artist Posted June 14, 2009 at 08:34 AM Posted June 14, 2009 at 08:34 AM (edited) I dunno if I put it in the correct way, but... whenever I go to a cafe or a public place, she is not played as in the 90's. Even if i mention her name in front of someone they have either two reactions: 1. Too old for now 2. Are you gay? So... what's goin' on? I wanna know, has anything changed since th 90s in the terms of her songwriters and producers? I think guys in the 90s like David foster and Dianne Waren were doing a great job for her. Dunno if her popularity will be back as before For me she is still young, some artists were at the top of their careers in their 40s Edited June 14, 2009 at 08:37 AM by artist Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v346/anasassaad/jnjkhjk_zpsbd763de7.jpg
Javito Posted June 14, 2009 at 09:01 AM Posted June 14, 2009 at 09:01 AM Do you realize today, in 2009?? She's not as popular as she was in the 90's since MANY years ago. Specifically since she decided to shut herself up in Las Vegas in 2003. Of course radios don't play her songs, because even the record company haven't supported her all these years. And -it seems- she is going to do that again the next year for her "comeback"!! Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Bumble Posted June 14, 2009 at 09:19 AM Posted June 14, 2009 at 09:19 AM Because nowadays artists level up their way to the top using their bootys and boobies, before vanishing of the scene forever, due to the coming of a newer sexier new year's model. Celine is an old brand, but a brand you can count on, that eveyone support, even if she looks less shiny than the newest models. Thomas Posted June 14, 2009 at 10:31 AM Posted June 14, 2009 at 10:31 AM Celine is just like Cher or Tina or Barbra or any of the other established singers that are no longer chart toppers. They have huge fan bases and still have success but it's unlikely they'll be number one again in today's market. It's not even worth worrying about, it's just a sign of the times. And it has nothing to do with songwriters or producers really. If Celine was to come out with BYLM today in 2009 it's unlikely it would get to number one and it definitely wouldn't have become a global smash because fewer people buy singles and fewer people are interested in that genre of music. It's all about being cool these days and Celine, thankfully, is not cool. Because like Ben said, cool comes and goes and more importantly it changes, so whats cool now won't necessarily be cool 10 years from now. But Celine bypasses the trend, she doesn't rely on her looks or on a certain producer or on her image so she can hang around as long as she likes as long as her fans are interested, and we are. Quote
gafsa Posted June 14, 2009 at 10:55 AM Posted June 14, 2009 at 10:55 AM Here in Indonesia Celine song is still often played in public but not in radio station. i often heard Taking Chances album in some supermarket. i remember the waitress sing along Surprise Surprise song, they seem really like it. but in the radio they only play her old stuff, Quote

browseceline Posted June 14, 2009 at 01:59 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 01:59 PM nowadays R&B is the biggest attraction, with artists coming and going and all sort of sounding the same! For instance, Esmee Denters, allthough new in the genre, introduced by Justin Timberlake, still delivers a songthat is just average, and likely to be a hit..but it just sounds like Rihanna is singing it. All those r&b artists sound the same! Celine will never reach the top because most of the people don't like that genre ; it is not fast enough, not sexy and definately not coolthese days to listen to that sort of music, and listening to Celine seems to be be not done. But as we could see, her Taking Chances Tour was sold out everywhere, so she does not have to make a hitrecord anymore, she is what she is and that is what people know and that is why we all come to hear her great voice! felixwhoals Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:06 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:06 PM I guess there are not many people who really admire her music anymore. That doesn't have any impact on me because I will always support Celine no mattter what she does. Go Celine!! angelil78 Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:18 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:18 PM I don´t think we need to worry. She has sold out concerts, almost all the shows in Las Vegas. She sells huge amount of cd´s. I heard her in the mall on thursday, made me really happy Quote
drove all night Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:32 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:32 PM (edited) Well, I'm pretty sure that she doesn't care! She reached all possible peaks an artist can reach - most of them more often, got so much awards, earns millions of dollars - even if she would stop (WHICH OF COURSE WON'T HAPPEND SO FAST!!!). I'm sure all she did since the "Taking chances"-album was of pure fun and not to set another "record breaker". And by the way - I'm convinced that with Rene's cancer diagnosis in 1999 everything changed for both of them regarding "setting another record". Aaaand: I don't care if she is "in or out" of the market ... She has got her own "market". People like us, who love her - and will always do. And I'm pretty sure that there are more than just "a few" of us out there ... Edited June 14, 2009 at 02:33 PM by drove all night Quote
celinefan5 Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:38 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 02:38 PM I think Celine is still number one I hear her on the radio and I know a lot kids who like her....she was played at a dance last year and all the kids when crazy! They love her But I do also agree with Bumble, Celine isn't one to show off her body (Never has nor will) and I think she's loved for not doing that GO CELINE Quote

