marc-02 Posted March 6, 2010 at 06:18 AM Posted March 6, 2010 at 06:18 AM 10 Awesome Oscar Live Performancesby Melanie Bertoldi and Ilya Skripnikov | March 04, 2010 1:45 EST "Anyone who lived through 1998 knows that it was the year of "Titanic." The James Cameron-helmed epic made box office history and walked away with nearly all of the top Academy Awards -- including "Best Original Song," of course, for Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." The beloved Canadian songstress performed the winning ballad with a full backing orchestra and appropriately dramatic fog. Dion wore a Heart of the Ocean-lookalike necklace that would make Rose jealous, and her impassioned glory notes satisfied every "Titanic" fan's desire for a blockbuster-caliber performance." http://www.billboard.com/#/events/10-aweso...66.story?page=9 Quote
Celinefanatic07 Posted March 6, 2010 at 07:09 AM Posted March 6, 2010 at 07:09 AM (edited) FINALLY! A news article recognizes her immense talent. nearfarwhereveryouare Posted March 7, 2010 at 01:15 AM Posted March 7, 2010 at 01:15 AM Woooo! I love her Oscar performance of My Heart Will Go On. It's nowhere near her best, but it's still excellent. I still don't understand why her Grammy Award performance is so highly praised. In my opinion it's one of the worst performances she did of the song in the 90s. The high notes were shaky and uncertain. Her Rosie O'Donnell one is the best. Quote

Celine had sung that song dozens of times by that point, and surely if someone had told her 5 minutes before the show that she was singing MHWGO, she'd be prepared? She didn't have to learn anything or prepare a performance. The orchestra might have had a job of learning it perfectly at the last minute, but other than that? She could have done a lot better vocally. Quote
RLAAMJR. Posted March 7, 2010 at 03:03 PM Posted March 7, 2010 at 03:03 PM Celin's performance should be number 1 Quote
Celine Fan 77 Posted March 7, 2010 at 03:04 PM Posted March 7, 2010 at 03:04 PM That performance at the 1998 Oscars has always been one of my favourites of her! Such a powerful voice there Quote Tournée Européenne in Paris (December 1, 2013)Céline Dion Live 2016 in Antwerp (June 20, 2016)Céline Dion Live 2017 in Birmingham (July 27, 2017)
marc-02 Posted March 7, 2010 at 04:00 PM Author Posted March 7, 2010 at 04:00 PM i think what made the oscar performancenot only technical stuff about her voice.. but also the whole mood.. the whole orhrchestra, "fake fog" that the article talked about... and the whole hype at this point.. this was the time that titanic fever was really peaking.... Um, no it wasn't. She sang the song on the Rosie O'Donnell Show on November 18, 1997 just like the other person pointed out. Her performance at the Oscars was on March 24, 1998. fabtasticfoo Posted April 17, 2010 at 08:05 AM Posted April 17, 2010 at 08:05 AM I did not love that performance. I thought the orchestra was pretty terrible. They were playing the song so slowly, and it felt like Celine was battling their tempo the whole time. The notes were good, but it never gelled. I Knew I Loved You, The Prayer, and I've Finally Found Someone were all way better performances, in my opinion. I would have definitely picked I've Finally Found Someone to recognize. That was such a dramatic moment, with the substitution at the last second, and Celine absolutely nailed the song. It was just perfect. Quote

That was such a dramatic moment, with the substitution at the last second, and Celine absolutely nailed the song. It was just perfect. The orchestra was freaking horrible. They did not know how to play the song correctly. Celine was forced to hold her notes longer in order for the tempo to match her vocals. I thought her voice was amazing, but the orchestra really screwed up, (not to mention the idiot that went flat with the Irish tin whistle at the bridge).
