Philippe Dunnigan will be the solo violin in the orchestra that will accompany Celine Dion for her new show in Las Vegas from March 15, 2011.

First contact in Las Vegas

 

On October 12th and 13th, the first round of string auditions was held in Las Vegas for Celine Dion's upcoming production. It was an opportunity for Philippe Dunnigan to discover the fabulous city of Las Vegas and the "Colosseum" concert venue at Ceasars Palace. He also met with his old friend Claude "Mego" Lemay  and legendary Producer Ken Ehrlich.

End of the strings auditions

 

After auditions in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Celine Dion's string orchestra is now a reality. The audition committee of Claude "Mego" Lemay, Ken Erhlich, Yves Aucoin, Denis Savage and Philippe Dunnigan is now confident that it will provide the cherished Pop Diva with a first class orchestra.

Thanks for these updates Adrien, good work. I'm okay with Sebatien being gone I think. He was a good violinist, but I never connected with him that much. And, yes, hopefully TLYM is going to get a respite for this show now. But the fact that they need a solo violinist, when they have the orchestra as well, leads me to wonder if the dreaded medley is still in there somewhere?

100% live, accapella or whilst juggling fruit, I don't care, I want this medley out! Individually I love the songs, but it's time to give something else in her repetoire a chance to shine.

I wouldn't mind "To Love You More" being part of the set list either, so long as it's performed in its entirety LIVE. I feel the same about "Because You Loved Me" and "It's All Coming Back To Me Now." I'm fine with them being part of a set list, but only if they are performed in their entirety. There are many other songs Celine has that would best be suited for medleys.

To me, it wouldnt feel right without these songs. J man, To love you more is a great song, and we all know every song will sound different now there is this celine against musicians, so much more sounds, will be great, and great for a live album!

Tnx for the info But where is it mentioned he's the "solo violinist"? He's going to be the leader of the string orchestra. But Jean-Seb is still in the band and will still play the violin.....don't worry

Remember also that a "solo violinist" is used in the prelude to "My Heart Will Go On", the James Horner instrumental piece "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave" which may also be featured in the show. I'd love to see a full orchestra playing this piece before taking us into "My Heart Will Go On."

 

Anyone getting more and more excited for the show? I'm just imagining some "orchestral versions" of the classics and it really does make you want to hear those songs in a new way.