Belle Céline Posted June 14, 2009 at 03:49 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 03:49 PM (edited) Celine is never played on the radio here, the ONLY time I've ever heard her on the radio was when I Drove All Night came out and I would call into request it and sometimes they played it sometimes they didn't. They did play it a few times without me requesting it. I've heard her sonsg played at the mall maybe twice ever that I've been in the mall. I agree with what Thomas said. No one in my family likes, Celine I get made fun of on a regular basis becuase I like her. None of my friends like Celine either and throw fits when I play her music in the car or at home when they are over. Personally I don't know anyone who is a fan, and I mean someone I know personally or have met in person. The only people I know that like her are here on the forum. SensationalCeline Posted June 14, 2009 at 04:26 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 04:26 PM She's always in my market.........I should hook up my mp3 player to all the radio stations in the world!!!! Then we'd be making a statement to people of all ages. It's a good way to make sure that she's represented with good air play time. MTJ Posted June 14, 2009 at 05:06 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 05:06 PM I hear My Love on the radio all the time, and I don't even listen to the radio! And Belle Celine, I know what you mean -- but a lot of my friends do like her, just not as I do. Quote
Belle Céline Posted June 14, 2009 at 05:19 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 05:19 PM (edited) my best friend says she's not a Celine fan yet when we went to the concert I saw her singing along with nearly every song, though that could have something to do with the fact I played the Taking Chances album 24/7 in her car along with a ton of other Celine songs I have on my ipod, I always hook my ipod up when we are in her car because I don't like ANY of the music she has on her ipod its all eighties music like Joan Jett and Rage against the machine and crap I've never heard and don't like. Still she claims to like some songs like Love Is All We Need, That's Just The Way It Is. MHWGO, Taking Chances but then if I play them more than a couple times she says she doesn't like them I'm like uhh what? You just said you like that one, you were singing along to it but now you don't like it? And at the concert she shelled out thirty bucks for a t shirt (plus the 50 for a ticket and a greyhound ticket to get to the show) and she bought a poster and begged me for one of my decorative pins because it matched her shirt. If you ask me she's a closet fan and just won't admit she like Celine. ladylindsey Posted June 14, 2009 at 05:26 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 05:26 PM When I was younger, I heard Céline on the radio all the time, for sure. I never ever ever ever may I repeat ever hear her on the radio n ow. Even on the mushy stations lol. I heard Taking Chances once on our popular music radio station but that was because I called in and requested it lol. I got so excited hearing it on the radio, I wanted everyone to hear what I love about my Céline! Now all that's on the radio, well 99% of it, is crap. People who will get their 15 minutes of fame and then disappear. I don't care personally if she never has a #1 hit again or whatever because I will always love her, like you guys, but I do wish there were more people who could experience and appreciate why I do love her so that have no clue right now because they never hear it except in certain places where everyone groans when MHWGO comes on or something... I guess I just want to recruit for her haha. Quote
angelil78 Posted June 14, 2009 at 06:01 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 06:01 PM Well I´m watching E! now and it´s Celine Dion THS that is airing now, just began. I think I get E! from Uk or E! Nordic.. don´t know. But it has new clips... Quote
JCeline85 Posted June 14, 2009 at 06:40 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 06:40 PM i was at the mall yesterday and i heard BYLM, Taking Chances and IDAN all in 2 hours! i was excited!! But she is definitely no Britney spears or lady gaga who gets airtime. Celine had her "#1" days but now it's like others have said in this thread.. she is still an artist you can count on, she is like Cher, Bette, Tina, all the divas.. Celine has an amazing fan base and no matter what she does from this point on, she will still be successful. I think having her in Vegas is huge, because she is definitely the biggest artist to play the strip since Elvis, and well if she can be at home while doing that and sell out every night then more power to her. She just finished a concert tour that sold out around the world.. people still know who Celine Dion is, and she is still very popular, obviously. Just because she isn't played on the radio with the other hooligans means absolutely nothing. The Celine Dion brand is very powerful and popular and they did an amazing job getting her to the top. This woman in the #1 selling artist of ALL TIME, has a very well established line of popular, affordable fragrances, and is show stopper.. she will continue to go on and on and on... (had to say that haha) for many years to come. Quote The Wait Is Over?
dancer105 Posted June 14, 2009 at 07:46 PM Posted June 14, 2009 at 07:46 PM (edited) I just heard BYLM on the radio last tuesday... and I was surprised because I NEVER hear Céline on the radio anymore. Usually during christmas I hear her all the time at malls and the store KOHLS sometimes plays her music but you can always hear Céline and Whoriah Scarey at christmas time... As for younger kids knowing about Céline, I'm 17 and a lot of kids my age think she's old but still love her songs and give her credit for having an amazing voice.. and even younger kids may not know who she is or anything about her but they know her songs too or they at least know her as the lady who sings the titanic song... I've heard that one too many times. Edited June 14, 2009 at 07:46 PM by dancer105 Quote
