Lymon Posted December 13, 2008 at 02:46 AM Posted December 13, 2008 at 02:46 AM I recently downloaded their debut album Fallen, and I seriously was blown away by how amazing this album is. The songs are so real and amazing, and I love the gothic rock feel of the band. Every instrument is perfect, every note from Amy Lee is perfect, I seriously cannot find one bad song on this album. Right now i'm downloading The Open Door, and i'm interested to see how the album is with Ben, David and others leaving. I've heard Call Me When You're Sober, and it's amazing, so I hope i'm not let down. Any fans of this band? Quote http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png
Black Kitten Posted December 13, 2008 at 06:00 AM Posted December 13, 2008 at 06:00 AM i used to really love them too. you'll be happy to know that i have their first album "Fallen" Amy Lee's an amazing vocalist. but after Fallen, i've lost my interest to them as i focused mainly on solo artists. angeluk2 Posted December 13, 2008 at 05:35 PM Posted December 13, 2008 at 05:35 PM I LOVE Fallen, not so keen on The open door though. Quote CHOCOLATE is the answer....I don't give a damn what the question was!
Lymon Posted December 13, 2008 at 08:19 PM Author Posted December 13, 2008 at 08:19 PM Ok, so I listened to The Open Door, and I have to say it sounds really different from Fallen. I don't think it's a "bad" album, but it's very different from Fallen. It sounds a little lighter to me, but there are some amazing songs(Call Me When You're Sober, Weight of the World, Cloud Nine, Lose Control). The only song I really hate is Good Enough. This song doesn't do it for me at all. I really wish Ben hadn't left, because Fallen is a true masterpiece. Quote http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png
CelineRules! Posted December 13, 2008 at 09:23 PM Posted December 13, 2008 at 09:23 PM I absolutely adored the first album.. didn't like the second one... Their sound changed a lot between those two.. Ben Moody really defined the sound of the band.. too bad he left.. The first album was a gem Quote
destin139 Posted December 14, 2008 at 12:22 AM Posted December 14, 2008 at 12:22 AM i agree - the band lost something - i cant put my finger on it - when Ben Moody left. There are a few songs on Fallen that I totally love though. I wouldnt call myself a fan as such but i like some of their stuff. Quote http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/destin139/Celine2.jpg

cdclore Posted December 22, 2008 at 01:34 AM Posted December 22, 2008 at 01:34 AM (edited) I've been a fan for several years. Their previously released album Origin was better, in my opinion, but the actual album is unavailable for purchase though the tracks can be downloaded. Amy has been my second (only to Celine) favorite artist for as long as I've known about the band, however, Evanescence is an ever-changing band. It now includes none of the original members except for Amy. What went from Amy Lee, David Hodges, and Ben Moody later led to John LeCompt, Will, and Rocky... only for Will to leave for family reasons, replaced by Terry... and then for Amy to fire John and Rocky in the previous year. There has been some speculation as to what exactly happened and from the angry words of John and Rocky, the loss of their position was completely unexpected. I will always hold a special place for Amy. It's so different to see her married now and she's currently working on a solo project that will have a little Celtic influence. I'm quite excited. Lymon Posted April 7, 2009 at 04:12 PM Author Posted April 7, 2009 at 04:12 PM Dang I want something new from this band, or at least Amy's solo project. Ben's solo album was supposed to come out on March 3rd, but now that's been delayed! Quote http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png

adoreceline Posted April 7, 2009 at 07:41 PM Posted April 7, 2009 at 07:41 PM I like Bring me to life. And I've heard Amy when she sang with Jonathan Davis. Lymon Posted April 8, 2009 at 03:19 PM Author Posted April 8, 2009 at 03:19 PM Their second album, The Open Door, has grown on me a lot since my first listen. It's really different from Fallen, less radio-friendly, but I do love the songs on it. I love both albums for different reasons. I really applaud Amy for keeping the band together after the original line-up left. Quote http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png
ce-line Posted April 8, 2009 at 10:50 PM Posted April 8, 2009 at 10:50 PM I also have their first album "Fallen" and I used to listen to it a lot. eliud82 Posted April 14, 2009 at 03:55 PM Posted April 14, 2009 at 03:55 PM I can appreciate why "The Open Door" was different from "Fallen." I don't think there's nothing wrong with that. It's called EVOLUTION. Had "THE OPEN DOOR" been similar to "FALLEN" people would've been bitching an complaining about that as well. So, I think its funny that people can't seem to make up their mind. Amy wanted to go in a different direction for obvious reason. She wanted to proof that they could do an album without Ben, and that "EVANESCENCE" had a life after Ben Moody. Amy wanted to do an album that wasn't neccesarily commercial, but that was more hard that fallen. For all intents and purposes, "FALLEN" was a pop record. One of the reasons for Ben's departure had to do with the direction. Ben was more commerical, more radio friendly stuff. There's nothing wrong with that. He wanted to follow a certain formula. Amy on the other hand, wanted to go in a more hard direction and be "Truthful" to her art and not worry so much about sales. Nothing wrong with that either. I mean look, "CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE SOBER" big hit for the band, wasn't written or produced by Ben, it's a good "Pop" song. I mean, if you look at what Ben Moody did for Anastacia and what he did for Celine, I can honestly look at that and understand why would Amy be upset and worried about the band's musical direction. I mean, he probably would've pushed for a more "POP" direction and been accused of "SELLING OUT" But, it's her attitude that really bugs me, specially after the departure of John and Rocky. I have john on my myspace and he had left a blog when it all went down implying that, they where fired, and it was all over money. Because Amy was in this "I am Evanescence" attitude and didn't want to acknowledge them as part of Evanescene and treated them as studio musicians. Amy lee should rename the band "EVANSTIEN" because the band now is made out of pieces of other bands. It's tragic. Also, "Fallen" had "Bring Me To Life," "MY Immortal," "Going Under" "Everybody's Fool" that did amazingly well on the HOT 100 and Rock charts repectevely. "My Immortal" being their biggest hit so far. But "The Open Door" had "CALL ME WHEN YOURE SOBER," "Lithium" "Sweet Sacrifice" and "Good Enough" and "CALL ME WHEN YOURE SOBER" was the only one that charted. The album didn't sell as well as "FALLEN" Did that had something to do with the change in sound and all the drama? maybe. Did it had something do to with all the ilegal downloading and leaking of the record. The album leaked a full month before the thing even went on sale on Itunes etc. Who knows that the future holds for "EVANESCENCE" but, all I can hope for is that they are still putting out good songs.
