Celine Dion - Live albums

Hello,

Lately, I've been re-discovering the album Live To Las Vegas. Don't get me wrong, I know that a lot of people hate it, I once did as well but my opinion has been changing. Because if we have to compare all her live albums, this one certainly isn't the worst. Why?

- The cover is just handsome  It has nothing to do with the amateurish "A l'Olympia" and "Au Coeur du Stade"

- Tracklist...come on, we can't objectively deny it : there were 5 new songs (fever, I wish, if I could, What a wonderful world, I've got the world on a string) live + 2 studio tracks. That's just fantastic!

- The sound... outbreathing!

Negative points: some missing songs ( I surrender, AA, Seduces ME). When it comes to the voice, well, it isn't as bad as it's hated for. Nature Boy, What a wonderful world (the last note is :in_love: ), Fever (a bit nasal but still), If I could are magical. I'm alive is the real vocal MISTAKE!!

Live A Paris isn't vocally that perfect too (she was sick and her voice is a bit fragile, not confident). Only Quand on n'a que l'amour worths buying it (tracklist is so ...D'eux-ish, nothing interessant). Au coeur du Stade had an awful sound and its tracklist (with only 11 songs!) too poor (the medley is the only good thing in that album).

With a tracklist varied, great vocals and real exclusivities, A l'Olympia is the best!

Your opinion?

I can't believe what I'm reading. You prefer LILV over LAP & ACDS?? :chair:

How can you say she was sick in LAP? Her vocals were in top shape there - have you watched LBDB? And you find the D'eux songs boring?!?

I tried to listen to Live in Las Vegas 2004 but it's too nasal for my taste; I think TCWT Live CD is WAY better, at least the songs are more interesting; however, the best live album IMO is Live a Paris 1995 then there's the Au coeur du stade live cd. and I like the unreleased Live in London 1996 CD too.

edit: i forgot about a l'olympia; this one is my favourite

How can I say she was sick? It's not like I'm making up... she really was. And yes, I'm not fond of D'eux, sorry. But I wasn't talking about that, just that tracklist of D'eux / LAP are almost the same;

The Live in Las Vegas album….confuses me. I adore the album cover. And I wish Celine's vocals lived up to such great packaging!

It was with this album that I realized Vegas might be too much on Celine. When I heard the first few lyrics of Because You Loved Me….I was flabbergasted. N A S A L

But there are phenomenal Celine moments - even though her voice sounds so incredibly nasal during most of the show.

Overall, I don't hate the album. There are enough redeeming qualities to make me somewhat happy. But I thinks she could have been in better vocal form when they recorded this album. I hate this this CD documents the Vegas show vocally. Not a great representation.

Well if you show me some evidence to suggest she was sick then I might believe you.

And LAP was part of the D'eux tour, so it's only seems right that she performs lots of songs from this album!

Evidence? That's in one of her 2 biographies , don't remember which one but I think it's not "my life, my dream".

Sick in Live À Paris??? Then how she was in LILV?? Almost dying vocally??

The fact she sounds nasal doesn't mean she was out of tune or so. Moreover, she always sounds nasal... listen to "le ballet" live @ Memphis or the UNISON tour , that's as nasal as LILV. And concerning powerness, we will never know as all "hard" songs in A new day were playback so...

And if you listen to What a wonderful world , she did nuances she couldn't do anymore in TCWT ( i.e : my love).

In any case it seems that all the glorious nuances she could do in LAP or the Olympia concert are gone long ago today. Unless you call nuances to all those crazy high notes she does today (It's A Man's World for example), which in that case, you have plenty of those today then -_- But just because she can do higher notes these days that does not mean she sings better (to ME. For other fans here, I've observed they're absolutely delighted with them).

In the past, Celine used to panick for any little cold she has because her voice must always be on top shape; she maybe had a little passing cold so she felt she wasn't 200% good but sure she was great that night on Live a Paris :thumbsup2:

She can't do higher notes these days. That goes for head and chest voice.

Incorrect. The note you posted was a mixed Bb5.

She equaled that in Le Ballet with her Bb5's (mixed). She surpassed it in a studio warm up with a C6 (head). I'm pretty sure she had other C6's in LCMM. And she had other warm ups where she hit Eb6 or D6.

She also surpassed it in her performance of Everybody's Talkin' My Baby Down where she hti B5 (head) and equaled in Fly on Oprah, Bb5 (head).

She also either hit or surpassed it in a performance of D'abord C'est Quoi L'amour. Not sure which, but I knew it was at least Bb5. Maybe B5.

