1993 was a big year for both singers, Mariah released Music Box and a couple of months later came The Colour Of My Love. Both became huge massive hits and both had major power ballads, Without You, Hero, The Power Of Love, Think Twice. The two were both going for the same market and were both very successful. An obvious power struggle was now underway. (A bit like the battle between Gandalf and Saruman in The Lord Of The Rings, you can guesss which one is Gandalf i.m.o.)

 

Of course since then Celine has maintained a classy, mature career, while Mariah crafted more of a slapper image, became increasingly shrill and pumped up her cleavage. (She also grew a moustache for the movie Precious)

 

So they actually haven't been contemporaries for about 15 years, but it's still a "rivalry" that exists in the public concious. Especially when it comes to declaring who is the biggest selling female artist of all time on the X Factor.

 

And anyway it's always nice to find new ways to bash Mimi.

They are different, indeed. But they were the 2 best selling and most popular female singers of the 1990s, they both started conquering the USA in 1990 with unmistakable voices and love ballads. They are almost the same age. So it turns out that Celine and Mariah have something in common. Of course, the beginning was 20 years ago, they both have evoluated much since then. But they still remain among the greatest pop divas of all times. I myself think that they should not be compared to each other. No one should ever be compared to another person because everyone is unique.

Because I think they kinda got real famous the same time as each other and both had big voices and did ballads. But to me they are totally different. I dont like Mariahs voice, if it comes on tv or radio, i will switch station straight away, it gives me headache. And i hate Mariahs image also. No interest in Mariah at all!!!!Booo, But we know how i feel about Celine, so we wont go there!!! Sorry Mariah

mariah decided to go with the industry; producing r&b songs that are easily forgotten. Nowadays she looks trashy to me and the same for her songs.. meanwhile Celine is still the classy woman who stayed true to her audience, did not go with the sexy musicstyle of nowadays and still has a lot of popularity. What I cannot stand from Mariah that she cannot sing any note full; i mean it goes up and down - her voice is iiiiii0000000ooooiiiaaa - give her a long note and she will not sing it straigth it will go up and down. But that is her singingstyle. But I don't like the most is the trashy musicstyle that Christina Aquilera does too.. no not my kind!
