wjd Posted February 5, 2010 at 02:49 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 02:49 PM Not sure if that has been posted, but I couldn't find it. I first posted this at my site, Vanity Edge: Two native Canadian artists continue to hold the top two spots as the best selling artists in Canada during the Nielsen SoundScan era; Celine Dion (7.1 million albums sold) and Shania Twain (4.2 million albums sold). These same two artists continue to have the biggest selling albums for Canada in the Nielsen SoundScan era; Shania Twain’s Come On Over album has sold 1.9 million units and Celine Dion’s Let’s Talk about Love album with 1.5 million sales. http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7123/soundscancelinedion.png "Let's Talk About Love" sold 250,000 copies in Canada first week out making *N'SYNC's record in America look futile. Thanks LostAvenger! Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
Sofie Posted February 5, 2010 at 03:01 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 03:01 PM Yey! That's great! Thank you! But still, I'm not surprised... Quote
Sofie Posted February 5, 2010 at 03:03 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 03:03 PM She's not that big in Sweden though...only 30 000 fans But I wish she was, and who knows, someday maybe... Quote

Thanks LostAvenger! That's absolutely incredible. With all the globalized music we have today, it's great to see two native artists still at the top. Also, since albums sales worldwide are in a slump, I'm sure she'll be #1 for quite a while. I also cannot get over her first week sales of LTAL. If I'm not mistaken, that's still a record, today. wjd Posted February 5, 2010 at 05:49 PM Author Posted February 5, 2010 at 05:49 PM Nothing has ever come REMOTELY close to Celine's first week sales for LTAL (well not in the Soundscan era anyway, and almost certainly not before then, as album sales prior to the 90's always sold based on chart stability rather than opening weeks). Another point to make, is that Celine has 6 (yes 6!!) Canadian million sellers - Lets Talk About LoveUnisonThese Are Special TimesFalling Into YouAll The Way ... A Decade Of SongThe Colour Of My Love Soundscan only moderate over the counter sales (known as 'shop sales' or 'retail sales') - they don't include music club sales, which were huge for some artists, 94-01. And so Celine's Canadian numbers are much, MUCH higher than this - I estimated at my site (Vanity Edge forums) that Celine has shifted somewhere in the region of 14.5-15.5m albums across Canada - the highest figure for any act in the history of the country (although the Beatles are coming close and are close to 14.5m). But that's my own work, and nothing official. Shania's success is huge too, and spread across only 4 albums Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
RLAAMJR. Posted February 6, 2010 at 02:20 PM Posted February 6, 2010 at 02:20 PM i really don't think somebody can beat Celine Dion in Canada. so i'm not really surprised even if she stays at number 1 forever. Quote
