celinerific Posted February 27, 2010 at 04:59 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 04:59 PM (edited) This is terrible. There are earthquakes everywhere. First Haiti, now Chile. I heard that Southern Japan had a 7.1 mag earthquake a few days ago too. 2012 doesn't look so mythical right now. I Love You Posted February 27, 2010 at 06:39 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 06:39 PM That is aweful, There are tones of Earthquakes going off lately. Quote
PatrickDion22 Posted February 27, 2010 at 07:54 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 07:54 PM (edited) The earthquake was 500 times stronger than last month's Haitian earthquake, which is incredible. According to CNN, 147 people are confirmed dead in Chile, and tsunami warnings are posted throughout the whole Pacific basin, from Hawaii to Japan, to Australia. There are also advisories for California, Washington, and Oregon. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/02/...dex.html?hpt=T1 God bless all the victims and I hope people in the tsunami warning areas have evacuated already. This is so horrible. Edited February 27, 2010 at 07:55 PM by PatrickDion22 Quote Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/patjsully

PatrickDion22 Posted February 27, 2010 at 08:15 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 08:15 PM The earthquake area doesn't have many people live there? I hope there are not many people dead. Umm, I don't know what you mean. There are around 7.5 million people who live around where the earthquake struck, including 5.3 million in Santiago, the nation's largest city. So, yes there are many, many people affected by the quake. The reason why there are relatively few people dead, compared to Haiti, is because Chile is much better prepared for quakes and has a much better infrastructure, economy, and mitigation system. Still, 147 deaths and counting is still utterly horrible. Quote Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/patjsully

My aunt is in Maui right now.. she said they have evacuated up high to the mountains. I completely agree with you, E! 2012 should be taken a little more seriously While this is of course very tragic and horrible that another major earthquake happened right after the Haiti one, it has nothing to do with 2012. It's just a coincidence, well not even a coincidence really since earthquakes do happen and are just a "natural" phenomenon, although very bad for us. But I just personally don't believe in anything "supernatural", so I don't believe in the predictions about the world coming to it's end in 2012 (I mean I don't believe anyone could have predicted that like hundred or thousands of years ago or so) and therefore I don't see a link between what's happening now (the earthquakes) and 2012. Don't you worry about it either. Still absolutely tragic the earthquake! Hopefully in the end there won't be as many people found dead as in Haiti. Although I don't want to be asinine, do we think that there will be a telethon for Chile and maybe even Hawaii? And do we think Celine might participate? For example, Hawaii is 15 hours from Chile, Japan more than 21 hours away from Chile. Edited February 27, 2010 at 09:51 PM by remykyes Quote New Signature Coming Soon!

I completely agree with you, E! 2012 should be taken a little more seriously Chile is a very, very earthquake prone country. The most powerful eartquake in recorded history happened just a few miles from the epicenter of this one, in 1960. By the way, as horrible and as powerful as this earthquake was, it doesn't prove the apocalypse. No offense, but I think that the whole "2012 end of the world" scenario is ridiculous.
