Montreal's annual mega book fair began yesterday at Place Bonaventure. And, sad to say, I haven't yet found time to pay a visit, although I did write a brief intro story for today's paper pointing out that it may be possible to see the likes of celeb-chaser Ian Halperin and his buddy, former prostitute Nathalie McLennan, at the Salon, hawking the French versions of their books. McLennan, you may recall, contributed to Halperin's muckraking book on Cirque du Soleil owner Guy Laliberté by claiming to having once spent an adventurous night in Laliberté's company, along with another woman of her profession.

 

To make things even more surreal at the Salon, in addition to hundreds of authors of the most boring books imaginable as well as those, like Michel Tremblay and Yann Martel, who have penned works of true literary and/or commercial merit, René Angélil will put in some book-signing time there, on Saturday, between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Not that the man best known as the husband and manager of Céline Dion has written a book. He'll be helping Georges-Hébert Germain sell copies of his authorized (read fawning) biography of Angélil, titled Le maître du jeu.

 

Denise Bombardier, who will be at the Salon promoting her biography of Dion, titled L'Énigmatique Céline Dion, probably isn't going to get the same kind of help from Quebec's international songbird. But who knows? Bombardier researched the book by following Dion around the globe for a year. And they seem to be quite chummy. Keep your eyes peeled. Just about everybody who is anybody in the francophone artistic and literary worlds visits the Salon du Livre. Why not Céline?

 

Here's a link to a TV5 television interview that Bombardier did with Dion. I'm not sure of the date. (Please let me know if you can pin it down.) Bombardier also wrote a song for Dion, titled La Diva, and the singer actually recorded it in 2006. So much for journalistic distance. I'm guessing that Bombardier's book isn't exactly a warts-and-all biography either.

Why would she be there to promote Bombardier's book? Strange comment on this journalist part. Bombardier's book about Céline is not a bio or anything like that.

Thanks for the links! I'm happy to hear that Celine is doing great health wise. I pray that everything works out for them. Wonder what the ''secret'' project is that they are working on...

He says nothing about a secret project. He says he always has plans in his head, but right now they're concentrating on having a 2nd baby. He says Celine tried a 3rd time last weekend and they're waiting to see how it turns out.

He says he feels like he's 20 years old, he has the same drive and love of music business, and that he really doesn't feel as old as he actually is.

He says he's health is fine (looking around for wood to knock on ) and that medicine is so much more advanced now than 10 years ago (when he came down with cancer) and that one has to trust the doctors and the technology.

Huh, are we talking about the same article. I'm taking about the second one that Lou posted. Yes, it says that their main project is the baby, but he hinted that he and his team are working on something and that he cannot say more than that... (apparently with a huge grin on his face). Where do you get the part about him feeling like he is 20 and the that medicine is more advanced today?

Hmm interesting comment. I wonder if Bombardier's relationship with Céline is OK? Something tells me that that woman expected something else from Céline and the promotion of her book but she didn't get it so now she looks kind of frustrated with her book?

She has no1 to blame but herself... she was on a year long tour with Celine her family, band etc, and was told there was nothing she couldn't ask or write in the book, and she totally failed, its that simple.

Yeah, a good friend of mine translated the whole book bless her and printed it off and binded it for me... but yeah I wasn't impressed at all.

Look there is a "Céline autour du monde" book to René's left on this pic of him from Montréal's "Salon du livre". René did an intimate "déjeuner-causerie"(lunch chat) where he responded to a lot of questions about his profesionnal and personal life, his beginnings, the good and bad moves he's done during his life and carreer that were asked by 100 people (50 winners of a contest who brought a friend to come to this lunch chat to hear René talk and ask him questions). Of course he signed many of his bios for the fans too.

Apparently some people even brought him some demo tapes thinking...you never know.

Generous as he is they say, René stayed an hour more than previously planned to satisfy the biggest number of people as possible.

A little bit off topic but René is also suppose to be attending today (on November 22th) Montréal Celebrity poker tournament.

 

Finally I don't think René was at the poker tournament but one his son Jean-Pierre Angélil won the tournament over singer Nanette Workman in final.
