy, those were the days.... I really got into it, I was cheeering when "Think Twice" topped and I was literarly sad when Annie Lennox took over the lead...

Ever since "Think Twice" remains my all time fave of Céline's English-speaking songs! :heart:

while it's true that celine is a legend and the TC tour was one of the most successful in history..the original poster has a point...I don't think celine needs to prove herself anymore..BUT..it's very rare that you'll have the kind of audience reaction that you had during the FIY tour where most of the audience was singing along LOUDLY to BYLM or with the LTAL tour with MHWGO.

Sure you have your moments here and there..like in Dublin apparently the crowd sang along to Think Twice..and you'll always have small groups of people singing along, but it doesn't really compare to the fervor amongst her fans during her peak years. She just needs a current megahit and people will be just as enthusiastic as before. That's unlikely she'll have another one at this stage in her career though.
