LuisMa Posted October 23, 2008 at 01:38 PM Posted October 23, 2008 at 01:38 PM I am obsessed with the music charts, and I know there are many other people who like the charts as much as I do, so I decided to create this topic with the purpose of writing some interesting chart facts and figures about Celine, à-la "Did you know that..." One very strange thing that has happened since the 80s is that songs that jump from 12 to 7 and then to number 4 never make it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. This strange rule has applied to songs like "Don't Mean Nothin'" by Richard Marx, "Giving You The Benefit" by Pebbles, and "I'll Remember" by Madonna, to name a few. In 1996, I read about this on Fred Bronson's column on Billboard, and a reader asked about Celine, who had jumped 12-7-4 with "It's All Coming Back To Me Now." As we all know by now, IACBTMN had its chance when "Macarena" by Los Del Rio was spending a 14th week on top of the Hot 100. Unfortunately, the following week, "No Diggity" by BLACKstreet jumped over Celine and completely blocked her from pole position, so the macabre 12-7-4 rule also applied to her. FTR: I asked Fred about this a couple of years ago, I as noticed "Buttons" by The Pussycat Dolls also making the move, and he replied that he had forgotten about the rule, but told me to keep an eye on the Dolls. "Buttons" also fell victim of the 12-7-4 rule. Quote
