Celine didn't like her first english album?

"Many critics have stated that Dion's involvement in the production aspect of her music is fundamentally lacking, which results in her work being overproduced[118] and impersonal.[28] Additionally, while she came from a family in which all of her siblings were musicians, she never learned to play any instruments professionally. However, she did help to compose many of her earlier French songs, and had always tried to involve herself with the production and recording of her albums. On her first English album, which she recorded before she had a firm command of the English language, she expressed disapproval of the record, which could have been avoided if she had assumed more creative input.[28] By the time she released her second English album Celine Dion, she had assumed more control of the production and recording process, hoping to dispel earlier criticisms. She stated, "On the second album I said, 'Well, I have the choice to be afraid one more time and not be 100% happy, or not be afraid and be part of this album.' This is my album."[28] She would continue to involve herself in the production of subsequent releases, helping to write a few of her songs on Let's Talk About Love (1997) and These Are Special Times (1998).[122]"

this is from wikipedia. while it's not always the best source. i feel this might be true since she never sings WDMHBN anymore. why would someone lie about this anyways

does anyone know if this is true though?

well she didn't wanna sing WDMHBN anymore, because she felt she has drained the song and it had no feeling left for her (and this after 6 years, while she still 'sings' TPOL after 15 years with 'such passion' )

I don't think she really hated Unison... she was very young and didn't want to express her own opinion, but I think she was very proud back then about her first album in English...

I don't know if that info is true, but in any case I don't understand what she can't like about the Unison album, regarding the production side. I think its one of her best english albums! :in_love: She haven't recorded hot songs like the Unison remix and I Feel Too Much anymore since then. Any Other Way, The Last To Know and Love By Another Name are also great tracks, not to mention the breathtaking Have A Heart, with the backing vocals she does in it

Also, how far she could have been involved on an album that was her very first english recording, and with huge producers like David Foster on the team?. If I were on her shoes, I would have accepted all the directions and advices they could give me, because it was a very important album to made. And the result was great (in my opinion of course). It has a brilliant production on each song, much more ellaborated than many of the Taking Chances songs  :)

And about her involvement on the production process, it shocks me :whistling: . Perhaps she gives more her opinion today, but I've never seen her saying "I wanted this or that instrument on this song", or "I wanted these sound effects"... you know, those kind of details in the production side of each song. She has always left that on the producers (mainly Humberto Gatica).

I've always seen her recording the song behind the microphone in the studio and then, bye bye, move on the next song  But she didn't spend much time on the recording table, pr picking instruments and sounds like other artists do.

It seems poorly worded. I've never heard Céline say anything negative about it, just that for her 1992 release she had more control---that she was more comfortable. Same with her very first album, "La voix du bon Dieu." I think it just meant to say that she got more comfortable working and taking charge.

"People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."

and the reason celine didn't really like involve in the songs for instrument and things i think is because she doesn't have the time for it!

and i think also becuase there's a disappointment for dream a dream... which she recorded but later not used.....

Hmm....

I guess what Celine was trying to say is that she could take more risks with the second English album... I don't think Celine necessarily disliked the album.

Wikipedia always gets things wrong... :nono: :giggle:

I believe firmly in specialization of labor. Leave the production to the producers and the singing to the singers. When singers dabble in too many things, their singing becomes compromised. Honestly, I am told Mariah Carey wrote this song, Alicia Keys wrote that song, but at the end of the day, after their songs are compared to Celine's songs, I feel Celine's songs are the ultimate finished, professional product (no disrespect to those artists). Just because Celine did not write her songs does not mean she sings more detached from them. If anything, she becomes more intimately connected to each note.

On ne change pas.... c'est tres vrai, Celine, en particulier pour toi...

I agree! Celine is one of the best ''interpreters'' of songs in the world. She just has a way of making the song her own even though she did not write it.

Celine is a very good classical pianist, but we never see her play because she does not feel she is good enough Her perfectionism) Rene says she plays beautifully. Celine also plays some guitar.

Celine has said many times in her books that all she wanted to do is sing. Rene promised Celine that that is all she had to do and he would find the right people to do the rest. Rene does and always has treated Celine like a queen.

It was when had his cancer that Celine started to do more in the recording studio so that Rene could rest properly and not have to worry about her so much. Besides Rene had said that if he were to die and Celine would stop singing because of it, that he would die twice; Rene wants Celine to sing all her life as she kept telling him that, that is what she wanted to do.

go on youtube and watch the recording of CAN'T FIGHT THE FEELIN'...she mentions something about wanting a certain effect on her voice during the bridge of the song. Check it out. And also on the video for the recording of The Reason I Go On. That was a COLD TURKEY recording. None of the production had really been set, the song hadn't even been finshed being written. She helped out a lot in the creation process of that song as well.

yeah I heard many times that Céline suggests a lot during the recording, but she's never credited for it... after recording for 28 years she must know a lot about it! :whistling:
