GoldenLeaf Posted February 27, 2009 at 06:36 PM Posted February 27, 2009 at 06:36 PM Another one bites the dust. Starpulse says former American Idol runner up Clay Aiken has been "ditched by his record label RCA after his last album flopped. Clays latest, On My Way Here, sold an abysmal 159,000 copies, a dramatic drop from his 2003 debut, which sold more than 2.5 million. "The 30-year-old's representative Cindi Berger claims the split was caused by a breakdown in contract talks." She told People.com, "We were unable to come to terms in a recent contract negotiation, and decided that it was best to move on. Clay is only the latest in a line of former idol hopefuls to be dropped from their label, including Blake Lewis, Katharine McPhee and Ruben Studdard. Clay recently ended a run as Sir Robin in the musical Spamalot. And last year he shocked approximately 4 people when he came out of the closet. Quote

disadiva Posted February 27, 2009 at 08:30 PM Posted February 27, 2009 at 08:30 PM I bought his last album and it is bad..i never listen to it.No wonder he was dropped by RCA with such lame album sales he needs more powerful men in the music industry and now that David "Foster" is family.cause his sister Jaymes Foster had Clay Aikens Son...That Clay needs to get out and find something new and fresh and just begin from the start. New Label..Island maybe in the Universal Record Company.or Sony BMG let Clive Davis helm his career. And work with producers like Rodney Jerkins, Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam, Walter Afanasieff, John Shanks...so many Great powerful musicians are out there. RLAAMJR. Posted February 28, 2009 at 09:26 AM Posted February 28, 2009 at 09:26 AM sales are really low. 2.5 million though is a bit big but the next album was too little. Hmmm.. even Celine just sold 3 million copies. Quote

stevethefan Posted March 1, 2009 at 05:29 AM Posted March 1, 2009 at 05:29 AM I'm not really surprised by this. One of my problems with AI is that everything is so instant. Instant fame. I'm not saying that the winners and some others are not talented, because most of them are but the show gives them such big exposure and to me they really have not always earned their fame. There are thousands of people out there who don't get on TV and are probably more talented working their butts off singing. On AI of course the winners get huge exposure and interest in their music in the BEGINNING, but very few seem to be able to have any lasting careers since most of the watchers of the show are more interested in seeing the latest contestants.