It's not all about freaking HIGH NOTES! It's amazing how people are ONLY interested in the high notes. Her voice was WAY better in the 90s, in 2002,03 than in the 2004-2010 era. Her Live in Las Vegas 04 was all nasal. Listen to Fever; it's like she's singing from her noose. The only thing that bother me today is the frequency of her voice not being in shape whereas in the 90s, RARELY did she have a average or below average. High notes today lack the complexity and sweetness that she had in her voice back in the 90s; but, I don't mind her high notes though but the quality of her High notes were better in the 90s that's all

Her ''Live In Las Vegas CD'' was recorded in September/October 2003 but released in 2004. What we hear on this live album is her voice from the second half of 2003 not from 2004.

I like her voice no matter what, even in The You Looked At Me, that sounds that she was going through a cold, it's just amazing.

It is true that her voice is not what it used to be but still she can do pretty amazing things with it, so for me it doesn't matter.

I do seem to recall Celine had lost her voice and the doctor "cured" her temporarily so she could do the shows - as they were filming they didn't want to pospone etc. :hmm:

Must admit i've missed the tours she used to do, when the majority of the concert was from the current album. But things change when you've been around so long i suppose.

The "Live In Las Vegas" album is awful. It's such a shame that after a record breaking 5 year run with a show that created history, this is the album we are left with to remember her first show in Vegas.

Thank goodness for the DVD.

I can't say a lot of things about Céline Dion En Concert because I still don't own that album, altough it seems to be one of her greatest performances; anyway, I can't say anything about this particular record yet.

About Céline Dion à l'Olympia, I was really surprised (in a possitive way) because of her majestic voice in that concert. I loved all the performances from the Dion chante Plamondon album in that concert. I also liked the way the band played the instruments on Where does my heart beat now (yes, I know Celine lipped the song). My favourite performance from that album is the opening with Des mots qui sonnent, really energetic.

The Live à Paris concert was recorded about one year after the one at the Olympia, so Celine's voice is pretty similar to her previous live album, altough the Le blues du businessman performance from this concert (which unexlpainably was not included in the CD) is much better in my opinion. I also loved the emotional opening with J'attendais and the Destin and Quand on n'a que l'amour performances.

Vole was also majestic and extremely emotional.

The Falling into you Concert featured in the promotional Live in London album was probably one of the greatest shows from the tour; I particularly love the Only one road (she should have sung the whole song), The power of the dream and All by myself performances. Her voice here was clear and strong.

I can't regret anything about Au coeur du stade Live CD; it features one of the most succesful shows from the whole Let's talk about love World tour (the sold-out concerts at the Stade de France in Paris). I love her emotional speech about René's health, Je sais pas, the acoustic medley, Let's talk about love and Dans un autre monde.

A new day... Live in Las Vegas is one of the few official live recordings we have from A new day..., and I'm glad they included that show, altough it might not be exactly one of the greatest concerts of her career because of the vocal techniques she used during the show (specially turning her voice to nassal). But I love the Nature boy, At last aand What a wonderful world performances.

Earlier this year, Celine surprised us with the release of Taking chances World tour: The concert, featuring her Taking chances Concert in Boston during the Summer of 2008. About the 100% live songs from the show (Taking chances (yeah, I know, except the high note), All by myself (same as before); Eyes on me, Shadow of love, Fade away, Because you loved me; The Prayer; Pour que tu m'aimes encore, I'm alive, My love, the Tribute to Queen Medley, I got the feelin', It's a man's world, Love can move mountains and River deep, mountain high) were all great and perfectly showed the changes that Celine's voice went through during the tour. The song that I don't really like from this album is Pour que tu m'aimes encore (I love the song but this was probably the worst live version ever).

About Tournée mondiale Taking chances: Le spectacle, I'd like to say that I loved the exclusive French performances, specially Destin and L'amour existe encore. It's a shame that the out-of-this-world high notes during Je sais pas weren't included. But still an amazing live album!

I have a feeling OOR was lipped. Her voice sounds slightly different to the other live songs. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a playback from the TCOML tour, but shortened for the FIY tour just like the WDMHBN and IYAMT playbacks...

Yeah, I have that feeling also, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway I love that song and it's the only live recording we have of it from a tour, so we can not assure it was lipped.

Here's the bit about Celine losing her voice 2 days before the LAP filming - taken from My Story,My Dream.

Ok so Celine wasn't sick DURING the LAP taping; her vocal cords fell 2 days before the show and regained her voice intact just before the show. All in all, she was at great health during the show...
