Do Celine's titles have a impact on their success?

Recommended Posts

Celine has had some very smartly titled releases in her career. Albums Falling Into You, All The Way A Decade Of Song, A New Day Has Come, all of which have been extremely successful releases, just to name a few!

Singles like Because You Loved Me, My Heart Will Go On, and I'm Your Angel were also great choices for titles.

Along with being great songs and albums and having Celine's incredible voice with them, do the titles of celines albums or singles and even Celine's signature logo have a notable impact on chart and sales success??(And should Celine and her team always want a title that will really connect with fans?)

Actually, I know Celine does want her titles, or any of her work to connect with her fans, I know it always does with me! , but should her team always want and care that her titles connect with fans?

In the 90's, the signature logo was definitely something that encouraged people to buy her albums because she was a warm and safe choice. I don't think the titles themselves had much to do with it, but the logo was very helpful, and they should bring it back as it's really nice.

Weird questions... How dumb would a person be if they bought Céline's music just because of the logo or of the title of the songs!

I agree with Jacob to some extent.. I mean what in the world does Celine's logo signature have to do with the success with a song or album? :hmm: However i do see how someone can connect to a song because of its title.. i mean if the listener can relate to the title, or the lyric's of a song touches someone on a personal level. Celine is a phenominal vocalist :xmaswhistling: I think her talent speaks for itself.

J'adore Celine

I have waited for so long...for a miracle to come, A New Day Has Come!!

Well.. I didn't and still don't like the cover of the AuTourDuMonde book! Why this font? It is so simple and does nothing with the picture.

And the picture isn't even sharp ( the moving arm). The real Celine Logo would have looked so much better on it!

Um, try not dumb at all. I personally like a song based on the sound and vocals, but many like songs because of the lyrics, the meaning, the emotions, etc....so I can see someone buying the song because the title reflects what they are feeling. No different then going to a bookstore....if you like murder/myster novels then you're going to look at titles and see that "The Joy Luck Club" probably wouldn't fit you as much as "A Time To Kill" would.

And as far as the logo...it's not so much someone saying, that logo looks neat, I wanna buy it....it's more so something that distinguishes the product apart allowing you to see it, thus consider buying it. Someone who has bought FIY will remember the logo and when they go to the store they will see that same logo on TAST and say, oh celine...I may buy that.

Of course you may like a song because of the lyrics, and when the title summarizes it and/or has a hook to it, that's even better, but I don't know one single person who likes a song just because of the way it is called, and nothing else... Same with album titles or album covers, most people pay attention to them, of course, but would rarely buy a disc only because it has a good title or because the picture is nice, or because there's this one logo that looks cool...

Without good melodies, fine lyrics and well-produced arrangements, you may have the best cover on Earth or the cleverest titles ever, your album won't sell much...

Same for a book, you may of course be tempted by a book whose cover and title seem attractive, but most of the time you buy them because you've read good reviews in the press, or because some friend advised you to read them, etc. It all goes down to the inherent quality of the material, in the end.

I mean, come on, do you really think that Céline's albums are less successful today just because the logo isn't on the covers anymore or because the titles are badly chosen?

Well I'm sorry but I was always learned all through my life that it's how a product looks is what makes something sell! I think that celines old logo was the perfict thing that made customers distingush one cd to another, the logo reminds them of another of her albums which they thought was great! Bingo! You have sold a CD!

If it wasn't important how things look why did the saying 'don't judge a book by it's cover' come from? Of cource it's important, you wouldn't by a cd without any artwork or writing would you? You dont by CDs which still say cd +R on would you, no! You want something to grab you and make you buy it!

Come on, of course it's important how things look, but in music just as in literature, looks are not the core element that makes a product sell... It's important, but it's secondary. You can have the best cover on Earth, if the music is s***, no one will buy it. When Céline was winning all her grammies and awards and having all her #1s 15 years ago, it was not because of her covers or album titles or her logo, it was because she was doing music which was answering people's quality standards at the time...

If you really believe in what you're saying kimankev, I'd be really interested to know how many CDs and books you bought just because you liked the cover!

