Serious accident/attack in Apeldoorn (Holland) on Queen's Day april 30

just saw the most horrible thing on dutch tv.

the royal family is visiting apeldoorn on queen's day and they were on a bus driving by thousands of people.

a man in a car drove through the crowd and several barriers with high speed and drove into pilar to come to a stop.

before he hit the pilar the car was already severly dented.

you could see peeps lying on the streets, injured. reportedly 1 person has died.

the royal bus witnessed the whole thing as the car was right in front of them.

 

what a major tragedy. was it an attack ? was it an accident ? maybe the guy had a heartattack ? no information as of yet.

there will be a press conference later.

 

This was supposed to be a day filled with joy. The sun was shining, there were celebrations all over te country and now this.

There were 23 people hit by the car: 6 people are injured very badly and 2 people already died ...

Wow!! I saw Maxima's face duringthe crush..they were all very surprised..to me was an attack

During the press conference the told that there were 17 people hit by the car. There are 8 injured and 5 bad injured people. And 4 people died.

 

It wasn't an accident. An 38 year old man drove on purpose through the barriers. But it's still unknown of the man who drove the car wanted to harm the Royal family or just a lot of people ...

I am just so so shocked....I can't believe this...absolutely horrible how bad people were injured. People flying through the air and hitting the asphalt...awful...I can't believe someone purposely destroyed this special day. ORANGE rules always

I can't believe this horrible thing....

 

Everything was good, people were happy and the whole country was one big party! My aunt and uncle were there, my little cousin called us that she shaked the hand of Queen Beatrix.

 

And suddenly this...

 

Queensday will never be the same thing!

 

Activities in my village are canceled. Flags were half-masted..

Today I had to work in the supermarked, I saw much people from who you could see the confusing en sadness in their eyes. No reason to be happy anymore....

 

My heart goes out to the victims and their families, the queen, prince Willem-Alexander and princess Maxima and their families. Just on a day that they share their cohesiveness to the Dutch people, something like this had to be happen.

It's to sad..

And just the fact that one person could spoil Queens day for a whole country (just like Leanne says, it would never be the same), it's ridicilous ... But unfortunately the truth ...

I wasn't home all day, but the news reached me in the afternoon and I couldn't believe it at first! It's totally unreal!!! why would anyone want to ruin a national holiday for 16 million people??!! just because he lost his job!??! GRRRRRR some people....

 

and the recent sad news is, that a 5th person has died, cos of his or hers injuries Koninginnedag 2009 has a strange taste now. But i believe that Koninginnedag should stay the way it was! Because it not only brings the royal family closer to the 'public', it also brings the public closer to one another!!!

Well, I wonder if Queensday next year will be there! Well, maybe for the Dutch people, but for the queen and her family?? I don't know..

of course!! they should!! yes the security has to become better and more strickt, but they are a royal family of the people... they want to be with the dutch people and this is a great way... it has been for over 60 years, so why change that??

we should keep queensday i think and make a statement. the royal family will prob have more security measurements and wont

appear in the crowds as much. they will have to make the decision want they want to do. for now they need to deal with it all and let it sink in.

in the coming days there will be a memorial service for the victims and the royal family will attend it. also it was said the royals or some of them will meet with the victims and the families of the people who have lost a loved one.

this is one sad day for sure. it will never be the same again. i guess there will be a moment of silence every year from now on. we have to see. first we all want some answers. i hope the guy survives as we all want to know why on earth he did this crazy thing.

I think Queensday should stay the way it was, and the only thing that could change is when Willem-Alexander becomes king, they change it to his birthday, the 27th of april... I don't think they should have a nationwide 1 minute of silence, maybe only in Apeldoorn, not in the whole of the Netherlands, because it should be a day of party!! not a day of memorial...

When I woke up today I already had a strange feeling, I already thought the man who did this wouldn't survive this ... But it makes me sad and angry. No, not because he had the right to live. But for his story, why he ended the lives of so many people and why this attack at our Royal Family? He had be punished! The internet says he probably got 30 years (www.nu.nl). He deserved that, not his dead! I think it's hard for people to close this chapter, because nobody exactly knows why this happened ... It will be guessing ... It will be an open end ...

 

For the information, at the moment there are 6 people who died (4 men, 2 women). From all the victoms, there were 3 children. The photo's in the news paper were so shocking this morning! I have no words for that.

She didn't change it for two reasons; 1 she wanted to honour her mother Queen Juliana and 2, I think they didn't change the date, cos of her own birthday, can you imagine celebrating like this in January... 3 days earlier wouldn't be that much a diffence though.

unfortunately another victim passed away this weekend. her daughter had been released from hospital on friday

but sadly her mother passed away friday nite.
