I think it's nice that Charice looks up to Celine and uses her as her benchmark but after watching "Though The Eyes Of The World" I can't help but feel Charice was very cold, almost unintersted, towards Celine and was always unappreciative of being in her company. It was Celine who had to make all the effort. It was almost as if Charice expected to meet her and sing with her. Don't get me wrong it's very touching how Celine basically gave Charice her stage (and audience) for "Because You Loved Me" but what was meant to be a duet quickly turned into just Charice singing.

 

I'm probably being wildly unfair basing my entire judgement of Charice on that segment from TTEOTW but that's what I saw in that short piece.

Nope you are not. I totally agree with you. After I've seen it on Oprah I hoped that they would not include it on the DVD, but nooo... You can't even call it a duet because Charice sang the whole song. Celine was very sweet and gave her her few minutes of fame (and that is the Celine we all know and love), but Charice did seem kind of uninterested, but who knows maybe it was just a big moment for her. I know people are gonna bash me for this, but I'm not that fond of Charice's voice either. She tries to hard to sound like Whitney and what is that deep thing she does? I have to say that I like Yun Ito more. I wish they rather showed more of that duet.

 

Edit: I see Davey beat me to the Yuna Ito thing. Totally agree with you. She is way better in my opinion.

Honestly, I wouldn't know who she is. She has sung with a few big names and has been on Oprah a few times, but besides that she hasn't really done much.

Definately agree with you all. Never liked her personality from what I saw on Oprah, but I don't mind her voice. It's nice but like you said she's a Whitney Houston wannabe for sure, and I'm sure she's getting some inspiration form other big female artists as well. She definately took over the song, with her standing a couple of feet in front of Celine. For me, that's not how a duet works, it should be between the two artists, and no one should overshine the other. But it was very sweet of Celine to give Charice that moment on stage. Btw, I've always thought it was Ito Yuna, not Yuna Ito But anyway, she's definately way better IMO. I think Ito Yuna really cares, and thinks it's a big deal to sing with Celine, which I can't see in Charice.

Woo woo woo!!! Wait a minute! Here is the TRUTH... The reason why Charice seemed to be cold towards Celine was that she was very nervous meeting and singing with her as she said in an interview aired in the Philippines. Her knees were shaking and she even cried when they met at Madison. Charice mother tongue is not English, that's why she can't precisely express herself as she would. To think that she was uninterested has no basis at all. And in the duet, Celine told Charice that she wants it be be her song and moment, so she would just be adding notes here and there. So don't take it against Charice!

 

I think we should all be thankful, Charice is a testament how Celine has inspired lots of singers across insurmountable borders. Whatever the success of these singers is ALSO CELINE'S SUCCESS.

 

Lara Fabian took too long to recognize and give Celine her due credit, though it was very much obvious how much she has been influenced by Celine. What I'm saying is that some artists deny or not vocal about idolizing Celine because of the stigma or for some other reason. But Charice when asked always says CLEAR CUT that her ultimate idol is Celine! It's additional endorsement. Do you know an artist who does that?

That's the story behind the clip. She was not disinterested or cold as people seemed. Shaun is correct that her judgment was unfair.

 

I don't like her voice much, I was just defending the truth because I felt that she was under fire with no basis at all. Cheers!

I totally agree with you - Yuna Ito was fantastic, really appreciated the fantastic opportunity Celine had given her. I think it helps that she's Japanese, cos most Japanese people show a lot of respect for others and Yuna is no exception!

 

I'm so glad Celine has recorded a song with Yuna and not Charice!
