Economic Crisis & Collecting Celine

Of course we all know what a major mess the world economy is in at the moment in most countries, and while of course it is a very serious and worrying time for a lot of people, With the recent availability of a few major rare items appearing here and online, I was just wondering what effect (if any) you think the current situation may have in regards to collecting Celine.

 

 

For instance do you think it will be a good thing (for collectors I mean) as more people may sell their collection, giving you access to items that have been pretty much locked away in collectors wardrobes for many years?

 

Have you noticed prices of items are dropping?

 

Are you buying less stuff and being more careful about what you buy?

 

Have you even considered selling your own collection and putting the money you make "under the mattress"?

 

Do you still consider the thousands you have spent on Celine as a good investment for the future?

wow this is my topic init! ha.

 

mmm im not sure if ive made an investment or not....but so i can sleep at night id say yes. haha although im still not entirely sure that celine will keep having the fanbase in the future to warrent such prices for her material...im not sure.

 

Collectingwise - i havnt bought anything now since November. Severe lack of funds is to blame. I think generally the economic downturn will probably not affect collecting too much....i think when its so specialist...people will always pay....but witht hat thought in mind i have noticed over the past few years in fact....prices dropping and not increasing....this further supports my feelings about celines collectablility dropping off in the future. But who knows. Ive seen many items i bought for decent prices plummet in the last few years...especially the monsters of the past...'a special radio event'....'the power of celine dion'....and 'the collection' they have all come down soo much...

 

there is little to my mind that has increased in value to 10 years ago.

I don't think this will affect me, cos I'm 14 and earn money from mowing the lawns for my 2 next door neighbours, so I think I'll still be earning as usual...

Well I don't know what makes people sell their collection? Maybe because they need the money (but if that's due to the crisis I don't know) or worse; because they are not fans anymore

some items have dropped down, like Tom said; the The Collection Promo for instance. And also her earlier lps are cheaper, cos there are offered more.

 

But at the same time, there are also ‘normal’ things, that lately became very expensive! Like the german 7” of NPPSM I posted recently, it went for 50+ dollars, but I bought it for a few euro’s some years ago! But what I don’t want, is to pay more then 50 dollars for a cheap cdr promo

Well I'm always carefull with what I buy! I have most of the 'normal' stuff, so I know that the items I buy now, are more expensive then usual. But it has to be fun and I don't want to pay ridiculous amounts!

hahaha funny thing is… My bed is high off the ground, and under my bed, I hang up boxes to keep the singles and cassettes, so my money is ‘under my mattres’ but now I think I can’t ever sell my collection! I’ve been working on it for 11 years now, so it would be heartbreaking to sell it.

 

I was watching cash in the attack Sunday and 2 sisters were selling all kinds of stuff, also things that have been in the family for ages…. And why?! Cos they were going away for a family meeting or something like that, and they would wear reproduced costumes from the 1850’s. so they sold all that stuff to buy some clothes! I really don’t understand why you would sell your belongings for something like that! If it was a house or something like that, I would understand… but for some costumes!

 

Do you still consider the thousands you have spent on Celine as a good investment for the future?

 

hahaha well that’s a question whether or not Céline will remain popular or not! Elvis merchandise is still solid gold, but for how long? granded though, there will always be new people that will be interested in Céline’s music, but only a few will collect everything.

When I started there was no ebay. And I bought most singles at fair, where the prices were high; 25 guilders for a normal single for instance, while now you can get it for a few euro’s on ebay! Ebay was good for the market, in that way that the prices that fair seller asked, where lowered, although there are still some (like french ones) who will still ask the jackpot!

 

 

for now I am still safe, jobwise, but I do want to save money for a house, so I'll only buy stuff, when I really, really want it.... which is too often though

to come back on this; PRICES HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ROOF on some items!!! I dunno if it's just 2 buyers bidding against each other... but at times I think DAMN that so aint worth it! but that's my opinion....

I dunno,

Apart from my big buys I have got a few nice items lately pretty reasonably.

For instance, this week I got amongst a bunch of other things,

SSD/IYA card single with 5 other card sleevs (only 1 of which I already had) for €20

The Canadian Incognito single with Celine in the purple skirt for €5.99

And I got the mexican THLAL promo for €6.60

 

So there are still bargains to be had. I think that people went loopy on your manno from Korea's stuff last month, but ebay seems to me to have calmed down a bit at the moment.

 

Unlike Ireland, (which is drowning in quicksand) a lot of countries seem to be on the way back at the moment. THings aren't great, but they'res a definate improvement.

Yes, I e-mailed all sellers in advance to ask them to tell you that!

 

It was on ebay, easy enough to get hidden when it's in a group with other things. There was no skill involved in finding it, just pure look. If Tim hadn't won it recently I probably wouldn't have had it in my radar at the moment at all, so I owe him too!
