Celine's Voice

i was thinking of writting this topic for sometime

it's not about how many octave she can sing or so but about her voice

in 1998 i believe when i first see Celine live concert on tv which was Live In Memphis

when she started talking i was like oh it's different to her singing voice!! and i was surprised lol

did you get surprised when u first hear Celine talk too?

other thought was that Celine's voice wasn't good for the year of 03 maybe at the beginning is good but after it's not.. you can hear it in the ANDLILV cd and when i was in Vegas dec 03 her voice was like so fragile and nasal, i was a bit afraid that her voice would break.... but then after when i go there again in dec 07 her voice was so back to top..

so what do you think about this?

Courage don't you dare fail me now!

I think Celine's voice on Unison, Dion chante Plamondon, and Celine Dion is very unpolished and raw, personally. I hear a big difference between those albums and The Colour of My Love. I still love that voice, though. TCOML, I think, is when her voice started getting more "polished" and trained. The best is probably 1995-1998, those are her peak years vocally. When she came back from her break, her voice was still as strong and powerful as ever. I don't think it changed that much. Her Vegas voice was so awful it's not even funny. It was either a hit or miss each night for Celine, she would either nail the song or it would flop horribly, no in between. That's what Vegas air does to you.

On this tour, now that she's out of Vegas, her voice has gotten much better but I think Vegas did some damage to it. Celine's voice is still as strong and powerful as ever, but the tone of her voice is much different. It's much higher and more girly, in my opinion. It's not bad but Vegas changed the tone of her voice. That's why i'm afraid of her Vegas return, the damage to her voice.

Of course I still love her voice, though :P

Yep that's what scares me too ˝THE VEGAS CAGE˝ is :rip: to her voice remember that humidity mask Celine wore on the road before the show in AND LILV DVD. Celine we can also travel to Florida istead of Las Vegas to see your show, I personaly prefer Florida the clime is perfect and I'm sure You would like it too!!! :msn-wink:

I just stumbled across a magazine from 2006 that I had with Celine in it talking about moving to Florida after Vegas, which is now probably after the tour, and she said that she wanted to go into movies after a break and possibly another baby!!

Well let's consider Florida is probably one of the most humid states in the US, having humidity year round. No wonder she wants to live there. I hope that she rests in her new home with her family and can return even more rejuvenated than last time she took a break.

Yeah, that's true. I agree with both of you.

I love Céline 1995-1998 best.. But it also depends on the song.. On Taking Chances I like her voice, just the way it is, because the songs are... uhm... different then the ones before, so her voice suites to those songs.

Anyway. Let's hope the best for Vegas a second time.

Her (technical) voice isn't to me the most important thing, it's the emotion she brings into the song...

But I'll always think Céline has the best voice in the world.. No-one can touch me with her voice as she can.

I don't know, I like her voice now. To me it sounds warmer and richer (but I guess everybody hears something different). I also think that her range is bigger today than years ago.

I have to agree that the AND CD is horrible (maybe she just had a bad cold when they recorded that, we will never know, will we), but she sounds awesome on the DVD. I also think that she was in great shape vocally during this tour even though she had a lot of problems with her health (at one point I was really worried because it seemed like she just couldn't shake the infection or whatever it was that she had).

Has the tone of her voice changed? Yes, but that is not a bad thing. I don't think Vegas itself was the only factor that changed the tone of her voice, age also changes the tone of your voice. I also think that the amount of shows that she did in Vegas was one of the reasons that she sometimes just messed up horribly. I think that sometimes she was just tired and just wanted some quiet time... At least we know that if she does go back to Vegas she will do less shows, which also means that she might not stay there for long periods of time.

There is no denying it, her voice is gorgeous (sometimes I listen to her music while I'm working and then I would just stop what I'm busy with because I get so mesmerized with how her voice sounds) but the reason I love her music is the emotion that she sings with. I also love her energy...

P.S I love her talking voice.

