Her hair has only been in that style for a couple seasons of the show before she had a really short cut that she's had since the sextups were born. The hair to the side is a new thing on Kate. Though they both look better with long hair, Kate is much prettier with long hair. She cut it after the twins were born and its gotten shorter and shorter and now its a bit longer. I can't find any photo's of Kate with long hair other than her wedding and then it's pulled up so you can't really see but if you watch this video of how they met you'll see it's long and looks much prettier.
