Live CDs now vs. then.

It always bothers me that Celine never released a live CD in English in the 1990s. And that the general English-speaking public never got to hear her live in her vocal prime.

well yeah, LIM should have been released too IMO! but it bothers me more that there is no official concert released on video or dvd before LIM! I really don't get it! She is amazing live, especially then and the Incognito tour sold out over 50 times or something in Quebec only! Surely those people would have loved to have a video of that show! And of course à Olympia.... it's a big shame and a big loss in her discography!

How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

I truly believe that a voice, being an outward expression of inner self, can't help but change with time. In the 90s she was a tigress, yearning to go all the way, always up, up,up. That's why no dairy products, periods of complete silence, extensive vocal training didn't seem so bad back then. Now she's a mom, wanting a family as close as she used to have as a little girl, a singer who's seen everything and been everywhere any wanna-be can't even dream of. You can even hear these changes in her tone. I do believe that the attitude changes voices more than the larynx, which goes down with time, and the vocal cords, which are not getting any younger and fresher.

As far as a live release in english is concerned, that's a mystery to me too. LTAL tour was amazing, with the awesome Medley. But I wouldn't say the general public didn't hear what she was cabable of. There are TV shows, plus people went to see her live. Nowadays you can find lots of great stuff on the Internet from back then. And you have to admit a lot more people of "the general public" watch Oprah than they buy DVDs/CDs.

Anyway, why bother what someone might've missed? ;) You didn't, that's all that matters, isn't it? :)

She actually has released a Live in Memphis CD. It's actually a rare one; she released it in limited editions in Japan.

Plus, in my opinion, I don't see the utility of having live CDs of concerts nowadays. Why have them if we can actually see video+audio at the same time. As a side note, her last live CDs was big mess in the sales; it didn't sell much and she didn't sound so good too.

Some people don't want to see her perform. But HEAR her perform. I know of several people who are impressed with her vocal ability...but don't like to see her perform.

Also, I LOVE listening to Celine in my car. So the more LIVE CDs the better!

I agree. These performances are more about what we HEAR, not what we see. Sure, for a Gaga, a Madonna, a Britney, a Paula, and others, it is important to see and hear...but with Celine, seeing is nice, but it's all about hearing.

And yes, another good point. How do you bring a live DVD into a car with you on a long road trip?