I love Celines voice and always have. I love that she can reach so deep and go so high now, which she didn't do before. I think she has alot of power in her voice still, as well. I think her Peek was in the 90's, but I watch performances from a month or two or more ago and she sings songs better now than she did then, or with more raw emotion and she just floors me. I think her voice is that of a grown, mature woman. The videos of her in the recording studio for Taking Chances blew me away as well, as she handled such notes with ease and they we're belts and so good that I got goosebumps! There is a definant change in her tone, she is more nasily for sure, and sometimes when she sings, it sounds like her nose is plugged up and I hate that, but it's not THAT big of a deal to me. Her most nasily performance that I remember watching was All By Myself at the Millenium concert.. I hate that performance, haha. But again, I still think she is great. I still would rather listen to her sing than ANY OTHER FEMALE SINGER AROUND, and I think even though she sounds a little stuffed up sometimes, it's not so bad and she still is amazing. I do think Vegas did alot. If you watch Power of Love live in Vegas from 2003, the first bridge which she sings live for sure matches the audio so perfectly, and if you watch performances from last month, when she sings the first bridge, it doesen't match the audio at all, cause of the tone change.

I guess my first time that I heard her talking was also in the Live In Memphis concert on video in 1998. I don't remember if I was surprised to first hear her talk, but I don't think so, as everyone's singing voice is usually different than their talking voice. I just loved her talking voice (of course singing as well!) in the concert! And I still absolutely loove her talking voice, it's so gentle and so soft.. very pleasant for the ear. :)

yeah I agree with you most of the years... before Unison Céline had a very raw, but powerful voice, I think with Incognito all the little kid voice was gone, and her adult voice began to grow... When she lost her voice during the Unison tour, she started doing the vocal exercises, and I think during 93 to 95 you can hear how chrystal clear that made her voice, with 96 as her peak, where she controlled her voice totally! in 97 her voice got a bit tired after 2 world tours, you can hear that one LTAL, but the rawness it got, goes so well with SISDA!! TAST i refer to as her 'Bee Gees' album -_- She gave her best for 99, where her voice got really big!

In 2002 her voice sounded so easy.. she had a very different way of singing, still powerful, but with a lighter touch. but when AND started her voice got strained. I think that had to do with; 1 the 'vegas throat', 2 she didn't have silent days and 3 the huge amount of shows. (I think her voice will be fine with a new vegas run, IF they reinstall the humidifyer!) I think Céline also realised her voice wasn't as it used to be, cos over 2005 to 2006 her voice began to get back to it old self again! With TC and D'elles her voice sounds more powerfull then ever! all you have to do it watch the making of MTMH and you know what I mean! ^_^ but it has become a bit more nasal... but then again, she always was nasal :P during this tour she sounded awesome aswell! but I think in the States, she started to loose her voice again for a bit, cos of sickness and all the travelling... but it wasn't as bad as 2003/2004!!

yeah it has changed, but in a good way!! Céline is the only 'Diva' from the 90ies who could still perform her songs they way she recorded them!! :whistling: B)

Her most nasily performance that I remember watching was All By Myself at the Millenium concert.. I hate that performance, haha. But again, I still think she is great.

before the Millennium concert Céline was sick! and she was taking antibiotics to be able to perform... I think that's why she didn't sound so great on that concert, but the concert itself is so amazing, that those little errors don't mean a thing! :in_love:

I understand what you're sayin Davey, and I agree. Her voice has changed a little, but when you think of Mariah and Whitneys drastic changes, WOW. Celine is just tops! In alot of ways, I think her voice is bigger than ever. When she does belt these days, it has more resinance, and it just goes farther, if you know what I mean. Back in the 90's Celines voice was more sharp, now it's booming, and I fricken LOVE that!

I should say I like her voice in Celine Dion album and after that, her voice in let's talk about love is really heavenly and in all the way so strong.

and in falling into you strong, beautiful and heavenly.

also in a new day has come is as great as all the way.

in unison her voice is not bad but not so strong and stretchy, but in where does my heart beat now it is better than others but a bit nasal

but in taking chances album,we can hear her voice is not so strong,it is not so powerful instead of high notes it is big screams, and it is not so soft and deep like high notes in then u look at me for example, but I should say her voice is still so good

You have to take into consideration that TC has a different sound altogether. I don't think you can compare TC with her other albums. In my opinion Celine delivered some of her best vocal performaces on TC...

AMEN to this one. it's the genre that changed, but the vocals were just as strong. Fade Away, That's Just the Woman in Me and Map to My Heart are just some of the best examples of songs that presented Celine at her absolute best, vocally. these songs are some of the dopest songs, even Mariah or Whitney could only dream of hitting. FACT.
