Why do you care about a musical celebrity's lifestyle?

Hey everyone,

 

I wanted to address this topic because many celebrities that were known in the 90s have problems in their social/marital lifes and people seem to be bashing/criticising them because of who they sleep with or what they do in their free time.

 

In my opinion, I don't give a damn about what does a celebrity do; for example, I never saw Celine as a role model. I was first introduced to her because of her voice and that she was a BIG deal in Canada back in 1993. I loved her voice, her talent FULL STOP. I never bought her WEDDING PHOTO album or asked to whom she was married and criticised her in any way not before not forever... When a person does his job at giving us great music I just like his work; for example, Celine COINCIDENTLY is a good person and lives a healthy life; I never thought of her life or anything else before I got on this forum (that seem to be TOO intrusive in her private life which I think is NONE of our business). I never liked Celine because of who she is as a person. I mean if Celine goes for drugs GOD FORBID, I STILL have a life and I will continue having a healthy life even if she goes wrong. I don't attach value to what she does with her money or follow her footstep to her marital bed just to know that what's going on. Everyone lives freely in this world and does what he wants to do in his lifetime: either good or bad... I don't care on both sides because it's his will that is at stack not mine.

 

I mean nowadays we are more interested in what is happening in the pants of our celebrities than what songs goes out of their mouth.

For example, TV shows like Access Hollywood that thrashes around celebrities for doing this being that and mocking them around; I think they are USELESS; they don't affect me at all in matters of supporting an artist or not; their just assuming that they "R" perfect which is totally wrong.

 

Secondly, there's the MARIAH/WHITNEY factor; Ok FYI, there were years where Celine was out of the limelight (2005-2007 Baby album/LV people sleeping in her concerts out of boredom it made headlines) I was constantly listenning to Mariah's Emancipation of mimi and I Freaking loved the album; I loved the music the vibe of the album; I never told to myself OH wait a min. I need to check Mariah's Underpants to see if it's clean or not Oh she's doing this she's doing that; I mean I don't expect them to be saints and I'm not a sheep that needs a Farmer's lead.AND I don't wanna even know what they do.

Whitney houston, a great deal in the music industry; Now, all we hear about is Whitney cracking up whitney this that.. I bought her last album and it was GR8!! I can go on to say that it was better than TC from Celine herself . Ok she done crack or she's still doing crack; BUT WHO CARES PEOPLE?

WHO cares?? As long as she won't smock in MY face, why should I be bothered? It's her life it's her FIGHT she's old enough to know what's good for her and what's not good for her.

 

On another note, people tend to make IDEAL Behaviour as ethics we should require from our celebrities and we tend to award them for that; For example, Celine has a great life and FAIRYTale /CLEAN life so most people who go to see her don't even know a single song from her TC album; I sat beside an old lady when I went to Celine's concert she knew only her old HITS but didn't have a clue about the new songs of Celine; indeed they go there because of WHAT she represents: "TRUTHFULNESS", GOOD WIFE etc. I think she's SO overrated by People who go to see her concerts; In fact her CDs (the new ones) didn't do as well as her TOUR which engrossed pretty well. If your CD does not do well on charts basically you don't do an EXTRAVAGANT World tour Around the globe. That means that the ones who went to her concert on her TCWT weren't NECESARILLY the ones that bought her album. This contradicts what her Tours in the past were implied to be = I buy the CD then I go to see the Tour. In Celine's case you can put the blame on her Voice (which is great) or her PURE/CLEAN life that many people. Indeed, Celine was the first out-seller of her Private Life in the public which I was really chocked by it; mostly with her ANDHC booklet family photos; I mean it's cute and everything but I was like KEEP this to YOURSELF I don't want to see your baby or any celebrities' baby for that sake.

 

Don't SELL me Your Life ; I have ONE; SELL me your TALENT/Music

Wow. Ok. I'm the exact opposite of you in regards to this. I'll try to explain.

I love Celine's music and that's what brought me to her- but I love her more as a person. Because I see her as a role model, because the things she says inspires me. Because sometimes when I'm surrounded by people who sleep around and get drunk every weekend, it's nice to know I'm not the only one in the world who has values that say NO to that stuff. Because I love seeing people in love (like her and Rene!) and I loooove babies! That stuff makes me smile and gives me hope everyday. Call it an interest in human beings and their lives, I guess. Anything I want to know about Celine is the same kind of stuff I'd ask my friends about.

That doesn't mean that if Celine turned around one day and started doing drugs, that I would do the same. No way! She certainly does things I don't agree with (e.g. wearing fur, eating meat...) and that has never persuaded me from my point of view at all.

I'm not really one for gossip...I don't read tabloids or watch Access Hollywood every night. What Mariah or Whitney does, that does not interest me. They're talented, I listen to their music sometimes, but that's it. Celine is just one of a few whose lives I do care about. And even if you're not ok with that, she is. She understands why her fans care about that stuff. So it's all good.

A celebrities personality plays a huge role in me liking them. I started to like Céline because of her music, I fell in love with her because of her personality. When she sings, I can feel the passion she has for the song. I think the entertainment world would be very boring if all they gave us was their talent, and wouldn't share anything from their life. For example, I'm a fan of the Pussycat Dolls only for their music. With the exception of knowing the members names, I don't know anything about them. If I was to meet another fan, I don't know what I'd discuss with them. Heck! if I was to meet PCD, I don't know what I'd say. All I could really say is "oh, I love (insert song name)". I do believe that certain people are too focused on celebrities lifestyles and what they do, but I think it's okay that celebrities share portions of their life. Céline has inspired many people because of the woman she is and I think that is part of what makes her a celebrity. Some celebrities embrace sharing their life, and some do not.

