I've just watched Mariah Carey on Larry King and he said that Mariah is the world's biggest selling female artist, HE SAID THAT MARIAH HAS SOLD MORE ALBUMS THAN ELVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't Celine the world's biggest selling female artist????????

Neither Celine or Mariah have sold more albums than Elvis Presley. The guy's sold over 1,300,000,000 albums worldwide; best-selling artist(s) is The Beatles with 1,600,000,000. Celine has sold some 200 million copies, while Mariah hassold 175 million. In terms of best-selling female vocalist, the competition's between Celine and Madonna.

Frankly, I find album sales quite fascinating. Not only Celine's, but generally. At the end of the day though, I do agree with you. It's not sales, but each individual artist's talent that counts.

Celine has sold the most records but Madonna has sold way more singles. If you add the two together, Madonna wins. Just looking at records, Celine wins.

Then, when Larry King called Mariah "the world's biggest selling female artist who has sold even more albums than Elvis", he was completely wrong.

Only The Beatles have sold more albums than Elvis Presley, by 300 million units to be precise.

 

Then again sales estimates differ according to the resource, but ultimately Celine and Madonna are the best-selling female vocalists in ALBUM sales.

 

But just think, Elvis and The Beatles have sold over a BILLION albums each. That's 1/6 of the planet's population.

Tyler, actually, records = albums + singles but it's always misused for only albums so yes, it is considered to be albums. But many chart forums regard the combination of the two.

 

Anyways, be it albums or singles, (I really freakin' hate to say this) but Madonna wins on both counts. Now with digital sales on the rise, it's gonna get even more complicated. I think Max or some other chart experts around here would be the best regarding the sales.

 

 

Yes, Larry's introduction of Mariah was just as misleading as everyone else saying Celine is the one cos Madonna wins that. Even if Celine's certifications (very under-certified in many markets) are corrected and total shipments/sales are counted, Madonna's sales would still be more.

 

We just need to accept the facts which most fans are not going to

I dont think record sales are going to be much of a factor in the near future, its going to be based on download total Example: Brittney Spears went no.1 w her newest single "3" (which in my opinion was a horrible song) Its a new age. I dont care if Celine is "popular but todays music industry standards" its all young teeny boopers, to me Celine always wins and is no.1! Who cares about all these fued's? Everybody has there favorite
