Jay Leno To Stay on NBC

NBC has announced that when jay Leno is done with the "Tonight Show" he will in fact stay with NBC and take a

10:00PM PRIMETIME (timeslot) this is big because Jay Leno will continue telling jokes, having guests, and be on our televison screens... The Tonight Show With Conon O' Brien will then air at 11:45 like Jay airs now

 

So NBC will consist of:

 

10:00 PM - The Jay Leno Talk Show

11:00 PM- The Local News

11:45PM - The Tonight Show w/ Conon O' Brien.

 

I'm so happy that jay will stay on the air because he loves Celine and more appreances will be likely!

The Location of this new show is yet to be determined.

I love it... Yay is so much better than Conan... So he will still have more viewers.. just earlier on the night

Ya know this actually kind of makes me upset (not really that much though). I mean, the guy never can give up. Originally David Letterman was supposed to replace Johnny Carson in the early nineties but somehow Jay ended up getting it. Then they let Conan replace Jay but he STILL won't leave. I have nothing against him but he should really go onto to another network or something. Let the others take over.

Well You See NBC's highest rated show is Jays Show there was talk about him going to ABC and NBC snuggled him up before he would change networks they offered him a HUGE PAY RAISE

LOL That's funny. What's the point of switching shows? They should just give Conon O'Brien his own show and Jay just stay where he is but whatever

Well one reason I know they are doing this is money. Even though I'm sure they will be paying Jay A LOT it's actually cheaper than making new drama series (or other shows) that they usually would play in that time slot. NBC has a lot of competition and it will actually save them money buy doing this since it's a lot cheaper to run his type of show. They had promised Conan the later slot years ago so it still honors that.

Jay was interviewed saying that the new show will consist of

 

1. Opening Monologue

2. Jokes/Jay Walking Ect.

3. Guest

4. Musical Performer/Comedian/Stunter

 

This Show will be on 5 Days a Week Mon-Fri @ 10:00PM Compeating against shows like "Greys Antamy", CSI and others and will likely cancel NBC shows like "ER" and "The Office" The will mark history because its the first time a Network would air a Nightime Talkshow @ 10PM before the Local News.

Jay will start his show in fall of 09 and he retires in May 09 she only a few months off.

I actually like Conan better but I guess people will be happy since Jay is not going away but to be honest I think that in the long run it will hurt NBC.

I Disagree they will save money because five drama at the 10PM time slot canceled cost 10 Million a eposide to produce and the Jay Leno show will cost 2 Million FOR the WHOLE WEEK to produce.

They save money and Jay will bring Decent 5 Day a week ratings

I just love Jay Leno, so I'm really glad that he's staying.

I don't really watch any of these shows lately and even though I like Conan I have to admit that I can see how he would have more of a limited fan base. Jay Leno and his style of show definitely appeals to a wider audience so they will definitely not be losing any people by keeping him. If he went to another network a lot of viewers would follow him so NBC probably did the right thing for themselves.

This deal really kind of screws Conan though. The A list guests usually would go to the earlier time slot show like the Tonight show. So now Conan finally gets the earlier time slot but he STILL will have to compete with Jay since he will be on at 10 PM and the A list guests will probably want to be on the 10 pm show as opposed to 11:30pm.

Whoa, I thought that Leno was just going to keep the Tonight Show, but he's actually doing a different show? That seems quite absurd to me. Why not just keep doing the Tonight Show and move it to a different time or something?

b/c the the tonight show is made for that time and that network its like the biggest night show...nothing belongs to jay there ...its like the president 4 or 8 years and out...that show will go on forever without jay than without Conon too

I've been listening to a lot about this on the radio and one reason NBC kept is is that he was going to be able to go to any other network, and since he's been so popular it was likely that he'd bring a lot of viewers to the other network, so they did not want that to happen especially since NBC is struggling in the ratings. The other reason is something I mentioned before. Even though he is getting a lot of money to stay in the long run it's cheaper because instead of having to have five different TV shows on during the week where they'd have to pay for different sets, different writers and a lot of actors they really don't have to do much since Jay has his own writers for his show and he writes a lot of it. It comes down to $$$. In the long run five different TV shows is more expensive than just basically keeping his old show and moving it to an earlier time slot. I'm sure it will be slightly different but not that much.
