I didn't understand the dot com/period thing

cuz in english we use that saying

"im not into politics period'

and period is the same as a dot.

I didn't understand the dot com/period thing

She wantd to say: ''I do not talk about politics, period.'' The period part means ''end of story'' or ''full stop''. A full stop is a dot, so I guess that is why she said ''dot.com''.

I think that is the funniest Celine saying I've ever heard. :sofunny: Everytime I read that I start cracking up. I frigging love her. :in_love: She is sooo adorable!

The dot com interview was hilarious. She meant to say period. I love this woman so much hahaha.

did Celine really say dot com. i dont think she did. i think its the guy who is a comedian trying to create stuff

Oh no, she really did say "dot com" Lindsey22, I remember it well but I didn't find it that weird myself to tell you the truth. Sometimes Céline translates her french thoughts into english. :giggle: I do that all the time. So what? It's part of her charm. In French here we would easily say : "Point à la ligne" instead of saying only "point"(period) to make our statement stronger... Then maybe it was said as a joke(wouldn't be a first). I also find that our french humour is lost in translation(english that is) sometimes.

Anyways, so what? I don't understand the big deal. I'd love to ask this guy : "How is your french?" :hmm:

Edit : I agree Claudette, I also think Céline is adorable!

I LOL'd all through the article, spot on on many ocations. I only became serious, and quite upset I must admit, with the following line “She has this old-fashioned idea of elegance but she’s a bit too much of a hick to pull it off.” I'm sorry but her style has greatly improved lately and she's definately not a hick..

The rest was priceless.

OH and by the way, in Argentina we would say "dot com" at the end of sentences for emphasis. Really. It's a mannerism more than it is slang. I feel so much closer to Céline now!!!

Celine's biggest piss takers all acknowledge that they do it out of affection and that they recognise she is extraordinarily talented.

Anyway you can't have it two ways - to be a gay icon, you HAVE to be a drama queen. Its like the law, is it not? And Celine is one of the biggest gay icons out there

Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

The part I disagree with most is how they say that she isn't honest and sincere [thats how I took it] in things she says, specifically here when she was talking to the boy in Las Vegas and said "Some people have everything…they have nothing” I think that what she said is brilliant and it's true. I know that from personal experiences. I think this interview or whatever was enjoyable and funny and had some true points, mainly not being able to talk better english after so long LOL! I'v always felt that, but it always seems like a little clucking bunch of a$$holes who are feeding off eachother and enjoy being nasty without thoroughly thinking or doing research or whatever on what she says or does or why.

Kathy Griffin was making fuin of her, talking about Rene Charles and she said "He makes my life worth live" and I die laughing everytime, I expect that out of her mouth xD

I agree. I think she's the most honest and sincere celebrity there is.

I totally think Celine is a complete dork! and thats why i love her sooo much! I just love how through all her success she just remains a complete dork and true to hereself. Thats why i have SO much respect for her. In NOOO way is she a diva like some other celebrities. She's the most real/humble/amazing person on earth!!!!

dotcom..got to love it. The way she talks sometimes completely makes me laugh! i just love it. I love it when she says "prince of charm" instead of prince charming. AHHAHA :) shes just soo cute!!!!

(if i remember correctly, when she ssays the "dot com thing doesn't she says "dot... then continues as if she doesn't really know what shes saying, or like kinda as if she realized she should have said period?)

Celine is a breathe of fresh air! :) love her.

i wouldnt say that Celine is a complete dork at all. She can be elegant and beautiful when she wants and she can play practical jokes when she wants and she's poignant and sophisticated too.

That was a very interesting article.

I think a lot of people become very skeptical of Celine because of the fact that she is indeed so true to herself and to others. She isn't afraid to care and show that she cares, and I think that sometimes people get scared of that and think that there's much more crap going on behind all the sincerity and that no person with her level of fame could ever continue to give off year after year, decade after decade. But that's why fans love her so much. That's why I love her so much.

Yes, she's full of drama, but that's only because she shares every bit of her life experiences with the world. She doesn't hide her troubles, her happiness, her wrongs, or her rights. That's why critics are slamming her so much, because they honestly have nothing else to slam her for!

Celine isn't unlike any of the celebrities out there. She's genuine down to every little bit she is made of, and that is why everyone in the world knows her name, that is why she has millions and millions of fans worldwide, and that is why people look up to her. She's not like all the "cool and popular" celebrities out there who have their 15 minutes of fame, but she's here to stay. Take a look. Three decades later, she's still here and the tabloids are still all over her.

Celine is Celine. We love her for everything see is and isn't. :)

i wouldnt exactly say the tabloids are all over her . paparazzi doesnt chase her and her pics are not worth as much like brad pit or any of those celebs.

Well, not exactly what I meant lol. I meant that they're still digging for juice from her. She still matters and not a lot of celebrities maintain that kind of interest in critics and tabloids for as long as she has.

I think, since this interview quite some years old, Celine has definately improved her english, although the accent is still there, but that is also because she and Rene and her children talk in French most of the time! And in terms of clothes she always wears chique designerclothes lately, she looks very classy these days! I actually read this article some time ago and I could remember the picture going along with it.. a funny one, with Laura Landauer:

I totally agree. And also, a lot of these people forget that English is her second language. Although she is very good in English, she does have to give some thought when she's speaking English (you can tell). And so she might say something that sounds very LITERAL (i.e. "Some people have everything...they have nothing.") that doesn't mean that it was a stupid thing to say at all. I took it as, "Some people have all the money/stuff/riches/etc in the world, but inside, they have nothing, they are empty inside." She just said fewer words.

I know that people will make fun of her till the end of time, but boy, it's sad that they have to be so nasty about it.

I wish more people would remember that she's bilingual, and I think it's extremely cheap and mean to make fun of somebody trying to express themselves in a language that's not their mother tongue. And her English has gotten better and better over the years; it's actually quite impressive. Plus, she speaks French at home with her husband and kids, so obviously French is second-nature to her, and English takes a bit more thought. Make sense to me.

Just my two cents.

Best,

Phoebe x

The main reason Celine has so many "haters" is because they can stand that she likes being like she is, she is not traying to be cool, she laugh about herself, she is confident the way she is and happy about it...haters hate that, she never was involved in a diva cat fight or involved in scandals like drugs or abuse or any kind...she is still in top, since the early 90's her empire was built over her talent not BS

Like most of you, I disagree with the whole "she's not honest and sincere" thing. She definitely is - that's what drew me to her in the first place! People are too cynical nowadays.

Phoebekins, I'm totally with you on the language thing. I love all her little English quirks, and I wouldn't want her to suddenly speak perfectly. And this is coming from someone who is a complete stickler for spelling and grammar! I love the "some people have everything, they have nothing..." statement. I understood what she meant right away. I feel if more people looked for the real meaning of what she says, they wouldn't be so nasty.

Everybody who knows me, knows it just boils my water to see people make fun of her. Let's see them do it better. Let's see those jack-asses have a career that lasts 30 years. Like my pottery teacher says, you don't get three-year gigs in Vegas if you suck. Two weeks maybe, but not three years plus!

I really hate people questioning her honesty, I hate people bashing her English, I hate people dyssing that voice that melts me every time I hear her, I just hate it. That article was funny at times, but overall sucked! How f****** dare they!!!!

L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle! :)
