kathyc25 Posted August 20, 2009 at 01:25 PM Posted August 20, 2009 at 01:25 PM Hey guys! So I was thinking of traveling to abroad alone around the end of October, and I`m trying to think of where I could go. I`ve been to Italy and Greece...I was thinking maybe Thailand or something like that...or somewhere completely different. Does anyone have any good ideas for a girl traveling alone? And a place that won`t cost a fortune? Quote Music Is Life...Live ItYou are the music while the music lasts. ~T.S. reamary Posted August 20, 2009 at 03:01 PM Posted August 20, 2009 at 03:01 PM (edited) I would definitely recommend Paris! I've been there several times and I love it. I've travelled there alone too, and it's just magnificent. There's a LOT to see, and the nightlife's supposed to be pretty cool too, though I've never really gone out at night there. There are tons of restaurants and cafés, you can find fancy (that naturally also cost a lot) restaurants but also smaller cheaper ones that have just as excellent food. The French cuisine is just unbelievable in my opinion. The Parisian metro is excellent, and very easy to use. Though in Paris it's totally worth to just walk around in the city too, from monument to monument (if you wish to check out all those monuments) and see the life in the city. Sometimes you hear that one of the "negative" things about Paris is that all the famous monuments are so far away from each other, but I personally have never mind about that. First of all I don't think it's really true (depends of course on what you consider being far away..) and second of all I like walking! You can find a lot of cheap hostels in Paris too (I have used a site called hostelworld.com several times and every time I've found a nice place to sleep), and they are situated around the city, even in the center area. I don't think Paris is an expensive city either, but again depending on what you consider expensive (I'm a student and don't find it extremely expensive). Then again I have no idea how much it costs to fly there from USA.. but that should be easy to find out. Oh and if you wonder about the language, it's always a plus if you know French, but I think nowadays pretty much everyone speaks English there too! I consider Paris a pretty safe place to go too.Anyway, I recommend Paris! I spent there one night only a week ago, and I wish I could go there next spring again. I actually did think of China and India Bellamy and Davey but I wasn`t sure of the language barrier...although I suppose I could learn a few key phrases. Salla I would LOVE to visit you!! that would be so cool But yeah Finland would probably be FREEZING! lol Paris was actually what I thought of first...but then a few people have told me that the people there are not very friendly...but maybe that`s because they didn`t bother learning the language at all. I heard Berlin was awesome too! I`ll look into all of these I am a little nervous about traveling alone, and being in a strange city but I think it would be good for me...and to meet some new people, possibly some of you would be amazing! They are to Europe as NY is to the US. Mine too. And I agree about the Parisians' "rudeness", that it's an old stereotype. All the Parisians I've met have been polite and very helpful every time I've been in need of help. Several times as I've been struggling on the stairs of the metro with my huge luggage (oh yeah that's the only bad thing about the metro that there are a lot of stairs ), there have been some friendly men who have helped me carry the baggage up the stairs even without asking. They are to Europe as NY is to the US. I totally agree. OMG Paris. Been there three times and I believe would need a million more to fully see everything. There's so much to do and everything is soooooo beautiful!!! And it totally changes depending on the season. Also, it's super romantic. Besides, there are some great Paris passes for transportation and museums, which will make you save some $$. The metro system is great and you will not mind walking a lot. Quote

I'll think Finland during the winter must be lovely All that snow, the nice cold temperatures I'm sure it would be col and excotic f you yourself live in a different climate. But winter depresses me. It's cold and dark and just miserable. Especially when we only get snow in like Dec/Jan in the Southern parts. Lapland would be lovely to experience during the winter, I think.