 

As far as scandals go. It's hard to like someone who has been involved with one, however I don't hate them. I will still respect them if they do good deeds. For example, I think it's wrong what Bill Clinton did, but I respect him for freeing the journalists from North Korea, as well as other good deeds he did, but because I don't want to turn this into a political thing, I will leave it with freeing the journalists.

I too first got to know Céline because of her music and started to like her and her music, but I think SHE as a person was the reason I fell in love with her. There's no doubt she wasn't a role model for me. Nowadays obviously less than when I was a lot younger, but I'll always look up to her. I find her such a GOOD human being, so warm, generous, humble... If it was only her music that I liked, I wouldn't have "stuck" up for 12 years... But even though she's a role model, I don't want to BE like her and do everything the same, and I wouldn't change my own points of view or opinions on some issues if they happen to differ from hers. So I can't say I care about her lifestyle, I mean everyone has the right to live on their life the way they want to, so I don't really care about the choices she makes in her life, it's her life.. But I must admit if she went to using drugs or whatever (pretty strange to even write about it, I can't even imagine her ever doing that..), my admiration and respect for her would drop.

I'm a "hardcore" fan, she's my biggest idol ever, but I don't go crazy crazy on her. I know the borders.

I'm so with you all on this one! I adore her vioce and music, but she has the personaility too, that makes it so much better. There are many people who can sing so very good, but that's not enough, you gotta be a great person also. So I'm interested in her life for sure! Coz you know, if you like someone, you (et least me) think it's interesting to know what she's doing and what she thinks about different things and thoughts.

Maybe this is just me, but I can feel that in some songs you gotta know a little about her life and what she's gone through to really understand the song. Like think about the lyrics on "A new day has come", that album was made to RC (and the victims of 9/11 of course)

and if you think about the lyrics of that song, I think you gotte know some about her life and her struggle to get pregnant etc. But it's also good that every song means something special to each and every person, she makes it feel like it's my thoughts she's singing some times!

So basically I hate Mariah as a person. But I love a lot of her music and listen to it all the time- and let me tell ya I LOVE The Emancipation of Mimi too! (I'm like this with several artists, by the way) You can not like someone & listen to their music. TOTES POSSIBLE! & to say we care more about what's going on in their pants rather than their music, definitely not. The music is always more important (unless you are Heidi Montag.)

 

 

It's just always an added bonus when you only hear positive things about one of your favorites. Initially I started listening & loving Celine because of her talent. But the reason I come on here and adore her is because there is a great person behind the music.

Ok if I don't like the personality of an artist (actor, singer.. whatever) then I don't think they deserve my respect of their work.

I am not really proud of being so obsessed with Céline Dion and think it's not that healthy. I've tried to "abandon" her personal life and missed the Taking Chances tour ugh!!!

But I've realized that I'm more happy now and again I've made new friends through my obsession so I'm just gonna accept it

I think Lady GaGa is a very pretentious and egotistical person now (fame got to her head big time). But she's still one of my favorite female artists. Why? Her music. Like Lea said, it's just an added bonus when the person is also nice and a good person.

 

Christina Aguilera is a very rude and shadey person in my opinion, but she has a great voice and great music so I listen to her as well. Do I like the person even more if I also like who they are as a person? Of course, but I can listen to somebody and love them as an artist but not like them as a person.

yeah I agree! it starts with the voice, than a great personality behind it is a big bonus!

but there are a few artists in which I am interested in personally! I love Lara Fabian but what she does in her spare time is her problem

 

I agree also on the Lady Gaga comment, I hope her head doesn't get to big, cos it's a big tumble down when you aint loved anymore!

 

 

I liked Madonna too, till about Confessions... after that she and her music started to annoy me... I don't like and don't have Hard Candy nor Confessions, though there are some good songs on it...

I listen to all kind of music, for exemple I really like Madonna, MC*, Rihanna and Lady gaga but I only like their songs. I can't stand the way they think or act (especially Rihanna!) ! Céline is the only singer that I really love as a person!!! God bless her!

Firstly I like the MUSIC and the VOICE.

 

It doesn't have to be a technical brilliant voice (although I do love Mariah, Céline, Whitney, Lara Fabian, Linda Eder and Tina Arena).

But the voice has to touch me (like Madonna or Janet).

 

Writing skills is a bonus (Mariah, Madonna).

 

Stage presence is a bonus (Céline, Whitney, Lara Fabian, Madonna).

 

Being a 'nice' person is a bonus (Céline, Mariah).

 

Being a 'role model' is a bonus (Céline, Madonna).

 

But as some people mentioned above, music is most important. I don't like Whitney as a person, but I keep buying her albums as I love her voice and music.

 

If someone goes 'too far' by hurting people I'd think twice about buying an album.

Like Chris Brown (beating up Rihanna), Michael Jackson (at the time when it was uncertain if he had taken advantage of children)...

I'm glad you mentionned MJ. Well, MJ has not even proven ONCE guilty of anything!! Most people took advantage of his good heart and his INNOCENT love for kids and turned it into their own advantage. They sucked up money out this singer because he was the wealthiest star in the 90s. However, I love his songs; I don't have his CDs because I wasn't born when his CDs came out and my family was more of a Celine-centered fan only. I think that many people mis-interpreted his life and weren't aware that everyone wanted his money so bad they would go into false claims and everything.

 

I did my research on his case when he died; and I didn't find a single claim about him PROVEN guilty; he was always ACCUSED of being guilty but NEVER PROVEN guilty.

 

When you are not proven guilty = you want his money; that's all.
