Timster Posted November 3, 2009 at 04:24 PM Posted November 3, 2009 at 04:24 PM Hi there Did you know that it costs around £80000 to train as an airline pilot? Unless you are in a similar situation to me you are probably not aware that the UK government offers no financial help or loans to students embarking on this career. To make things even worse HMRC continues to impose VAT on the cost of the training making it an impossible dream for many young people like myself. Jane Desforges, a mother who took out a crippling second mortgage to pay for her son’s pilot training is meeting with the Minister for Innovation and Skills on 1st December. We need the UK Government to provide professional pilot training with the same educational benefits given to other professions. The government funds degree courses in just about any subject you can think of and yet no help is given to fund our future pilots in this country. Please take the time to visit www.fairplane.org.uk to support the campaign and add your name to the list to be given to the government. Many thanks Tim (pilot in waiting!) Quote

neilg Posted November 5, 2009 at 06:17 PM Posted November 5, 2009 at 06:17 PM You know there are flying schools, such as Flight Training Europe (http://www.ftejerez.com/) who offer training with finance packages. They have agreements with banks to provide loans. I looked at CTC too (http://www.ctcwings.com/europe/) who do similar training with a loan. But yer, it's a lot of money, and you will not be earning much once you are qualified, what with university student loans, aviation loan repayments, mortgages! Also, there is no guarantee that you will be in employment after you finish - all newly qualified pilots are put in a pool, and airlines select pilots based on requirements. Quote
Bralo20 Posted November 10, 2009 at 08:26 AM Posted November 10, 2009 at 08:26 AM Several academies are offering the studies against a much cheaper fare or are offering student loans. As I'm correct you can learn to be a pilot with KLM for just about 60.000 EUR. (At least it used to be)Sabena Flight Academy (SFA) (now part of the CAE group) is one of world oldest and most respected flight academies but there it will cost you about 99.000 EUR including type rating for a Boeing 737 or a Airbus A320. However this includes housing in the USA during the training in the US (SFA is located both in Belgium and Arizona). Quote ...