And Céline's logo was a thing to build a fanbase, most people who casually buy, or bought, Céline's music didn't buy it for the logo, neither for the album title... 15 years ago Céline was building her career, her music was hot, she wanted to establish herself as household name, so the Céline logo was everywhere... Like David Foster said, she wanted to be known by her first name only... Many female singers actually did the exact same thing, Mariah, Barbra, Whitney, Birtney have all launched albums with their first name only... And today, Céline has succeeded her goal, she has a huge fanbase worldwide, she doesn't need any logo, she doesn't need to remind people that her name is Céline, she is a brand by herself, she has millions of fans buying whatever she does, it's not about a logo, or an album cover, or a song title anymore... Just launch a product with the Céline Dion trademark and you will sell millions of it, whether these are CDs, fragrances, DVDs, tour tickets...

Honestly, if there's one thing we should worry about concerning Céline's albums, it should be about the music she will do in the future, is she ready to give us some very good material, awesome melodies, great lyrics, amazing vocals, with high quality productions, etc? That's what's important, the logo is just secondary... and totally useless if you ask me.

Not weird or dumb in the least...I have bought CD's of people that I have never heard of based on the cover art, or the title of the songs, or as silly as it may sound, if it was a guy I've bought the CD based on how hot he is lol. Also the genre in which the CD is categorized also has some bearing on whether or not I'm going to buy it.

That's the other way around. David said TO Céline that she would be called one day by her first name only. It was already the case at home and of course you're right it happened over time just like he had said to her. But Céline never said to David that she wanted that, I'm 100% positive. Several David's interviews can confirm that.

As someone said : there are as many reasons to buy a cd as there are people on this planet...We'd be surprised to learn all of those many reasons...in the music business some people make(or made) a living thinking of those you know.

Hum... He said "Two things will happen to you: you will be known by your first name only, and Barbra Streisand will know who you are" and she replied "If you are right, it will be a dream come true".

But you're right, it may be the other way round, whatever, that was not the core of my point, the things is, she and her management did everything for her name, and especially her first name, to become a golbal trademark.

And CelinesDIVO5... buying a CD just because the guy on the cover looks hot... sure, that's not dumb nor weird! ^_^ But you said it yourself, in the end, you do pay attention to the music genre, my point was not to say that the titles and logos and covers are totally useless, they are important, but in the end, it all goes down to THE MUSIC.

To me, Céline is so well known nowadays that her success does not rely on how she is packaged anymore, again, for most of the people who appreciate her, the Céline Dion trademark is enough for them to buy her stuff, if she wants other people to be interested in her music, she has to look beyond marketing issues and really pay attention to the music she wants to do... I mean, "Taking chances" was quite a clever move marketing-wise, the album title was catchy, the CD booklet was quite daring, and in the end she did not really exceed her usual territory and did not conqueer many new fans...

I know, I work on these issues everyday in my job... :flowers:

All what you guys are saying would be true if we were refering to an unknown new artist... But honestly, since Céline is such an established singer, the question goes WAY beyond simple things like her logo or the titles of her songs...

I agree the logo should be used again, i think it will because it will be used for the new movie in Feburary

I think some people are being short sighted in the sense that - yes we're all going to buy pretty much anything and everything relating to Celine because we are fans and are always ahead as much as possible with any releases.

So, marketing is a very key factor in album sales, it's used to catch the eye of the public and draw in interest so someone picks up the album even if they don't actually end up buying it etc.

Album art is very important and not stupid at all.

Are you mad lol thats exactly what i do and many other fans of celine do, if the cover or album art is great we buy it because of it, we aleady have the songs a 100 times over sometimes and we still buy it cus it has a new cover!

Of course album art is not stupid at all... It's essential, but if the music inside doesn't match with the expectations, it's useless...

And kimankev, you're talking about your fan addiction for anything new with the Céline stamp on it...

I personally wouldn't buy an album based on the fact that it had a logo on the front, I don't think it matters? Obviously, if you're a fan of a singer then you are more inclined to listen to their new releases, and most probably will buy the music.

Although album art has a powerful selling advantage, I believe people will buy albums/singles etc based on the singer and the songs.

^Nice of you to add the Logo I made to the covers. It shouldn't be the glowing one though.

I love the Celine logo. I think they should bring it back. Though, I really don't think it would affect her album sales, they would know if it's Celine Dion or not.

Like I said before PEOPLE recongnize a peice of work by the logo, its all marketing.. Mariah Carey does the same thing everytime we see the I dotted with the butterfly, people automatically know its Mariah Carey...

Its sounds stupid but YES, i think a logo would help sales
